Do you think masturbation can be harmful to your life even though its a natural function(well with a little help) psychologically and how you act socially(primarily interactions with the opposite sex).
How much is too much or often is too often?(how often do you?)
Should you even? for it can be a real time waster.
When does is go from healthy to bad?(in your opinion)

Edit: I never said physically, but do you think youd be better off doing it every now and then than often everyday(like people usually admit to).
Like having more focus than you would on tasks.
Yes and no.

It's not harmful in any traditionally understood way, although some techniques can do damage if practiced regularly and too vigorously like you could damage any other part of the body.

The issue with masterbation is that a lot of people get into a sort of psychological haze with what they think about to help get themselves off, it rarely stays at the level of totally vanilla sex as time goes on. This can lead to issues with reality coming to seem disappointing compared to the visions someone creates for themselves.

This is not ALWAYS a problem, but you might notice in a lot of stuff they deal with some really gross/extreme stuff people wind up needing to "get themselves off", that's all based on this trend. "What do you think about when you jerk off" is not usually a question someone is going to answer honestly, but from cases where people have answered honestly, especially people who have developed problems, there can be a connection.

This is also where the old diagnosis about masterbation causing insanity also comes from, and also doubtlessly why many religions put a ban on it as a form of social engineering.

It's one of those things where it's normal, healthy, and probably a needed form of release for a lot of people. However like anything when taken to excess it can be bad. What's more I think certain psychological problems can probably be made worst by masturbation and in some cases people with specific tendencies that they could otherwise surpress might become increasingly sociopathic a micro-inch at a time based on what starts to go on in their head during such moments... of course that's not something you can detect or regulate.

That's my thoughts on the subject at any rate. There is a LOT of stuff written on the subject, some of it quite bizzare. If you ever wind up taking Criminal Justice and wind up attending psychology, abnormal psychology, and classes that involve criminal psych, you can get some greatly contridictory information on this because differant doctors have associated masturbation with differant behaviors. Interestingly studies of guys like seriel killers have shown an increasing level of disturbance in their choice of spank material, like when they go through their houses, track their buying habits, and similar things for the purpose of making profiles they will figure out what they bought for porn and did to get themselves off and how it might have started out normal with the old playboys and maybe baby oil, and then wound up with pedophille beastiality movies and sandpaper or whatever. The whole degenerative masturbation thing based on what they just keep envisioning... a lot of that came from doing interviews with these guys along side normal people and of coures those who are somewhere in between. Can masturbation make one sociopathic, or do those tendencies have to be present to begin with? Can it vary with the individual? It's a debatable topic and differant people have differant beliefs.

Gotta keep the gun in top condition mate!

(I am so sorry. Masturbation is the only thing I still respond to as a school boy.)

Here's the thing: Masturbation is (primarily) a replacement for sex. Sex makes babies, makes and breaks relationships, and generally keep the wheels of human society greased (eww).
Sex generates a lot of money, and it makes a lot of money too (most of it indirectly through babies, dates, flowers, gifts, exotic travel etc.)

Meanwhile, masturbation is generally free and doesn't generate or cost any money. You can support the porn industry if you want, but you don't have to, and free porn is readily available in large amounts if you need it.

To put it bluntly, masturbation puts a dent in the whole human reproduction, spending and money-making system. And that's (in my opinion) the main reason that you still hear lame-ass arguments about how masturbation can be dangerous and harmful.
Since humans can get addicted to pretty much anything they can get their grubby little paws on, that obviously goes for masturbation as well. But it's not the worst thing to be addicted to, by far. As mentioned, it's basically free if you want it to be.

Regular masturbation makes it harder to reach climax with a partner...
Can't say I've ever had that problem. In fact, I'd dare say masturbation has made me a better sex partner, because I know exactly where the "point of no return" is and what it feels like.
Also, simultaneous orgasm is harder to achieve than most people might think. It requires both discipline, teamwork and experience from both people.

Allow me to clarify some specifics:

~ As with all things masturbate responsibly. Masturbating in public can get you arrested. Autoerotic asphyxiation can get you killed. Masturbating until you are raw, or to the neglect of your other needs can cause problems. Masturbation to excess may also be indicative of other issues, such as depression, or an anxiety disorder, so check with a doc if you're worried.

