For clarification, God does not frown on video games any more than movies or comics.

But anyways, if he's "too smart for his enemies", please explain the intense fail that was the Sims 2 "controversy". Or his being disbarred.
Well, a lot depends on your interpetation of God's word. To be entirely fair I don't know what his church preaches, I disagree with him, and I know a lot of people who would also, but consider there are sects out there that feel that following God's teachings pretty much involves forsaking pretty much all modern technology... like the Amish.

As far as the rest goes, yes his platform and beliefs were idiotic, but admittedly he did have to have something going on in order to have survived that long under the cirmcumstances, and I think that's the point. I don't think many people with legitimate positions could have survived against a multi-billion dollar industry and constant attempts to be disbarred for anywhre near as long as he did.

I think he believes some ridiculous things, but on some levels you have to respect the guy for sticking to his guns through all the hate even if he was wrong, and simply for being tenacious enough to not be knocked out long before it happened.

My oh my, someone thinks a little too highly of himself.

But, just to call a truce, I'll actually buy(and actually read) the next book he releases.

You know, to prove gamers aren't heartless assholes.

[sub]Only I can have that title...[/sub]
Same... except I'm gonna borrow it from a library, thank you very much.
Ehh, the dude needs the money.

Did he ever pay that, I think it was 40K he was ordered to pay?

Or am I having memory lapses?

Or... have I finally gone truly mad?
Well, he can't have mine. I'm a university student, there's no way I'm going to shell out a good chunk of my savings for anything short of Skyrim.

That's why I said "any more than movies or comics". Interpret as you will, but I highly doubt that Jack Thompson is against movies.

Okay... is it just me, or does this Jack Thompson sound a fair bit more pleasant than the lunatic from a few years ago?

He's going to claim he can cure the sick and heal the blind?
You.. avatar thievin' bastard!

OT: What does disbarred actually mean anyway? is it a court-ordered stfu?
Disbarment(With personal touches in pink):

Disbarment is the removal of a lawyer from a bar association and/or the practice of law, thus revoking his or her law license and/or admission to practice law.
Procedures vary depending on countries.

Jack Thompson, the Florida lawyer noted for his activism against video games, was permanently disbarred for various charges of misconduct(No shit, Wikipedia). The action was the result of several grievances claiming that Thompson had made defamatory, false statements and attempted to humiliate, embarrass, harass or intimidate his opponents(Understatement of the century, and failed at every damn one). The order was made on September 25, 2008, effective October 25. However, Thompson attempted to appeal to the higher courts in order to avoid the penalty actually taking effect(Not so fast, Jacko).[9] Neither the US District court, nor the US Supreme Court[10] would hear his appeal, rendering the judgement of the Florida Supreme Court final(This video perfectly sums it up).

So... yeah.

Sounds more like he's admitting to being a troll than reflecting on his legal career.

Ohh, ohh, things Jack Thompson says after sex!

I'm sorry, but I couldn't resist that.

OT: So what, does this mean he'll finally shut up and leave us alone now?

He's not doing God's will. I think most Christians would agree, there's nothing Christian about submitting gay porn as evidence.

P.S. Thanks

So are we Jackie, so are we.

Oh, and for the love of all that is holy, please keep God out of this.

*Obligatory sex joke here*

Don't you mean thirty one years of failing to fight the bar and the entertainment industry jack?

I'm surprised too. And sane is hardly a word I would use to describe a singleminded, uphill crusade against an entire industry on no concrete claims at all, pursued from a nonexistent moral high ground in a manner that makes him a bigger joke to the concept of God than anything he ever fought against.

Does anyone else remember his involvement with the Screwattack convention?

I remember watching the coverage in that and his attitude and felt sorry for all the shit he's got from people over the years. He seemed like a nice guy and I agreed with many of the things he's said.

There seems to be conflicting sides to this though, it's all very strange to me, sometimes I think "My god this man is insane" and sometimes I think "Ah, what a nice upstanding gentleman".

The main thing I know is he's given me some damn fine entertainment over the years :p

Can just imagine God standing near him saying;
"Yeah, I don't know this dude or what he's on about."

Aren't you only allowed to represent god in this world because he told you you could, not because you feel like you should be allowed? So that would mean this guy thinks he knows god's plan. Wow that's pretty hefty ego there.
