Is Skyrim Multiplayer possible?

It's a nice thought but it just wouldn't be engaging at all. Skyrim is a HUGE game, one that takes hundreds of hours to explore fully. That would be akward to do with another player.

People who do co-op want to get into the action right away and Skyrim just isnt that kind of game.

Well, the way the engine works, multiplayer isn't technically possible. I think.

Though there was an Oblivion mod that emulated multiplayer insofar as it created a cloned NPC of the client on the server, and there wasn't any synced NPCs, and it lagged like shit. Best we managed to do was piss off a book shop keeper and get killed.

But if someone found a way to hack it together and have two clients and NPC synchronization, that would basically mean the end of my free time.

Part of me likes gaming with groups of decent ppl, but on the other hand i wonder if the dark dungeons and caves of Skyrim would be as scary & exciting if you're no longer alone in there.

it might not work also I don,t want TES or FO games in MP (except for the FO MMORPG) it,s also refreshing and rare to see a SP only game.

With the mod community around Bethesda games there's a very real potential PC Skyrim players to see limited multiplayer (though I have no idea what kind of technical limitations there are). I'd love to be able to invite a friend or two into a game and go dragon hunting, though a highly structured multiplayer like were going to get in ME3 I do not want for Skyrim.
I really hope for this too.

I remember people trying to experiment with modding in online multiplayer for oblivion. I wanted to give it a try but I had nobody to play it with (same for skyrim too though...)

Honestly, i'd love to see a co-op version of the game, they wouldn't need to change anything, I just want to explore the world with a friend.

That said, I wouldn't want to see if on any release day (if they consider it for future TES games that is), im sure reviewers would take note and possibly lower the scores because the multiplayer wouldn't add anything to the game.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! WELCOME TOOOOOO THE ARENA!

Seriously though, I can't envision anything halfway decent beyond that or Boethiah's Tournament of Ten Bloods.

Co-op mode in Skyrim would be pretty cool IMO. Although it would have to be a different story. 2 dragonborns killing 1 dragon is dull in comparison to 1 dragonborn killing 1 dragon. And I'd want it seperate to my single player. Like on a different disc so my single player is still big.

Might as well make it a diffferent game with similar mechanics.

Well of course not competitive multiplayer. That'd be no fun at all. Here's how it could work.

Host is Dovakiin. Everyone else is not. You'd need the host's IP to connect (perfect for LAN parties or similar whatnot and it would keep out strangers). Then everyone goes about and does whatever they want. It wouldn't play any different than single player (except it may be a good idea to sync discovered locations between players), but you could interact with each other. I think the new level scaling system would even support this (if it doesn't you would have to split experience between people, but then it starts getting complicated).

but they already got something working fine for Fallout 3. Still in progress, but looking good.

The Elder Scrolls are single player games.
I've been playing since Daggerfall, and both it and Fallout have always been the same.
Changing it to local multiplayer might seem good on paper, but splitting the screen detracts from it's immersion, creates issues with teammates wondering off, miles away from the quest point, and/or messing up your missions for $#!+$ and giggles. Online multiplayer would kill what the series is, and essentially just create another MMORPG.

I'd rather see it stay as it is, but in the end it's all subjective anyway.

From my experience with modding the Gamebryo engine (Morrowind - New Vegas) and based on my assumption that the new engine is an updated version of that, sharing the same basic limitations, I would conclude that multiplayer is almost impossible to be made by mere modders. And since Bethesda is not going to add it themselves, the chances of seeing MP is Skyrim are pretty slim.

I would like a coop function though, sending dragons to Sovngarde with the help of my mates :)
If, however, Bethesda decided to add coop to one of their games, they should do so after the release, so that not to hinder the quality of the single player experience. I wouldn't mind paying for an optional, not integral to the enjoyment of the game, feature.

I can see an Elder Scrolls MMO. It'd be the only MMO set in a world I actually give a shit about (Fuck Azeroth), but a competitive multiplayer Elder Scrolls game would be kinda stupid.

Multiplayer added to one of the RPG giants of the year would be a great addition, but I think there is some flaws and issues which the multiplayer mode need to fix. If they made the multiplayer similar to Red Dead Res multiplayer, or a totally original PVP match in the imperial Arena, then it could work.

It could be possible if they went along the lines of the Fable 3 multiplayer. It may be possible with mods in the future but I really enjoy playing it by myself anyway.

Woo, 1000th post!
Congratulations :D

OT: I could see something like that happening, Quick, gather the hardcore Modder's (Don't know if that's really a word xD) and get them working on this now!

It would be nice this is 2011 after all.[/B] I wish they would go the halo ce route MP or not the games still treated as single player that way you don't have to adjust crap. Give host the "main" and just treat the others as companions. It honestly shouldn't be too hard to add in.
the hell is that suposed to mean?

I dont like that attitude at all, it implys that all recent games have ot have multiplayer.....becase???..its popular???

its not a good trend,

its not a good trend,
It means in the era of ubiquitous high speed internet and (especially)in a game as open ended as TES series there is no reason not to include some basic MP functionality. Co-op would have been so easy to implement (barring some technical reason) without hurting the game in the least that its almost disappointing, heck at least make an arena for people to at least tinker with.

YES there is a reason to NOT have multipalyer

elder scrolls and other games are suposed to be fully single player experneces

the more effort your putting into multi for thease games the more your taking away from single player....and in the end whatever multi that is there is likley tacked on (to be honest i have no Idea if co-op would work but hwy vother? there are other games better suited to co-op)

do you want evey game to play like left for dead or borderlands on its own? mabye it could work in skryim without harming single player the there is no good reason other than "they can" this I dont think is good enough

you shouldnt fault agame for NOT having somthing that SHOULD NOT FUCKING BE THERE and was never intended to be there , thats like giving a movie thease days a lower score because it doesnt use CGI...."oh EVERY movie must make use of CGI...because c'mon people its 2011!"
