I was grounded for getting a low mark on a test I had. My mark was only 68% and I was grounded for that, (basically no video games for the weekend). But still, I hate that it was expected of me to always have really high marks. Kids in my grade would get new toys or games for doing well of their tests and maybe a "try harder next time" if they failed. Whereas I had to keep my marks really high and was punished for being below average.

I've never been grounded in my life, my parents treated my like a human being and as a result I never did anything worth being grounded for anyway.

The only thing I can think of that's close to being relevant to this topic would be that I spent most of my school life in detention because the teachers were too lazy to single out which students were actually misbehaving and just kept the entire class behind.

Something about how they wouldn't do it anymore after their friends got angry at them for making them have to stay late. Their friends thought it was hilarious and it just gave them all more of an excuse to do it again in the next class. Rinse and repeat basically every day for 7 years.
That's why I hated high school and found a way out of it early. If the teacher's presence alone doesn't command respect, being an asshole won't help anything. New teachers were the worst. I was always happy when I had some veteran of the system who knew how to control the animals.

I've only been grounded once. My parents realised how futile it was after I got up at 5 AM, climbed over the fence, got on a tram and went out before they realised I'd gone.

I don't really remember what it was for. I think my parents attempted to punish me into having a life when I was 10. It worked, because I did go out, but it did seem pretty stupid and redundant. Nowadays they tell me not to go out so much. Funny how things have changed.
Right? Like 3-4 years ago my parents gave me this crap about how I should go out and do stuff, but now they're always pissed because I'm "almost never home"

Never got grounded, my parents and grandparents firmly believed in spanking. Paddling was still allowed in schools when I was young. I got my fair share of those when I was a kid and I turned out ok. It really seems these days parents are afraid to discipline their kids. I'm not saying they need to be beaten, but they certainly need to be taught that actions have consequences.

Never got grounded, never known anyone to get grounded. Only learned about it from TV.

I never got "grounded" as a child.

I guess there's not much culture for grounding where I live.
Same. It seems like more of a US thing. I was put in timeout a few times, but not for anything I can remember, so the reasons were probably fine.

I was never grounded...

Grounding kids is a joke... Punishment by isolation is not a good way to raise a child...

A buddy and me set fire to a forest. Intentionally. We were 5 though so didn't really think it through. And it was a small forest, as far as forests go..

Think that got me a month, as well as being the only time I got grounded. Yay mis-behaving me :p

I never got grounded. When I turned 5, I led a successful revolution against my parents, giving the power to the proletariat of the house: me.

Wait, that might not be what happened... I was pretty well behaved, though. I think I got things taken away if I was bad.

I only got grounded once for losing my glasses. I felt that it wasn't fair, since I went to the lost and found before my mother found out and I got 'em back.
Three days felt a little harsh for telling her the truth.

I never really got grounded for much. We had other ways of dealing with issues. However, my girlfriend recently got grounded for asking her father to go to the store to buy some bread.
She lives alone with her father and is usually the one that does the shopping, the cleaning and the cooking (Besides getting good grades and trying to uphold some social life). While studying for a test she asked her father if he could go to the store and buy some bread, he said no because he rather wanted to watch soccer and drink beer like he always does. She says she has to study and is hungry, and it's raining, he says no and throwing this back and forth a little she's grounded for a week, she says it's stupid and is grounded for two weeks. She gets mad and slams the door to her room shut and gets three weeks of grounding, which if expanded to a month if she doesn't stay at home.
