If it's so different why did they call it bioshock? Why not call it.. I dunno... off the top of my head Aeroshock?
Because the word 'Bio' has nothing to do with water.
You kinda missed the point there brah.
It's not that 'bio' has nothing to do with the sky. It's that they claim the game is completely different from previous bioshock games... so why keep the name?
Because it still uses plasmid type mechanics. Just because it's not going to be "exactly like" the first two doesn't mean it won't have some of the same elements.

I'm one of those sorry few souls who wasn't very fond of Bioshock. At first, it was pretty incredible as a setting, but it quickly petered out for me after a few hours. The gameplay itself was just not that interesting, and the setting after 2-3 hours felt like little more than a backdrop and was not used enough, in my opinion.

I really have no interest for Bioshock in the clouds, and I feel it's going to be one large exposé on sodden political views. That being said, either of the two are leaps and bounds better than 95% of the shooter trash coming out these days. I say "two", because Bioshock 2 doesn't make any sense as a sequel.

Short point, I felt Bioshock would have served better as a good novel.

Really...? So why the fuck is 'Bioshock' part of its title if it's gonna be nothing like Bioshock?
How can they be surprised people are calling this 'bioshock in the sky"?
(Also, from the footage they've shown, it seems pretty much the same thing...)

Why am I not surprised by the number of illiterate dullards repeating "duuuuuur they just called their game boring" and "well, if it's not Bioshock, why'd they call it that?" Let's recap:

-Infinite explores similar themes and ideas to the original Bioshock
-However, it has a new setting, art style, and new political idealogy.
-They are trying to have the new setting effect the established style of the series in a different way, both in terms of storytelling and gameplay (such as by utilizing the fear of heights as opposed to, say, the fear of drowning in the first game).

Therefore, what they are saying is that it's not the original Bioshock just put in a different skin, but rather a new way to explore the same concept (think of Martin Scorsese's gangster flicks, the only difference being that Irrational Games are making it in the form of a 'sequel'). How does this not get through to people?
Yeah, Martin Scorsense films all have the same name.
Of course we're a bunch of retards; we just don't get things like you do...
What you're not getting: If they want us to distinguish a 'buffalo' from a 'large racoon' (or whatever), as they said, not calling both the same thing would definitely help... wouldn't it?

If they didn't want people to think of this as Bioshock in the sky then they shouldn't have called it Bioshock and put it in the sky. You reap what you sow.

I know what they're going for, but they haven't established a 'Bioshock World'. There have been 2 Bioshocks so far that have a similar MO. It's not going to be easy to get people to follow the sudden right turn they're trying to pull off. It would be like making Silent Hill 3 suddenly a survival game set in Hawaii at High noon where you're avoiding Street gang rather than monsters. The sudden tonal shift is whiplash inducing.

It's a name cash in that may hurt them more than help.

To all of you who ask why they call it Bioshock if it is so different, are you serious? Of course it is still going to be Bioshock even if they make a lot of innovations.

If it could stand on it's own merits they wouldn't have to use the name for sales. It's like if Valve called Portal, "Half-Life: Aperture". They're both in the Half-Life world and both FPS's.

Of course if they did that, you'd have people saying: Half-Life with no Combat would be "F**king Boring".

Suck it up and just make a new IP Irrational Games.

Art direction-wise, BioShock Infinite has also taken a different turn. Irrational showed the evolution of the game's concept art which started very dark, and eventually became the more colorful world we see today. The studio says a brighter world can be even more alarming than a dark one, pointing to the lit scenes in The Shining as a comparison.
Yeah, because that worked SO WELL with Resident Evil 5...

I'd say the lighting was hardly one of the things that made Resident Evil 5 bad

"As Levine says, it's "like being on a roller coaster while hanging in the air, and you have a fucking gun.""

I just have to laugh at this a moment, as one of the comments I saw a lot of when looking at the gameplay trailer was that it looked like the game was on rails. I don't imagine this is what he meant at all, but still, I appreciate the irony of the quote.

In other words, they wanted to make a new game, and they gave it the 'Bioshock' tag so it would sell.
Think it looks crap.

If you didn't want it to be like Bioshock you should have taken out the need for the game to be 'alarming' in the first place. Then I might actually have wanted to visit Columbia's flying city.

Then again, dropping F bombs all over the place seems like a developer just desperate to be seen as cool. That's what your game quality is supposed to be for, guys.

I cant think of a single think here that looks not totally awesome.
They got me with the robo-horse.
Well the whole skyship-city thing looks somehow more european, but still awesome.
And still no one called infinite boring, they just said another bioshock, just in the sky, would be

So they're deliberately misleading people then? Why call it Bioshock if it's "not Bioshock". If I cooked something called bell peppers and beef, then you wouldn't be in the wrong for expecting the ingredients that comprise the name of the dish to actually be ingredients used.
is that... a cowboy bebop reference? oh god, you're so manly and awesome!

It's a completely different game.. and yet there are plasmid like powers.
... It's Still Bioshock, why feel bad about that? I loved one, cared little for two, other than the drill charge.. was awesome.

No, but it meant they had to leave horror out of the question, You can't put horror in daylight, End of story! by making the game set in the Bright sunny filled plains of Africa.. well there's no sense of unknown, mystery, of darkness and depth... just lots of sand...
