Is Skyrim Multiplayer possible?

I don't see why they couldn't have had an "Arena" and just allow PvP. I'm not crazy about turning this into a co-op game but I like the idea of being able to pit my character against my friend's.

what you need to remember is that elder scrolls is single player. All of the quirky things that make elder scrolls so immersive would evaporate in multiplayer

This an interesting idea, but I'm not so sure it's really possible to have such a large scale MMO. This is only the 21st century, not the 23rd century after all.

Let's not forget there are a couple of facts that have to be considered.

Fact 1: The Elder Scrolls Series is known for having NPC's that can die permanently, with a few exceptions when it comes to characters vital to the main quest. It's part of the fun.

Fact 2: Other players are dicks!

So while I doubt the appeal of a Massively Multiplayer Elder Scrolls game, perhaps a limited Co-op version will be good.

i'm thinking...magic portals. yes, you enter portals and get the option to enter a friend's world or enter a random person's world (done in universe, wouldn't take much) and say you have to activate your own portal to allow other people to come in, so that way your asking for it if you get griefed. should be able to be switched on and off too.

i see no reason why it couldn't work, but then my only experience the TOS is leveling a fallout 3 character to 34, sooo not a lot.

It might work as an MMO, and maybe even Co-Op, but it would never work like CoD or something.

That said, I hope they don't bother with multiplayer. So not interested.

Lol...so much whining and moaning...sigh.

Anyways I would personally love to see such a mod, keyword here being mod as it would be an optional expansion, and obviously(most likely) for PC only, so you console goers need not ***** and moan.

Borderlands managed to integrate a single/multiplayer RPG quite well, and for some of the aforementioned flaws, the skill system in borderlands scaled to the highest ranked individual, so yes the enemies were hard as shit for a noob, but they leveled up very fast as a result being that experience for killing enemies was shared across all players not just those who did the killing.

Bethesda themselves said there was not going to be multiplayer so this would be a player made mod. It will(would) also take some time to develop so I doubt it would "ruin" the experience, most of us will be well through the game by the time it would come out.

It would be no where near MW3(and comparable shooters)...and its...well interesting gameplay (which goes back to the mod most likely being PC only).

I think what borderlands did was a great achievement in gaming honestly...it had a very unique approach being that the "Host" could be whomever, and it would load their world for the other players, competing missions and quests were saved for the host game only, if players went back into their single player games, their story did not progress leaving little issues with it messing with your SP game. The game also scaled progressively in difficulty, being the more players that joined and their collective levels would make the game more difficult (more HP for enemies, because more damage could be dealt).

This is really an amazing and immersive(sp?) game and I can see bandwidth being an issue for online play, and the task in general being quite hard to accomplish...but I am hopeful that in coming months or years after we have all completed or tired of the game perhaps a co-op mod will come along and revive gameplay for some of us.

multiplayer would break the game. TES needs to focus on one person and that is the person who paid 70 dollars for a great story, colourful characters and amazing dungeon and locations. Multiplayer would just take focus away from those thing that make this game series so amazing

What kind of multiplayer? Instance based or open world? Two player or more? Competitive or cooperative? Based around a set goal (clear the dungeon, do a race) or more open objectives (do the story with another guy)? Saying "multiplayer" is as nebulous as a "single player" demand. Be specific.

multiplayer is not as easy to implement as some people are making it out to be. Its more then just taking the game disk and writing multiplayer on it so i say no.
That and Elder Scrolls doesnt need multiplayer it would ruin the experience

You want Elder Scrolls in multiplayer form? Look into Mortal Online. Tried the beta, it was pretty good, even though I disliked the magic system. They might have changed it since over a year ago, when I tested it. Try it, and don't attack someone in town, or get caught stealing, if you do, someone will yell "Guards!" and then god-like guards will run to you and slay you with one hit. (Lvl 37, I think they were?).

Besides, a fix to this I believe would be to have a skyrim game that had an invite-only multiplayer function. This way no one is going to run up to your wife and kill her, then drag her to the bed, and bend her over it. Just because I enjoy killing tavern maidens and bending them over the bar, doesn't mean someone else should do that to my wife. Don't mess with a serial killer.

If it were small scale customized server type multiplayer like Neverwinter Nights, I think it could have potential. Especially if one had the ability to use the developer tools to create new areas. The only problem is, they would have to change to a text based conversation system for the NPCs/quest givers for player designed quests and that would break flow.

Sure you could allow modders and creators to add their own voiceovers but only 1 out of every 10,000 would be tolerable. I really don't want to hear pre recorded voiceovers by some 12 year old from Boston trying to sound like a Nord.

It would probably be doable with the man-hours and funding.

If a multiplayer mod ever were to be introduced, the first thing I'd do is build a level that was just a grand web of narrow bridges, suspended five minutes' worth of falling above the auto-kill floor, just to demonstrate why it was dumb to make a multiplayer mod for a game whose entire story and experience are contingent on the fact that you have an unfair advantage over most of your competition.

I think it'd be a great idea i'd love to play with my best friend by my side.
Its also possibly I'm sure.
What you people don't seem to realize is that you don't HAVE to play multiplayer? It's not impossible to keep the game as is and just add multiplayer free roam, the way i see it, if they ever did make it as an official part of the game (not a mod) you would be able to do only miscellaneous quest and there would be no trophies for online game play, unless of course, they made trophy for connecting with someone else, no more then that though.
No one is MAKING you play online.

There's a couple of Mods for Oblivion that give players multiplayer of some form. So Skyrim multiplayer is very possible. As for weather it should be done... Perhaps in a Dark Souls form maybe...?

I'd be up for some sort of MP like Fable 3 had. Someone can come into your world and you adventure together (until one of you takes an arrow to the knee). Any more than that and you just get something that looks a lot like MMOs out now anyway.

I wouldn't like multiplayer as much as I would a 2-4 player co-op.
CO-OP is multiplayer. the multiplayer types are:
1. PvM = player verses machine. CO-OP and single player.
2. PvP = Player verses player. Deathmatch and that type of game.
3. PvE = Player verses everyone. has NPC and other players you can fight against.

OT:
Yes its possible and already being worked on. from what i heard it will be CO-OP mainly with arena style pvp. yeah no walking into town and someone ganks you plus it will be private servers and not an MMO.
