Invisible Tank Appears at London Arms Fair

Later in the day, that particular contractor was approached by a representative of Cobra.

EDIT: I'm trying to see exactly what the purpose is of this- because although it becomes invisible (infravisibly), I do not know how well it masks the exhaust, so it may not be effective at confusing guidance systems. The best I can guess is that it is for stealth, so at night it doesn't glow like mad.

Too bad fungal growth will de-cloak it :p

On topic: this is really cool technology though it does seem like it will have limited use for now. As others have said, most of the "bad guys" right now can't even afford heat/IR sensors, so against them it's a bit redundant.
My guess is it's mainly for tank vs tank battles, which in a war against other countries would be pretty powerful.

Oh and hi to everyone, this is my first post :)
Hello!
Anyways, the point of a Military Contractor is to build the most expensive, attractive machinery for nations to buy. The idea is that the better you are prepared, the better you will do. Why is the USA investing billions into defense when we already have a huge technical edge over the vast majority of nations? Because Russia and China keep showing pictures of their stupidly-expensive stealth-vehicles. Anyways, it's just in hopes that it will sell to some salivating tech-nut army somewhere.

But... wait, we never really take on anyone with any large amount of high-tech equipment? Since this is invisible only to such things like heat sensors and other such devices that any of our enemies could never hope to afford, doesn't this make this particular gadget rather redundant? Who the hell are we meant to employ it against?
But you never know who your future enemies are going to be.

wait so we have forcefields, nanotechnology and invisible tanks now?

kinda makes Back to the Future seem bland and redundant...
Not only that, but I think we can all agree that everybody having access to exceptionally fast hover-cars is a bad idea.

But an invisible tank doesn't seem all that impressive when Japanese have nearly perfected invisibility cloaks that weigh about as much as cotton ...

The Japanese were the first but their cloak is less advanced, there was one in development in the US based on similar tech (material wise) which is said could render a tank invisible to the naked eye... couple this with thermal invisibility and you get a first strike capability as well as possible immunity overall to conventional enemy weapons (they'd have to be relatively close to see you firing ergo with both systems in play a tank wouldn't need all that much armor).

Now all we need to teach tanks is how to crouch behind cover and have regenerating health.

Yeah, but I can't imagine the enemy would wait for your army to set up the cameras and projectors needed for that kind of "invisibility" to work.

Dear Santa...
Seriously, that's pretty fucking impressive. If the Taliban used night-vision, we'd have them beat within a month.
Haha this is such a great response! I love it

But you know what this thing doesn't work against? regular vision.
Yeah but most of planes, copters tanks and other guidance system use infrared vision instead of normal cameras, since they require way more data to sent and processed compared to their black and white cousins.

True it doesn't work against naked eye, but if there is a dark night or good amount of visual obstacles you can't rally see the tank. But Infrared can, but now it can't.

The Americans, will help to stop freindly fire next time we invade a small country in the middle east.

Developed in Sweden you say?

It's time to steal an invisible tank!

Though as it has been pointed out before the use for this is kind of limited at the moment.

Sweet... even on Tank 1:1 Combat this thing would be only usefull at Night.. one hit on this thing and you will have quite some costs at repairing, and once you start the engine all Camo effect is gone, since it is just irritating head and infrared vision optics.

Dear Gods, digging a tank into the ground is more effetive then this. And less expensive.
Even better, shrapnel damage from an artillery barrage might knock out the panels too, even without direct hits. Or an IED tears the whole coat off. Or somebody with a 7.62mm(any nationality) gun could plink at it for a bit.

And then there's our good friends "radar" and "guy with binoculars" or even "not looking at it from exactly the right angle and thus seeing a suspicious lump of gray in the middle of nowhere that might blend into the rock face a few hundred meters to the side".

This is nothing but a cheap attention grab with little actual use.

Why does the name BAE remind me of something from Armored Core?
The name "Balena" springs to my mind.
I'm also reminded of GAE, BFF, and a few others from the recent ones. All they need to do now is build some MT's and Normals and were screwed xD