~ Different people need to masturbate different amounts of time, and it's not as easy as x times a day or y times a week both men and women go through cycles during which their libidos ebb and flow (and with women it is to some degree related to their cycle). One's drive can also be affected by age, health, physical activity, stress, major emotional events (new love affairs, break-ups, deaths in the family, etc), weather and clime, income, diet, and so on.

~ Generally, a regular regimen sexual activity of any kind, including masturbation, is generally considered healthful by most medical communities. Less so by Abrahamic churches, who are all hung-up about sex anyway.

~ Masturbation is not a complete replacement for sex with a partner or vice versa. Just because your partner masturbates doesn't mean you're inadequate (or vice versa). Just because you fantasize about people other than your partner when you masturbate (or people you really shouldn't or wouldn't have sex with in real life) doesn't mean you're somehow perverse or sexually dysfunctional.

~ Even Osama Bin Laden, regarded as a holy man by his followers, had a porn stash.

No, its actually been linked to sexual and mental health... in moderation. its a stand in for guys because our bodies need to get rid of excess fluids. for gals though its basically just for fun and self understanding.
Actually, masturbating can relieve cramping and other assorted female pains--there's even some evidence that it can somewhat alleviate endometriosis symptoms.

A good workout is good for the ladyparts also.

As long as you don't do it often enough to literally peel your skin off, then there's pretty much no problem. As for psychological, there need to be some real deep issues already there before masturbation itself can be a problem.

So yeah... have fun.

As for personal frequency... I'd say I average out at more than once per day. Some days multiple times, some days not at all. Most often though at least once.

It's only harmful if you do it while wearing a sandpaper-lined chainmail glove.

How you interact with the sexe of your sexual desire [hey not everybody is hetero remember that] is not influenced about you giving yourself some pleasure. Not to mention lets be fair here how can you know what feels good if you don't try out. Did you know that little babies already move their hands in that area...

In short we are programmed to seek sexual gratification. That included doing it to ourself.

How much is too much or often is too often?(how often do you?)
There is no "to much" or "to little" as such depends on a personal desire levels and experience. Young ones between 12 and 25 are doing it the most. Those young dogs then it slows again and you go for quality instead of quantity

Should you even? for it can be a real time waster.
Time Waster? Ever heared of Blue Balls, letting go of seed is a good healthy thing to do. And psychological it is healthy to.

When does is go from healthy to bad?(in your opinion)
Well it is like anything when you have to do it 20 times a day including on the train, in public etc.. you gone to far. Hell even if you do it 5 times a day if you do it in the privacy why not?

Edit: I never said physically, but do you think youd be better off doing it every now and then than often everyday(like people usually admit to).

Good question personally I go for quality over quantity. Of course one of the biggest sex organs forgotten is the brain so nothing is as nice as working out a very nice scene in your head. A quicky [less preparation] will give you the stress release and the release overal. But a good prepared one is an experience. And there are some ways to delay the inevitable. Remember mind over matter and the mind is the biggest sex organ.. with training you can do wonders.

Agreed.

I would also argue that being sexually frustrated will hamper your relations with the opposite sex, romantic/sexual, or otherwise.

Well yes if you do it way to much while in a relationship and the other half feels left out, or if you "tug" to hard and too much you can get skin abrasions or damage tendons....nasty ewww...but its not really pysically harmfull in any other way.

Just like water, masturbation is good for you.

As well as water, it is possible to overdose on masturbation. Luckily this results usually in boner pain and strained relationships due to addiction. Water on the other hand leads to cellular swelling, and eventually cerebral edema, causing death.
And, like water, it's not a possibility to claim it prevents dehydration!

All these people are so very wrong. Masturbation is an incredibly harmful practice. Try having your girlfriend catch you masturbating to pictures of her sister and not get the shit kicked out of you.
This made me giggle, if only for how unbelievably dark and depraved it is, which if anything, are adjectives I'd use o describe myself. Nice one :p
