lmao

congratulations OP, you have totally and completely missed the point of Lollypop Chainsaw by several country miles.

why?

cause some people remember that video games are supposed to be fun, for no other reason then the sake of 'fun'. there's no 'deeper meaning' nor is it making games look worse, the movie industry has movies like this by the truck loads and their 'reputation' isn't tarnished.

the real issue is people like you taking games to seirusly, because they want games on the whole to be taken seirusly. hate to break this to you, but the 'mature' crap like God of War dose more damage to games credibility then Lollypop Chainsaw ever will

However trashy Lolipop Chainsaw appears at a glance; it is a tonne of fun when not taken seriously. And it pretty much makes itself impossible to take seriously; because the whole thing is all kinds of insane. It has some mature material, but it's a really upbeat game, glossed with a facade of naivety and fun-loving wackiness.

I haven't played LC, but I rather get the sense it's parodying the excesses of the genre and the medium as much as employing them.

lollipop chainsaw is not doing a thing for the industry. It's been released with minimal hype, it will sell a low ammount of copies, and it will be forgotten shortly.

I honestly can't even consider it a parody (in the sense that a parody has something subversive to say; this is more like a celebration). IMO there's just not enough method to its madness. It's a wacky japanese developer that has looked into American pop culture and ramped up the tropes and stereotypes to 11. It's also their unfamiliarity that's part of the fun.

There's a bit where the main character's older sister meets her boyfriend, (the head she wears on her belt) and has this weird kind of fascinated admiration of him being nothing more than a head, and how if she were like that: she could eat and it'd all just fall out of her neck. A kind of (from-the-outside-looking-in) wink at the pathology of thin western girl's anxiety about fat.

It's clearly not a game that is meant to be taken seriously..... judging all games based on this one would be like judging all movies based on zombieland. For the record, I think it looks kind of fun.

"do games like this tarnish our already stained image?"

No. People like you do.
At least play the game or look non-biased videos up before jumping on your high horse.
Have something of greater substance to say than just criticizing the looks of the main character because you sound like someone who just looked at screenshots, watched a minute of gameplay and just criticizes the very basic, superficial gist of the game that is mostly made up by you.

This game is downright artsy.

Is "girls gone wild" or "Sperm Overload 2" bastardizing the film industry? no they are just one film out of thousands and do not represent the whole industry, the same with lollipop chainsaw

Sounds like someone is taking the game a bit too seriously. It's a girl in a cheerleader outfit fighting zombies with a chainsaw.

It's like trying to take a game centering around a boy made out of meat who's trying to save his girlfriend who's made out of bandages from a fetus with a robot body seriously. It just doesn't work.

Somehow i thought the game was supposed to be an interactive parody about modern life or American high school life. I'm only slightly annoyed by the gritty graphics and some of the songs. Other than that it's just a short parody that isn't to be taken seriously.

Oh no, video games are looking stupid and childish. Oh dear god.

I'll be honest, when I saved a guy, and all he had to say was "My favorite president is Warren G Harding!" I laughed my ass off.

Yes, because no game has ever involved skimpily clothed girls fighting before. Because gaming is the only industry with childish over the top titles designed to entertain rather than analyse.

The only reason it doesn't help is because some close minded fools like to think that games can't be serious or artistic, so they choose the worst possible titles as an example in order to further their own arguments.

That's not really the games fault though, it's the peoples.

Oh please there are far more worser skimpy scandalous female characters (Ivy from Soul Calibur, that chick from X Blade and etc) out there that offend the industry than that Cheerleader.

How many book and movies and even songs do you think there are out there that the people in those fields wish weren't a part of their medium?

Who gives a shit about a cheap fanservice game like this? As someone else said, that?d be like judging the merit of the film industry from American Pie. Or the music industry from Rihanna. Or teenage-oriented books from Twilight.

