You shouldn't be playing shooters at that age to begin with. It says so on the box.
Pfft why is he gonna be scarred for life?
no because its the law retard
also because the grown ups say nasty words and little jimmy might hear some and start saying them to look tough and manly and his mom and dad who spent money on the little retard might not like hearing him say them.

I agree with the OP. Yes, children in general are a blight upon the multiplayer scene in gaming, but that doesn't mean ALL of them are that bad.

I would be totally fine with this bs if the parents had the balls to beat there stupid kids and thats all they really need but there are such pussies that they give in to getting the little retards M rated games that they forget that 5 year olds are not meant to see someone get there bodies turned inside out. the same reason you don't let 5 year olds watch SAW its rated M for a reason

and btw there is no god if there was a just and loving god we would have died off a long time ago before the human race got this damn stupid

The sad fact is that regardless of how good I am at the game. These types of people (which represent a large percent of the online community) is the main reason why I'm very careful with who I talk to on mic.

Bloody puberty.

Tospite using a mic as young as 13,no one has EVER noted me as a "kid".

That may be because

A:My voice was rather low pitch anyway
or B:Some microphones bring out the "irish" in my accent...

On Subject,Having played games online and such when I was younger,I noticed that even though I was 13-16,I was not an idiot.

And so I asumed that not everyone my age who could find and use a microphone was an idiot.

OP does put foward a good point here, sure there are those that shout down thier mics like little, spoilt brats but im sure the majority are ok, and im sure that op is one of those that i would be happy to game with, so well said pyrosaw
You've got it the other way around. Majority shout into their mics and the minority are calm. But those put together make up a small minority of kids who play overall. 70% of people in general hide in party chat, private chat or just don't put on mics anymore. It really ruins the social experience.

In some situations I really have no issues at all, as long as the person is polite and doing their best what more could I ask of them?

In situations where say constant communication is needed to win/do well, then I often find it a lot of work to get younger people to cooperate, often as is common with youth, they become very adversarial.

Then there are more casual settings, say in a guild voice chatting with others around the same age, it becomes very awkward when a young kid joins in. You then find yourself in that situation of having to watch what you say, or not having anything in common to talk about to them, thus they tend to feel ignored.

Awkward all round, however this is very much a general view of it, I have come across younger people who understand most of this, do their best to fit in, and who are usualy more mature than the people twice their age.

My major problem is if the game is M-rated why are you playing it, and why are your parents letting you? I don't mind children in T games or E games, but when I play an M game I'm expecting to be playing with people closer to my age (20).

In reality I don't mind, but I do get annoyed easily.
Because age =/= maturity.
I also expect to play an 18+ rated game for people older than 18, but when there's a kid on it I don't get annoyed unless trash talk is involved.

*sigh* i agree with the other people(the people that stated you should have a mature mindset for these games) and i fall into the group of said mature(or so ive been told ^^" not being cocky or anything) but yes i do think sometimes the parents should think a little more about their child before buying it, they should buy it if they think they are mature enough not to get them to shut up so they can work. sorry if i have offended anyone ^^ its just a little annoyance ive found

It refers to maturity. It means the average maturity of a _____ Year old. Sadly, they are referring to the average ______ Year old, and not the ones online.
Because nothing says "maturity" like a gorefest with scantily-clad women...
This. That being said if I was the parent of a 12 year old or younger I would try to spend most my time trying to instill aspects of social responsibility, and I don't think a I'd want my kid exposed to teabaggers and homophobia in 'mature' games like Halo 3 and it's community .... if the Halo 2 community was anything to go by.

Call me a 'fool' but I'd like to protect my child (as much as possible, can't be a hawk in the school) from that so that by the time he/she creates a proper identity for themselves they won't be like sheep and think spewing hateful diatribe is how one should behave.

I might not beable to protect my child from that (in the schoolyard), but I can certainly do so by not buying games that may incite (or have online populations that exhibit) homophobia, sexism and pure idiocy.

I have no clue if your agreeing with me or not. True, age =/= maturity. My main point is that I'm not sure why people younger than the suggested play the games they do. It brings me to wonder what is going on with the world, and the question "did I miss something?" Admittedly the US really needs a 15+ rating for games that really shouldn't be in the M-rating.

To reiterate my point, I don't mind young gamers, I just like to have some time with people I know are adults.
