You know what annoyed me about that trailer?

It wasn't the scantily clad nuns.

It wasn't the fetishistic take on violence.

It wasn't the lack of context.

It wasn't the lack of back story.

It wasn't the violence toward women.

...I'm just sick of enemies being so god damned stupid, ineffective, and not realistic in their decision making in any given situation. Basically Stormtrooper syndrome.

What the hell is so hard about plinking the bald bastard in the head from across the street? Or that grenade launcher? How do you fuck up a grenade launcher!? And who goes into a melee with an established melee expert who, up until this point, has butchered every other person who's tried that approach?

I demand realistic plots and characters with realistic limitations! Also, pie! And a shrubbery!

Here i think you hit the spot, you see in a game you play the role of whatever the game is supossed to be, GTA? you play the role of a thug who goes around and do whatever you want him to do, super mario? a plumber looking for a princess collecting doodas, link? the role of an epic hero, dragon age? be what you want be a hero an ass an merc..... you get what i mean? you can play roles in videogames, there are also some movies i stated before ( just some that came to my mind) in cich characters can be a A**holes if they want, only difference? video games are more interactive.

Theres no room for that kind of stuff today in other media, whach tv, movies, comics, ect...... everything is censored to be more "political correct" with some little exceptions, and at least for me it seems thats the way the video games are taking and it pisses the hell out of me, after all i stated before IT'S A VIDEOGAME, it's not supposed to be played by kids thats the esrb thingie for, videogames its the last bastion were anyone can be whatever he/she wants to be, the best thing its fiction a videogame ! and you dont have to be like that in real life !!! cool right?!.

So if theres harlots as you said before in a media the writers/devolpers/whatever considered you a stupid teenage boy?? really?? because of boobies?, have you tought its maybe part of the atmosphere where the story takes place?, like crime cartels, clones, exagerated fights ect???.

If people gets offended just dont buy the game, rant if you want but thats it, but if the game it's altered because someone got offended ummm what about the rest of the comunity that bought the previous games, and that is used to that kind of atmosphere?? they wont get the game as it was intended.

Lastly no one in this thread said that hates women ._. where did that came from really?, if a bald clone takes out women in a violent fight in wich btw he also got his ass beaten, then is hate agains woman, but hey ._. aren't usually mot "bad guys" men? is that hate towards men as a genre?, heck i dont know if theres a group of women that comes to kick your ass with a rocket launcher included you're not going to defend yourself? the game industry objetify men 2 you know?, must players dont look like kratos, dante ect, nope most men arent super spies, or modified clones, time travelers and all that crap we see in videogames , but its ok its fiction you see?.

I am curious why there is controversy regarding the trailer in the first place. The nun hit squad were dressed in skimpy outfits, which I can understand and buy as a diversionary tactic or some form of psychological warfare. The entire crew was dressed that way, showing some sort of gang unity and they were all trying to kill 47. He dispatches the squad in a cold and business like manner, he never goes out of his way to brutalize the women in any manner beyond what was needed to finish the job.

He never leered over the women, he never touched them in any different a way then he would have touched a man to kill them, and after they were dead, he paid them respect, gave them their last rights and left. I am not seeing an issue here. If it is the sexy outfits, that might be one thing, and as mentioned before, that could be a gang thing and if it is about the gang being a bunch of hot women, I think people just need to calm down and deal with it. They were killers, they were doing a job and they lost to a better killer.

Gaming has even less realistic characters in them than movies.

And enough about 'political correctness.' For starters, journalism is suppose to be politically correct. Their professionals, they should act it and write accordingly.

Next, asking the medium and its creators to grow the fuck up and recognize that its the 21st century is not demanding 'political correctness.'

Thirdly, no, no one is demanding that man in games become drooling fuckheads. We just want less harlets in it. Is that too much to ask? Oh, apparently it is: asking for a medium to grow up and stop it with the blatant sexism because it thinks we are all stupid teenage boys who have never touched a woman before (and that is the on;y demography this serves) is 'politically correct' and therefore 'bullshit.'

I always assume that anyone who complains about political correctness is a troll who thinks being nice to people is bullshit. I don't care if this get me reported to the mods, I'm not going to stand for it! I want to know why the gaming community hate women so much, and want to defend the right to objectify them. I want to know why racism in a game is just trivial. Is it because we have become a den for anti-social asshats: that the gaming community is their last bastion to be shitheads?
Gaming is in a very awkward state. It demands to be taken seriously yet does very little to warrant such privileges. I would are say the most mature gaming companies are people like Atlus with the Persona series and Nintendo who just want to bring smiles to people via their family-friendly franchises. Gaming is making baby steps towards maturity, but needs to shed it bullshit insecurities before it gets there.

I was gonna write a huge paragraph but instead I'll just reply to you.

Work on your damn grammar, dude.

We all know videogames are an interactive medium. It doesn't give games a free pass on all the etiquette other media has to burden. It's reasonable etiquette, and it's the kind of etiquette that has helped other new media rise above distraction status to art form status.

"It's a videogame" and "the people who play videogames aren't supposed to play videogames" are not valid points. We all know that nobody gives a fuck about ESRB. We also know that the contingent of M+ rated games has skyrocketed over the last half of a decade, and the age of people buying them has probably lowered. So when you say "oh those games are M+ rated", it's an utterly empty and worthless statement because that's not how rating works and that's not how censorship works.

The disconnect between real life and videogames is also not something on debate here. You're trying to go for the right thing, but the word you're looking for is context. Context is the thing that makes a child rape murder scene more than a child rape murder scene. Context is what ironically shields The Witcher 2 from all these accusations in the face of its sexism and racism. Context is what more games need in order to be taken seriously and most importantly be shielded from this misguided and sensationalist dumbshit that's being thrown at them and that takes attention away from many significantly more serious problems gaming is having.

