There's a book called Adventures Beyond the Body by William Bhulman. Read that before you read some new age drivel on the subject.
Thanks for the recommendation, I'll look in the library for it tomorrow

My pleasure but don't be surprised if you can't find it in the library. You might have to go to amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Adventures-Beyond-Body-Out-Body/dp/0062513710/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1253049216&sr=1-1
Really before you read any of this stuff you should read Prometheus Rising by RA Wilson. It's a good primer and will prevent you from taking it all too seriously and becoming a total flake.
http://www.amazon.com/Prometheus-Rising-Robert-Anton-Wilson/dp/1561840564/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1253049142&sr=8-1
These are the books to stick too if you want a somewhat scientific approach.

Well, living things emit energy. Perhaps this energy can be picked up as heat/light energy. How else do heat sensors work?

Emotional state also effects the chemical reactions with a person. So do hormones etc. That might effect the intensity of the energy.

Scientifically, it is difficult to judge whether people can perceive this energy. Machines can do it, but, that not how people usually refer to seeing an aura. As this touches on a spiritual topic, science wont be able to answer anything.

(That being said, I get "Feelings" of different colours around some people. Is this what is referred to when someone says they "see" an aura?).

I don't know about visible aura's but I have an uncanny ability to sense when someone is near, even if I don't hear them. I believe humans radiate some kind of presence although I don't know if it is something as mystical as an 'aura' it might just be an undeveloped sense, like how cat's use their whiskers to sense things and bugs use antenna.
Lots of people have that. I don't know exactly how to describe it for every one but it's just this feeling that you get. People call it paranoia.

On topic though the visible light is kind of bull if you ask me. Future tellers and stuff like that pick up on things like the way you stand and talk and give it a color and say it's an aura.

i can do that too .. apparently this happens when your subconscious mind realises something faster than your conscious mind does and it's translated in the form of a feeling of some sort (for me it feels like a light compression in my body) this also happens when people are watching you

it's nothing mystical .. i just means you have good perception .. more than once i freaked a mate out by saying something like "someone's here" or "someone's watching us" then moments later there's a knock on the door or a friend calls from behind us

Well the human body does emit light, due to all the chemical reactions. Of course its way below the human visible light spectrum...dont know if that counts? We also emit other forms of radiation, such as heat.
Actually I recently read an article in a journal that concluded that light is emitted from the body in the visible spectrum, however because of the quantities emitted, and the time of day, typically mid morning, that it has up until now gone unnoticed, sadly i can't find the source at the moment.

I highly doubt that there is any validity to what so called "aura readers" say. Why is that? Because we have no reason to believe that the human body would evolve an aura. If it could be shown that an aura had evolutionary benefits, and if small incremental steps could be found from "not having an aura" to "having an aura" existed, and all of these steps were beneficial for survival, then I would be more inclined to believe there could be an aura. As it is, it seems very unlikely.

Interesting, what would you have to be in an incredibly dark room or something. I would like to read said article. Go my pretty, find it!
From what I remember they used much of the same equipment to detect it as they do in luminescence dating, i'll see what i can do about finding the exact article around here somewhere, but you will probably need access to a collection of recent journals to read it as well, i'll get back to you.

**DISCLAIMER** I did consider putting a poll on this, but I thought it would be better to hear people thoughts directly form them, as opposed to looking at statistic.
I like you already
Aura: The dictionary basically describes it as a field of subtle, luminous radiation supposedly surrounding a person or object (like the halo or aureola of religious art) that some people are claimed to be capable of observing by means of their third eye. ( thank you Wikipedia)
Well, we let off heat, which can be seen as a form or radiation, so I suppose in that sense it could be real. however, being able to physically see it is bullshit in my opinion. The amount of heat we let off shouldn't be visible to the naked eye, and third eyes aren't real so we can throw out being able to see it all together. There is my opinion.

The psychic aura is nothing more than people like me (good at reading people) making some money for their... Talents.

No. it is not. not in the sense that damn hippies use it. However, it is entirely possible for benign mutation to possibly affect a pesons optic nerve and perhaps enable to see a hint of the light outside normal spectral range

It's just the power of pure body heat, baby!

And heat comes in the form of infrared radiation, so cameras can see it, and maybe perhaps even a few other people can see it. Maybe they were born with eyes that can pick up lower wavelengths of light than we can.

And by looking at the infrared image of a person, you can figure out a lot of things: whether they are male or female, if they're sick, if they have internal bleeding or damage...

Haha, genius!

I myself do believe in Auras, as I have seen a few (or atleast what I believed to be an aura).
Unfortunately, thanks to religion, Science, the raping of human senses and the lack of dependancy on what we as humans can do and the dependancy now on machines, plus the development of "logical thought" makes this area very "well, hmm, maybe...but no...but what about...".

I would elaborate, but I used up all my arguing/expression with a talk to my friend about "Time".

Oh, I'm also not ill and do not take any mind bending drugs and do not hallucinate, as far as me and my talking slippers can tell...

Well i actually live with a psychic and believe me when i say that after intensly scrutinising him (and i mean intensly) ive found enough evidence to believe him.

Yes Auras are real, as are spirits, dementions and reincarnation.

But not the holy spirit, *Spit*

Same here. I just get this "feeling" when a friend is in my vicinity.
The force is strong in this one :D

I get that too, but I wish I could tell who it was. Everytime I time I try to surprise someone who I can 'feel' is coming, I get their name wrong

OT: Not in the spiritual sense, we probably do [whatever everyone else who had scientific explanations said]
I often can tell which family member is at the door when they come in, but I think that's down to how their walk sounds, what order they do things in rather than some psychic crap.

I am someone who is always weary of karma so I suppose I can say I do believe aura is real. I always knock on wood when I mention something I don't want to happen.
