Contrary to what everyone is saying, the victim was quite cool about it. As a long term missioner he has money to burn and would have been able to keep on playing without any trouble.

Now as for the Suicide Gankers, they are tosspots. (Not shown in any of the links here or on massively, but) they spent quite some time smack-talking about how awesome their kill was and how much their victim sucked. Even after the victim congratulated them the kept going, both in game and on their personal killboard. Real mature.

Also, this is month-old news.

Wow, I bet that guy got so butt-hurt that he raged his way through a whole box of hotpockets for consolement.
Oh... just imagine the poop he took an hour later...

I'm kinda curious about EVE, but I'm not sure if the ships in the game have stealth capabilities, and since stealthy types are the only thing I play as...Yeah. I'd so wanna be a spy-type ship, able to vanish off all sensors at a moment's notice, be able to sneak around, possibly plant mines while I'm sneaking behind enemy lines, things like that.

I wanna be the ship your mothers warned you about.

This is why EVE fascinates me. It seems like an actual space-pirate MMO, and that is goddamned awesome. As for the guy, sucks. I guess don't drive your bling-wagon around if it can't put up a fight.

"You mad, bro? You mad?"
Oh how I would have loved to write that unironically for once in my life...

EVE actually sounds pretty sweet like that. Maybe I ought to check it out, even if it is just as a substitute for real space sims.

There are just no words to appropriately articulate what this guy must be feeling. People like to casually throw around "rape" as a term explaining when one player dominates another in competition or combat, so I suppose "premeditated gang rape" is as close as it'll get. With the kind of scratch he put into this super-ship, why not hire out some kind of security (or does it not work that way with this game?)?

People are dicks, so I can't say this was deserved, but if nothing else it seems he should have known better.

Looks like someone forgot the number one rule of EVE: Don't fly what you can't afford to lose. That's also rules #2-9.

People on this thread need to learn to read. The guys not remotely mad about it.

Seems kind of stupid for a suicide attack like that though.

I was on one of the most cutthroat PVP muds in existence back in the day, maybe this will bring back some of the same thrill

I love the corporations names. I can imagine a HUD notifying him:

Code:
Honorless Internet Jerks Are Attacking
Suddenly Ninjas Are Attacking

You don't actually lose real money like that. It's impossible to buy in-game currency (legally) with real money, so all he would have lost is enough ISK for several years of game time (which he probably had elsewhere anyway).
While this particular person probably did earn his ISK in-game, you totally _CAN_ purchase ISK (the in-game cash) in ways completely allowed by the EULA, but indirectly.
Allowed : RL cash => Game Time Code (or Pilot License EXtension) <=> ISK
Forbidden : RL cash RL cash.

Basically person X pays for gametime, but gives that gametime to person Y, and person Y gives person X some ISK.
That's actually how about 20%-25% of the game's population plays the game "for free" (as in, paying no RL cash, but paying in time spent in-game making ISK).
It's a pretty nifty system that allows a lot of players that would otherwise not be able to pay to play the game, while it exerts a nasty pressure on RMT operations, and CCP (the game makers) get paid either way. I'd call that a win-win situation.

Of course, people that sell GTC/PLEX for ISK tend to be pretty inexperienced (since most of the people with experience can easily make ISK galore, but exceptions exist, of course), and those people in turn purchase high-skilled characters and expensive gear thinking that would put them on even footing with somebody with a lot of player (not character) experience (when it's usually the other way around), then losing it all in a blaze of n00bishness.
Those types of killmails are always hilarious to read (you can usually tell by what modules they used, extremely expensive but the "wrong" types), and if the wannabe-1337-n00b starts complaining on the forums about how he should not have died, the tears are bitter-sweet and especially delicious.

What was that, Ensign Murphy?
-Anything that can go wrong, will, Captain.
Dammit...
*chain of explosion obliterating $1200 in-game item*

Anyways, did anyone else notice some of those corps' names? I half suspect some of them to just dump the loot and laugh.

Oh, EVE. You never cease to provide me with reasons to laugh. I'll never play it, but darned if I can't enjoy it as a spectator sport.

Things like this are what made UO and Eve great. It's why I couldn't stand WoW and other MMOs. "What do you mean you don't drop everything on you when you die? Lame."

It adds a thrill to pvp that just isn't there in other mmos where you know there's nothing lost by dying.

I wonder what yathzee would have said if he got a chance to experience these things during his review.
