2. Consent to WE OWNZ YOOZ.

You agree that EA may do you raw, no lube, and absolutely no pillow biting allowed. IF YOU DO NOT WANT EA TO DO THIS, PLEASE DO NOT GET INTO BED WITH THEM. We reserve the right to record and store the experience and upload to the internets so we can make moar money.

Um, gee, thanks for letting us know.
uuuh thanks for translating that for me : D
in other related news: piracy is stronger and more welcome than ever.

Get the console version of BF3
Oh dear god no. Not for an FPS.
What? It's not like FPS's are unplayable on a console controller, and there are certain benefits to using one. Why are so many people opposed to the idea of playing an FPS without a mouse?
Sorry, it's something that annoys me, but I agree with everything else in your post, so... carry on...

As I said in the other thread, I was on the wall with Origin, wasn't gonna get it right away because I wasn't sure whether they could be trusted.

Looks like I was right in my concern, this pleases my ego at the same time as it disgusts me.

So they can just ...look at what's on your PC because they say so. And they're making it mandatory to install the program with some games. What the fuck is EA doing?

But that's only your account info that you decided to enter in. I would assume that entering details into account would automatically equal sharing it with said company. Not your personal computer data with private family photos and whatever else that you don't want to share.
True, but that's, as they say, "just the start".
I don't think this back and forth really matters to be honest. We both agree that it's shit and should not be allowed.
Nah, I'm not trying to argue with you, just providing a framework so that our friends from Reddit etc. can pick up and run off to their lawyer friends with. :)

Working for a big company I do understand how they have to introduce certain restrictions on what can be done just to stop people abusing the law, but I think that EULAs in general go beyond that and abuse the law themselves.

It still boggles the mind as to how this much of an invasion of privacy can be legal.
Technically speaking (and mind that in no way am I defending EA), there is no right to privacy. The closest thing is right to property. People can't just storm into your house or else you can have them arrested, but it isn't for invading your privacy, it's because they're invading your property. I mean, if you had a right to privacy, for example, then you could legally smoke weed. After-all, you're in the privacy of your own home when you do it; except that you don't have a right to privacy, simply the right to tell the cops to take a hike if they don't have a warrant.

But EA is still over-stepping their bounds, because while we may not have a right to privacy, we certainly have a right to say "No" to anyone trying to invade said privacy.

This is exactly the sort of action Anonymous should be destroying EA over.

Good luck, I say.

It's funny, I work for a big company too. I bet you'd be blown away by how few restrictions we have on our jobs xD

EDIT: Haven't seen this in a while, Kross! Feed the hamsters!

We're sorry but the current forum traffic is overloading the thread display hamsters. Your posts and votes will still be recorded, but may not be immediately visible. Please do not spam the thread in an effort to view it, it will only make things slower. In the meantime, consider the walrus.

Did you know we have an IRC Channel? Did you know an IRC Channel is a place where you can complain about the forums being down to each other in real time? It's like space but with less stars and more @ signs. And less space. So check it out, it'll be pretty neat: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/chat/

I am soooooo not impressed by any of this. I have trouble believing this is legal let alone being practiced.
I will not buy Mass Effect 3 if I have to put this abomination on my p.c.
NO WAY.
Please, just make nice with Valve and I'll forget this whole thing ever happened.

EDIT - Does anyone else notice a slight resemblance to Blender in the Origins logo?

So I wanted to see if EA's forums exploded with rage on the matter, and I came across this. Apparently you can choose to opt in/out if you want just like with Valve and Steam.

"There is an option to opt out.

If you go to http://profile.ea.com and login, scroll down to the bottom of the page where it has your billing/shipping information.

Right above this section is the "Contact Options". The first option is to be contacted by EA regarding products & news. The second option is "Share my information with select EA partners". Click on "Update Contact Options" and you can opt-out of the EA Partners section.

EA_AgentX"

http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/7489278.page

Still, the EULA is cause for concern.

So I who have already downloaded Origin to play the alpha is pretty much fucked?

Ea has some pretty interesting business models. They make the PC version the best version by a long shot and then they do everything in their might to piss of the customers and destroy their new download service before it's even out of the betaphase.

Ah fuck it, I never thought I'd say this but I'm pre-ordering Modern Warfare 3 instead of Battlefield 3. Player run dedicated servers and steam is enough to make up for a shitty game, even if it's just to prove a point.
Uh, Infinity Ward stripped away the dedicated servers from MW3 again.
Can't find any internet uproar on the matter so I'll satisfy myself with a "source or it did not happen". For the time being I'll make do with the original post saying dedicated servers for MW3. [http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-08-17-modern-warfare-3-gets-dedicated-servers]

You know what I don't understand? If you want to make a lot of money and don't care about being ethical about it, why not just sell tobacco?

Meh, I'm buying anyway, I don't care what they find out about me, if they'd ask I'd tell them anyway.
How many sexual Partners have you had?

Are you homosexuell, heterosexuell, Bisexuell or perhaps Asexuell?

What do you prefer, dogs or cats?

What is your Pin Number?

What is the Login Data for your PayPal/Ebay/Amazon/Steam Account?

What is the Login Data for your Forum Account on the Escapist?

Why on earth is this such a non-issue for you? *facepalm*

Oh and keep in mind, as with a installed Origin, you have no choice to answer these or not.
None, I'm a virgin and probably will be for along time. Heterosexual. I'm indifferent really. I don't have a credit card. No idea for the steam one, would be nice for them to tell me if they find out =D. And I'd like to know why they'd care about the escapist. This is a non-issue because if someone asks me something, I'd tell them. I have no care about what people think of me, I'm not embarrassed or insecure about anything I do. Besides, EA are just dicks, not thieves. And I can already hear the "what about project 10$ hurr hurr hurr" (not from you necessarily, just from the internet). So yeah, I'm fairly indifferent about this.

I think someone has already said something along the lines of what I'm going to say, but every time I see a trailer for BF3 I think "OOO DO WANT!", but every time I see something about it here I think "What?! I'm not buying that!"
