And I'd be willing to bet that anyone who plays this game will continue to call them the "Taliban" as well.

That's what I'm saying, yes. I'd be willing to bet that this would have gone by largely unnoticed had they not gotten so indignant about it, it would have been just another game with such themes. I probably would have thought "Hey, that's kinda cool they used a real name instead of a generic term" and then entirely lost any concern for it.

I belive both, because the revenant wasn't in Doom 1, but I don't think the Cyberdemon and Spider Mastermind were in Doom 2.
