Is that the Yellow element? or something else?
I think it's Phalanx. A space-parasite/bug wich feeds on fear and produces the yellow lantern-light that has similar properties to the green lantern-light. In the comics it possessed Hal Jordan and made him go evil and try to destroy the green lanterns.
I'm kinda suprised that they would consider putting Phalanx in the first movie, but at the same time I kinda get it.
Don't you mean Parallax? Its the embodiment of fear (which produces the yellow light deadly to the green lanterns power of will). He's kinda the biggest enemy of the GL corps, it would be wrong to not put him into the film, I thought that was already confirmed. It'll also set up Sinestro turning so he can form the Sinestro corps in the next film, plus I think Star Sapphire is getting set up to be in it to.

Then they'll try and make sense of Blackest Night in a third one and mess it all up:) Could be good if they do it right, or am I thinking ahead too far?
According to my understanding Parallax came in much later stage of the Green Lantern story. I may be wrong or the movie may take its' own unique storyline.

Y that's the one. Always mix up names like that and I'm not ashamed of admitting it considering the oceans of weird names in comicbook-continuity. I don't know if it's confirmed or not (don't read much movie-news) but it seems really likely to be parralax considering it used yellow light.

Looks spectacularly awesome and will definetly be going to see it. But i can't stand the guy who plays Hal Jordan, there's just something about him that ruffles my jimmy's.
Watch Smokin Aces, it will change your mind a bit, he plays a good serious role and the movie is great.

Poor Peter Sarsgaard.

His subtle shitbag-looking face always results in him being cast as the bad guy.

Still not really impressed. Everything looks funny, and I think they will need to spend too much time worldbuilding.

Not too hot on the GL mythos, what was that thing that killed Abin Sur and later invaded Earth? I thought it could be Parrallax but he's made of yellow fear energy, not fire and smoke
I think it is Parrallax, could be wrong, but I believe this is a re-imagining of the aesthetics to make it seem more terrifying. If you noticed the attack that hit Abin sur was very much yellow. The rolling smokes is probably more for a dramatic visual effect.

It doesn't look half bad either... I'd accept it if this is parrallax.

I never liked green lantern much, and it looks odd, his suite seems to be entirely CGI, but this trailer has me interested, i may just see this movie and hopefully the corniest thing in it will be that mask.

Idk though green lantern always reminded me of superman, a being with such great power, limited only by his or her imagination. What could be more boring than that? Who could stand up to that? Who could challenge someone with that kind of power? How can there be conflict basically against something so strong. On top of that it's easy to get really predictable in what you create with the ring, like you need to engage a target at a distance? how bout a gun? though the ring can just shoot energy as it is but why not make a gun anyways? What would be entertaining is watching someone with a very abstract way of seeing the world use the ring. I'd have fun seeing all the creative uses someone could come up with that the rest of us would have never considered.

I think it all boils down to the rules though, "heres a ring, you can create anything you could imagine with it, use it to fight evil." but the thing is that it's just so easy to pick the same thing to solve every problem, kinda like scribblenauts, and it makes since to use the same thing too, you know how it works, you won't have the problem of predicting the result of using something different. It just all depends on how it's done, if the writers can find a way to force the green lantern to be creative to solve his problems then this could be a very entertaining movie, if not it'll be extremely boring.

But like i said, the trailer gave me hope, but not actually much to go on. But i still want to see what they came up with.

Yeah, Ryan has surprised me in a few of his recent roles. He's really spreading out. He has a notable presences that would make it hard for people familiar with "2 guys a girl and pizza place" to take him seriously as their favourite (or one of) superhero.

But thats a flaw on the viewers part, he's quite good in the roles he plays. It's like Ewan McGregor and his role in trainspotting. I'd be the first to admit that I struggled to separate that image of him in his later movies (it's a funny conflict of perspective in star wars at least).

It would appear sinestro is going to be in his pre-betrayal glory. Neat.

Green Latern isn't Marvel...
I think he meant "from anything".

Really? I've only seen him in Shattered Glass and Jarhead. I suppose he's the perceived as the dick in Shattered Glass for a bit.

OT: Ryan Reynolds' acting seems a little... hammy. And that oath is ridiculous(ly cheesy).

Prefer the look of Thor myself.

Well count me as interested. If the reviews won't be horrible then I'll go and watch it. Haven't seen a superhero movie in a while, i suppose.
And the trailer did look nice, though the mask was a bit weird.
Still looking forward to it.

I think the second oath (where he yells out "LIGHT!") at the end should have been the only one in the trailer. Having him say the whole thing twice kind of diminished the impact.

Hal Jordan's suit is still unfinished, that's why it looks pretty horrible. The rest looks great to me. Can't wait.

My mate pointed out that Parallax looks like a Balrog
I'm worried that they're gonna try to stuff to much into this movie, Spider-Man 3 style. It's got Hector Hammond and Parallax; it might also have Sinestro's banishment and his switch to evil as well. I don't know how they've managed to fit Parallax into the first Green Lantern movie but we'll how it pans out
Oa looks fantastic, as do all the lanters, especially Abin Sur. As the article said, Jordan's costume does look very iffy compared to the rest of the lanterns so I hope they fix that
Jordan is more serious in this which is awesome 'cause in the original trailer he was behaving more like Kyle Rayner (the second lantern of Earth)
All in all I am a very happy bunny and have high expectations for this film!

EDIT:

I think you mean Parallax, he's the embodiment of fear (yellow energy) which takes control of Hal. As I said above, he totally looks like a Balrog in the trailer. He looks much more bad-ass in the newer comics. I hope they haven't just made Parallax a mindless creature which just consumes everything

Feel that? Goosebumps. Yeah it hits all the cliche buttons when it comes to trailers, and it repeats the oath twice. But it is a good oath, I respect that.

Looks awesome. I'm glad they are focusing on the Green Lantern as an intergalactic org. instead of Green Lantern as some guy flying around earth. I think the larger scope will make it much, much more interesting and different from other super hero movies.

Don't know much about GL comics so here is a question for you Lantern fans:

So in the first scene the injured alien Green Lantern escapes in a space ship and crash lands on Earth where Hal Jordan takes over the Lantern duties. A few scenes later Hal is being whisked away to the Green Lantern home world via the ring. So, why did the first injured alien have to use an escape pod/ ship to travel to Earth? Why didn't the ring fly him to Earth?