And don't worry, "dumb game to just have fun with without worry" is a good context too. That's why Saint's Row 3 was so good and nobody criticized it for the things they're criticizing TR and Absolution for.

Also, if you understood what misogyny is, you wouldn't come with the old "men are being objectified too" shtick. It's a side of the same coin, gender roles work both ways.

No I'm not shitting you. Actually, I'd argue that movies have a greater prevalence of "unrealistic characters" in them. Movies objectify both men and women. Most of the time, they don't do it as hyperbole, mockery or satire.. they just do it. Movies are still quite sexist and it's applied to both males and females. Games are actually adapting (rather obviously) to create more believable characters because you actually have to play them, and live with them for an absurd amount of time over movie characters.

And enough about 'political correctness.' For starters, journalism is suppose to be politically correct. Their professionals, they should act it and write accordingly.
Actually, no it isn't. Journalism is not supposed to be "Politically Correct". Maybe you have a different definition of "being PC", but in my view political correctness is the exaggeration of non-issues. There is a difference between "being offensive" and being "politically correct".

Next, asking the medium and its creators to grow the fuck up and recognize that its the 21st century is not demanding 'political correctness.'
They have grown up, actually. I don't remember the last game I played that "objectified women" to such a degree as you're exaggerating. Maybe you just play a lot of shitty games. Most of the women I play/observe in my games are real adults and proper characters with flaws and traits; Clothed properly no less.

Again, where are all these "harlots" you speak of? I'll warrant your claim if we were still living in the 90's, but alas...

Also, for complaining about 'sexism' so much, you are being blatantly and absurdly sexist. "Stupid teenage boys, etc". I don't know, maybe it's just me.. but perhaps the "Nun" thing was meant to be funny, and frankly it kinda was/is. If they were muscle-clad Chippendale's priests, would that have been as offensively sexist? Just wondering.

I always assume that anyone who complains about political correctness is a troll who thinks being nice to people is bullshit. I want to know why the gaming community hate women so much, and want to defend the right to objectify them. I want to know why racism in a game is just trivial. Is it because we have become a den for anti-social asshats: that the gaming community is their last bastion to be shitheads?
Your generalizations and lack of awareness to irony is a bit ridiculous. So if I complain about excessive "political correctness", I'm supposed to think "being nice to people is bullshit". Honestly, how do you even level that one out?

This is all incredibly silly. I can't believe "scantily clad assassin Nuns" is an actual issue right now. Every day I feel as if I'm living in a simulation designed to be deliberately absurd. I love that it's okay they're assassins and cold-blooded murderers, but we have a serious problem if you see some cleavage. This reminds me of watching Edited-for-TV movies in America. I watched a movie where a woman killed a dozen people, violently, and with gratuitous amounts of gore.. Later she got in the shower, the towel slipped below her waist and exposed the upper 2-inch portion of her crack. They blurred it out, because THAT IS INAPPROPRIATE, SEXIST AND TOO MUCH FOR TV. What world am I living in? (Don't answer that.)

I don't care if this get me reported to the mods, I'm not going to stand for it!
Well if you do get reported to the mods, it wasn't me. I'll swear too. Fuckity fuck.

It's fiction. Why do people get worked up over it? It's not like they're suggesting that all nuns behave that way, nor are they suggesting that all women should dress skimpy, nor are they suggesting that it's okay to beat women up. There is nothing offensive about that trailer at all. They should be able to send scantily-clad nuns to try to assassinate their main character if that's what they want to do. It's just fantasy, it doesn't have any special meaning beyond that. Nobody seriously looks at that trailer and then magically starts thinking, "Huh, you know what? Women are inferior after all. I'm gonna go beat my wife now." That's just ridiculous.

And you know what else? I'll say it: The cutscene was freakin' awesome. Seriously some people are impossible to please.

If it's not what you're into, that's fine. But there's no reason for this video to be any kind of a "controversy." For crying out loud. If you don't like it, don't play it.

The controversy was more about the murder of the women than the scantily clad part. The gaming audience saw the out of context murder of several woman and were offended by it.

As for me, I want context with my murder. If they are telling me to murder someone, I would like to know why.

Because they've come to kill you. They had weapons. 47 acted in self-defense. Do you need a better reason than "They're trying to kill me and I don't want to die." to kill someone? I'm just saying. It's not like 47 went after them. They went after him.

I am still failing to see the reason why people got worked into a hissyfit over the trailer

*insert generic rant about game and fictions not having an effect on the real world expect through very unhinged individuals who were crazy even before buying the game*
Not to mention the extreme silliness of it all is always present in the Hitman games. Has everyone forgotten the Hitman series this much that everyone should become extreme feminists?

People, people, people. Media or controversies are like trolls. The more gamers get worked up about it, the more we're feeding their delusional fantasies as if we're defending our crimes.

Wow, is it just me or 2012 is shaping up to be the worst year in videogame history since 1983?

I mean, we walked a couple of steps back with God of War, Tomb Raider and now Hitman being castrated in order to please everyone and the E3 was the blandest in quite a while.
Not to mention the game that will probably get all the GOTY titles will be Mass Effect 3, which is pointed by many fans as a big letdown.

I still think the whole thing was overblown, and the only reason it seemed to rustle feathers was because it was a guy fighting women, 'scuse me, scantily clad women. (who mind you had just tried to murder the shit out of him) Leaves me wondering if the reaction would have been the same had the devs used Rambo esque men disguised as a bunch of monks.

Still it's hard to actually care, but something about the logic for why we should be upset just nags at me as rather flawed.
The real problem isn't the violence against women, its the fact that it inserted something ridiculous into an otherwise plausible universe.

You want to make a game about killing sexy killer nuns go make that game. Keep them out of Hitman.
