The amount of people playing, I reckon, is because it finally has splitscreen.

I would never have played this game if it didn't.
My friends are playing splitscreen with their girlfriends, friends not interested in the game, friends who can't afford the game, etc etc.

Eh... Well, yes, maybe, but I didn't really notice anything that wrong. The Cuban soldiers are portrayed badly, sure, but that's Call Of Duty for you. They don't do the enemies noble or anything.

And that bit with
notCastro and that girl who shoots at you afterwards
was fantastic, to my mind.

Also, I loved, LOVED Vorkuta. And I'm Russian! Figures I would hate it.
Yeah, true. But it's not like you're killing just Cuban soldiers at the start... Many of them appear to be normal police officers, who appropriately respond to a lunatic in the streets killing people left and right.

I wouldn't have minded the part you spoilered part, but when your squad mate remarks that "His followers are fanatic in their following" and shoots the body, it really put me off.

Hell, I wouldn't have minded the whole mission if they hadn't included the strange run through the city, which as far as I know never happened, and didn't make Fidel out to be some moustachioed Mickey Mouse villain.

It's this big stereotype from Americans that Fidel and communism was bad for Cuba, when in fact it was the American trade embargo that destroyed the country's economy.

But free speech, and it's done, and it's relatively minor, so I'm stopping before I make a bigger issue of it than it really is!

black ops is the first call of duty I acctually think is good since cod 4
I agree. I even liked the single-player, even if it does feel more like playing through a comic book than an actual military experience. And they finally made the player character the main character, rather than the side-kick, like the older Call of Duty's.

Well, that's what you do in CoD. It simulates war, after all. Not every German/Russian/anyone you kill is supposed to be a jerk.

The run through that city was made just for general fun. CoD has never been that accurate.

Oh, and you
actually kill the British in that game at one point. I don't think they're supposed to be the villains.

So, yeah, I get where you're coming from and I never had anything against Cuba, but, hell, it's fiction. It's not like this is Rambo IV or anything.

Not bought it yet. Might get it during the Xmas hols. Only time will tell.

This better not win GOTY. There have been so many better games out this year!

Funny how they've dressed the cold war up in Blops, when it basically consisted of America either sulking (Cuba) or getting their asses kicked (Vietnam).

Definitely. Red dead redemption and mass effect 2 for example.

funnily enough, its also the game that will validate them making a "multiplayer only" video game

and the backlash of that will either give them more money or crash and burn (right now i dont know what the current generation of gamers wants... and if this "Multiplayer experience" is for real or only a thrend that will go away in a year or so)

why oh why do the main stream guys keep being blinded by "multiplayer" and "achievements" and stuff like that?? why cant they realize they are paying for the same experience with each installment, i mean, i know the games are "different" but it all boils down to "kill that-protect that-capture that" the game modes are almost all the same.
Because they are fun to play?...which is kind of the point of videogames to begin with...
yes of course, but its the same "fun", there are relativelly more fun games with varied experiences, dont tell me you dont have fun with "Fallout" or "Mass effect" kind of games, i´m not bashing the "Call of duty" experience, but with the state of "single player" so left appart and such a let down, the publisher seems to think only multiplayer games are worth a try

that is to say, the "game" is only "fun" when you play with other people, wich as we all know is a bunch of bollocks, the game can be fun with single player, but they only focus on the multiplayer because it´s the selling point, wouldnt you want a game that focuses on multiplayer but also haves a broad-interesting-intense single player experience?? i know i would, but the publishers simply dont care.

I´m not against fun, but so far it feels that people are only "jumping on the multiplayer" a new game comes out, they trash the old game, MW2 in this case because their friends have the new BLOPS, so you are paying to play with your friends, not to play your videogame, its all good if you dont care trashing your previous game, but i know that its not worth to pay 90 bucks just for the multiplayer, wich a lot of games in this generation focus in, just being the "next big thing" in multiplayer isn´t enough in my opinion

i know that if i buy blops i will discard MW2, because the single player on MW2 wasnt that good, i did with the first MW, but i keep playing again and again games like Mass effect, gears of war, even the Halo franchize has more going in single player than blops, hell, i play every year my copy of Mario 64 and Majoras Mask, those were really good single player adventures

thats what i mean by being "blinded" by multiplayer

All this means is that they can make a two map DLC, maybe re-texture one weapon to look like it's gold-plated, ask $20 for it, and it'll sell ridiculously well. Guessing they were working on that before this thing even hit the shelves.

You have got to be shitting me. This is the best-selling game of the year? What the fuck did it do to deserve that?

Blops is a nice appellation, BTW.
oh dear, I hate to break it to you, but Blops isn't just the best selling game of the year... if it's outselling Modern Warfare 2, it could very well end up replacing it as the best selling game(or any form of any media, apparently)....ever. To be fair it is better than MW2, IMO atleast.

OT: Yea, not surprised. Though this does officially suck...means every CoD now has a one-year lifespan for MP (though I guess they already did, it's just now Treyarch "officially" doesn't suck) and in order to keep up with that MP you'll need to shell out for the overpriced map-packs....

Now all Treyarch has to do is fix the problem in the multiplayer without breakin the entire game and they will be 10X better than IW
What problems?
The Spawn system sucks(its COD we all know this)
You cant hear footsteps(Ninja=worthless)
the matchmaking system has a hard time connecting players to games
Hit detection is horendous*
and there is texture lag sometimes* meaning that the game doesnt show an enemy thats 5 feet ahead of you

but Treyarch says they are working on these

*happens in maybe 1 out of 7 games
You can't hear footsteps either? phew. I thought it was just my imagination. Because of that little glitch, my $200 turtle beach headsets are rendered useless. Once they fix it, er I mean if they fix it without fucking up something else, then I will offically say that blops is better than MW2.

Well, congratulations to Treyarch.

In 3 games they've gone from crappy wannabe to franchise leader, not bad. Although I expect this is the final nail in Infinity Ward's coffin. With their lead staff gone and Treyarch making games that sell just as well surely IW is going to get broken up sometime soon.
well technically they're still wannabes cuz the only original part of their work with Black Ops was the single player campaign and...
(okay zombies too but that alone doesn't cut it)
the multiplayer is just MW2 with things changed (fixed, for people who had a lot of complaints) and etc

so I mean I'm like whatever with all this, but yeah...Infinity Ward is best as gone man (cough Respawn Entertainment)

It just shows that the average game player doesn't care (and probably doesn't know) what company made the game. They just buy it for the name. Zynga could make the next Call of Duty and it would sell massive amounts!