Lollipop Chainsaw doesn?t seem to be that popular anyway, and I doubt it?s taking itself seriously as it is, judging from its premise and the fact that, y?know, it?s a video game that?s designed to entertain you. And teenage girls dressed in fetish uniform being badass is nothing new (especially from Japan). You have nothing to worry about. If idiots like Jack Thompson want to capitalize on something like this and say how it?s ?corrupting your children?s minds?, then they can, but it?s not the game?s fault. It?s his bigoted fault for blacklisting all games, mature or not, like that, and regardless of his interference, games like that are still going to continue being made.

I wonder how long it?ll be before PETA start bashing on Mario fans for playing a game that encourages violence to turtles. Oh wait, didn?t that already happen? Yeah, that was fucking ridiculous, but get a ?mature? game with shitloads of sex that?s ?degrading to women? and everyone pisses themselves in outrage. Just try to play the fucking game and have fun instead of scrutinizing it like it?s a fucking Shakespeare play.

Not really. The schoolgirl/cheerleader uniform fetish is pretty common. And she doesn't look minor...

Dude, it's Suda51, it's suppose to be weird-ass fun.

There's no point in trying to argue about if it's ruining the industry or not.

It's made by James Gunn. Of course it bastardizes the industry, James Gunn is the God Emperor of Hipster Douchebags, he's like a Scott Pilgrim comic that became sentient and decided to wipe out it's creators in revenge for its tortured existence. What did you expect?

Don't even get me started on the human Trollface that is Dusha 51.

Yeah I insulted Suda 51, bring it internet.
You insulted scott pilgrim! And im wearing a tshirt from that comic! For that you must DIE! (But seriously scott pilgrim is a masterpiece).

Lets use some media logic. If THIS is bastardising the gaming industry just by existing then THIS is bastardising the film industry and making all film goers everywhere look stupid:

In the same vein this is making ALL book readers look stupid:

Case closed.

I don't think you "get" Suda51. The thing is, his newer games (not counting Shadows of the Damned which is really more of a Shinji Mikami game)are pretty much video games about video games. The same way Tarantino makes movies about movies. They both use exaggerated genreclichés to... well, maybe not "poke fun" but rather "pay homage" to the simpler parts of their respective medium. They're practically saying "Even if it's dumb, hey, you can still have a lot of fun with it!". That's why Lollipop Chainsaws Gameplay and aesthetics reference old arcade games. It's a love letter to a time where games were a lot simpler and, honestly, dumber but also way more honest about what they are. A silly little distraction that didn't have to make a lot of sense. I'm not saying it was a better time... i'm glad that now there are games with a genuine artistic message. But it's also a time i look fondly upon. And i think what Suda is trying to say is "Hey, look... games now are not all that different to what they used to be!" and i dig it.

as you may know, suda51 made a game called lollipop chainsaw. it involves a skimpily dressed teen girl killing zombies iwith a chainsaw. she looks pretty much what a drugged up hooker that played basketball would look like. her legs are so long, shes probably taller than 7 ft., and here mini skirt is so short, it might as well be a strip of cloth. it looks stupid, and it makes us look stupid. to prove this, in one point, a person she saves says "i never thought id be saved by someone with such great tits!!" i mean seriously, it makes our industry look stupid, and childish. what do you guys think? do games like this tarnish our already stained image?

P.S., i did not buy this, i just watched videos by people with the same complaint as i, showing the part ive referenced to.
Half the point of video games is to do things you could never do in real life. With that in mind I actually respect chainsaw lollypop. It isn't afraid to be crazy silly and a little childish and stupid that is what is so great about it. There is nothing wrong with a hyper sexualized cheerleader fighting zombies it doesn't hurt anyone and it is so upfront about the fact it is so wildly unrealistic I don't even see how anyone could argue it has any sort of influence.

The beautiful thing about art and being creative is that you don't have to be restricted by real life or morals or anything you can be wild and do what ever you want without any restrictions.
