I'm an American, how can I get my hands on British chocolate?

Not knowing where in the US you live, I can't give specifics, but your fastest (though possibly not cheapest) bet is likely to find a local import store. You most often find them in areas with a large matching population base- here in Chicago, for example, the two most common (import) store types you'll find are Irish and Polish. Bear in mind that Irish stores often sell things from the UK- and vice versa. That was how I found a local retailer who sold Club Rock Shandy, an orange-lemon soda that I'm pretty sure is liked by only one person in North America. Good luck!

Also, to forestall possible confusion: when Europeans say "continental", they often mean "mainland". Fix that in your mind going forward and it'll make many things clearer.

That's not true.

They were always disgusting! :3
I always knew you were a terrible person, Colour, this just confirms it =P

As for the OP, while I don't have any specific websites or stores, I do know that there are plenty of places that specialise in importing UK food and the like.

Oh, and while it's not "candy", I do recommend importing some Irn Bru.

I'm glad at least one person appreciates the Club Orange range. :3

My Mam used to hate when I ordered that in restaurants or pubs as a kid because they never had it, so she had to pay for an Orange and a Lemon and they'd mix them together.

Typing randomly into Google, I found this American site

Although I would question how could it be better? Maybe their cheap chocolate doesn't use "fake" chocolate like our chocolate here (that's why they would call it so much better) in 'Merica but how can actual chocolate candy here taste worse than actual chocolate in the UK? Are you sure you're just not buying shitty chocolates in 'Merica?
Too bad the gamer girls can't enjoy a nice Yorkie bar. What the hell, you limey misogynists!

Huh, Milk Tray. Going to have to assume a tray of some sort of milk chocolate pieces and not a icecube tray full of milk. Going to have to file this under British'isms along with spotted dick.

Down the street from me there is a little fish and chips shop that has several imported English food items including candies. The largest selection of chocolate they have seems to be Cadbury though I imagine it is probably, as noted in an earlier post, not the same stuff you see labeled as "Cadbury" around here.

I have also been told that there is a 7-11 (of all places) in my city that sells various imported goods including blood puddings and the like. Even if there is not a specifically "English" shop in your area you might be able to find a franchise of a major chain shop that sells imported goods to cater to local expats or what have you.

Some grocery stores have an 'International section' you can find British stuff there. Usually its more gummy's than chocolate.

I was in New York for a few weeks years ago and when we were in the airport on the way home, I had a serious chocolate craving. I saw a Cadbury's Dairy Milk and thought "Jackpot!"

It turned out to be the same texture and taste of American chocolate.

I felt so betrayed. D:
Yeah, I think our solution to everything is "add more sugar" plus less flavor.

Did you go to any fast food places while you were here? I wonder if the soda sizes here are simply huge compared to the rest of the world. A 'small' soda today was considered 'large' 20 years ago.
When I visited the US I ate in and out and it blows every other place right out of the water.

Wispas are good as long as they've been in the fridge or freezer!

The caramel in Wispa Gold ruins the purity of the original Wispa. :D

I'm actually not a big chocolate person at all to be honest, carbs for life!

There's American chocolate and then there's American chocolate. Nestle chocolate is hard to believe there's chocolate in it, Hersheys is better but not likely to win any awards. But... Ghirardelli? American as apple pie and makes some very good chocolates. (And if you can find one of their ice cream parlors, their chocolate malt shake is the best shake I've ever had.) More on the candies end, Godiva seems to have America's only decent dipping chocolate (if you're going to have a chocolate covered strawberry, get a Godiva one, nevermind the price), and makes some fantastic caramels and truffles as well.

Lindt is also widely available here and very good (Swiss, if you care). If it's chocolate you crave then you'll probably prefer their bars to their more-commonly-seen truffles.

Oh yeah, In and Out, Carl's Jr., Five Guys, those places are all incredible. I'm just sorry Colour Scientist ended up going to McDonald's of all places while she was here.

I went to a Five Guys in Nottingham and it was pretty awesome!

I think my arteries are still recovering.

Some people need to come experience the Awful Awful at the Nugget here in Reno. As chain hamburgers tend to be not very good in general. Even Carl's Junior/Hardee's, In and Out, Five Guys, and Fat Burger, are still a more bog standard experience than any place's local take.

OT: For British goodies you really need to go looking for your local international markets. What's strange is finding British food stuff at Asian Markets. Makes me go: Did the British Isles migrate to hang out with Japan?

Dammit, I only left the place in December and already the place is falling apart without me :p
