Can we sue Jack Thompson for being Jack Thompson? Or sue him for causing pain and anguish for threatening our hobbies? (Playing video games?)

I want to know why the guy offerend $50 for someone to punch Jack in the face? He could easily get someone to do it for less; A lot less!

It seems to me that Jack Thompson wants to run around and diminish other people's liberties, and then he wants the government to protect him for the consequences of his actions. If you piss of the consumer base of an entire industry there is going to be consequences in a free society. Now should people threaten him, no. But this is not uncommon for internet discourse. He made himself a public figure...why should he be excluded from the controversy associated from being a polarizing public person?

There's Anti-Jack Thompson facebook groups? Brb facebook.

Edit: On second thought he'd probably do something crazy like post all the names of everyone whose a member of these groups or mail them to their relatives or something. I mean, didn't he post some guys personal phone number on the internet awhile back?

Regardless of the legal merits of his case, however, this isn't the sort of attention gamers need. It may seem like a joke to anyone familiar with Thompson (although in the case of the $50 face-punch bounty, it's hard to say there's not some measure of seriousness involved) but to those on the outside looking in, it can appear more serious. Would anyone ever smack Thompson across the face with an Atari 2600? Of course not. (Those things cost money, you know.) But without context, it looks like a threat; and we, the gamers, end up looking like juvenile idiots or, worse, the violent psychos Thompson has worked so hard to make us out to be. Thompson never learned how to tone it down and it cost him his career. We don't need to make the same mistake.

Seeing that a woman successfully sued McDonald's for not warning her that coffee is hot, I'm not sure if it's going to go somewhere or not. In America, you can sue anyone for anything.

Oh that Jack Thompson.
Oh that Facebook.
And I think Facepunch is more likely to be sued than Escapist, but y'never know.

A perfect example of a certain thing I dislike: a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Thompson made a name for himself branding certain games as a danger and those who enjoy those games as immoral or worse, and in doing so created the very people he "fights" against.
