its pretty much the same as a WoW player loosing alot of Epic lewt.
Nyeeh not exactly. There's no such thing like "soulbound" items as far as ship equipment goes.
It'd take some time to farm the sort of items he lost, but there's always people who are selling them.

These stories remind me of the pimped out cars some people apparently drive in the US.

Do you honestly think no one's going to steal that jewelry off the back of your car when you leave it on the street for an hour?
Having nice things is great. I love having nice things. But when it shows that I'm walking around with 500 euros worth of stuff on my person, I'd get paranoid every time I come close to a crowded place. Think about it, how much does some of the tech you take with you on the street cost?
Not saying I'm dragging a fortune with me every day, but I know people who do, and I'm absolutely certain there are people who have a lot more expensive stuff on them.

Sorry, I went off on a personal tangent there. Anyway, message seems pretty clear: If you can't be assured of the safety of your valuables -like every time you're out of the house with them-, be very careful, or just don't do it. I know real life mugging isn't prevalent everywhere, but hardly anyone would have a problem with it on the internet, or so it would seem.

That said, reading stories like this puts a smile on my face. They remind me why I don't play MMORPGs.

I love the idea of this game more and more. Now to find out what it actually IS, and whether my piece-of-crap laptop can run it (I'm guessing no).

Wow, I bet that guy got so butt-hurt that he raged his way through a whole box of hotpockets for consolement.
I bet he did. Then he created the most expensive box of hot pockets ever. And stored it on his welcome mat in front of his front door with a "steal me" sign on it.

That box was gold plated and vanilla scented!!

It almost certainly can. EVE's system requirements are pretty low.

Isn't their insurance in that game? How much of that will he get back? I'm assuming he would have the best insurance available for such a high value ship...

Ah, good old Eve. I almost miss my days of playing it, almost.

Also, for those of you that want to play it, here are a few basic rules to keep in mind.
-Eve is a purely captitalist enviroment, act accordingly.
-Work with others as offen as possible.
-Join a corp ASAP.
-Watch who you piss off, the long term players/corps have tons of power ingame.

You got to love stuff like this, i would have loved a hardcore PVP server in WoW that you could loot the dead bodies of other players.

Actually they are going up a little soon due to changes to character appearance patching in preparation for Incarna aka full avatar station walking. Then again all they require is video card that supports ShaderModel 3.0. You need really ancient videocard to not have it.

He probably just earned the credits in game and lost no real money.
I hope.
You don't actually lose real money like that. It's impossible to buy in-game currency (legally) with real money, so all he would have lost is enough ISK for several years of game time (which he probably had elsewhere anyway).
