/sigh

I really REALLY wish Jack Thompson would go back into his cave of ignorance and remove himself entirely from society for 40 or 50 years.

Playing a war video game, even with fervor, would leave me about as well trained for actual war as a basketball video game would make me ready to go shoot mad hoops.

Sec. Gates has more important stuff to do than feed the trolls.

I'm not going to be buying this game, not because I protest what EA have done in creating this game, not because I think the subject matter is in poor taste, but because it is a generic, brown FPS and the sooner we stop buying this tripe the sooner it will stop being vomited into our laps.

I think that they should be allowed to make and sell the game just because of free speech. I hate censoring.

That being said, I will not buy MOH and if I play it I will not play as the Taliban just because I feel that that would be against my country. I would not be able to act out in the killing of NATO troops by the Taliban whilst the Taliban are still killing my countrymen. Once the war is over, I may be able to do it because it is history, not a current event.
Bravo! And I'm not being sarcastic. You are a man who obviously loves his country, and does what he feels is right, without trampling what our government stands on. While I don't agree with your opinion of MOH (I'll happily play whatever "skin" the computer gives me, although I'm not purchasing the game in favor of Modern Warfare), the fact that you see the difference between what you feel and how the government should act pleases me to no end. I only wish that others were as understanding as you.

Video games are not an effective combat training tool. You need to be given time behind a real weapon and put real bullets down range, real hand to hand combat training, and physical conditioning.

Video games are pretty much the opposite of that.

Damnit, I thought this guy was a goner. I guess these things just don't die at all, don't they?

He also told Gates that he would be justified in imposing a ban because the high level of realism makes it an effective training tool for the Taliban and other forces currently engaged with the U.S. military.
You know, that's like saying that mashing on your keyboard is an effective way to learn how to snipe.

To extrapolate on Bill Hicks commentary about the people we kill in the world: "Jesus: Murdered. John Lennon: Murdered. Ronald Reagan: Wounded. Jack Thompson: still walking around without the slightest threat to his life..."

I hope he dies in a car accident or something...

*in an overly loud and sarcastic voice* What a shocker! Jack Thompson is pissy about video games again!

Oh, he will be successful this time around for we do not have the freedom of artistic expression. *back to regular voice* Oh wait, my mistake, WE FUCKING DO. LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE FUCKED AGAIN THOMPSON.

I mean, christ in a hand basket. No one cared when in both Modern Warfares when you could play as a terrorist group in the multiplayer. But I guess the OpFor (as they're called, which is short for Opposing Force in case you didn't know) just doesn't raise enough interest, huh?

um...go look up glenn beck and GTA 4. He supports this stuff.
Seriously, youtube, so many false assumptions I feel like the game was falsely advertised to me.
"This is a game where your allowed to light a hooker on fire and cut her in half with a chainsaw! your kids could be playing this, your HUSBAND could be playing this"
BULLSHIT. There is no chainsaw, stop doing the marketing work for rockstar if you don't know anything about the game.
They should design the next GTA spinoff based on what glenn beck thinks is in the game, that would be AWESOME!
True... but that man is a troll with a TV show. He'll take whatever side the Democrats don't. It wouldn't shock me if America banned all video games tomorrow, he'd turn around and cry out how the dangerous Democrats are trampling the Constitution and how banning games would lead to book burnings and Muslim Extremist Nazi Communists running the country.

This kind of thing pops up from time to time politically, and nothing ever comes of it. Why? Because of the political fallout it would have, both legally (it wouldn't ever happen, the First Amendment is the first for a reason) and financially. Don't you think that if any kind of media got banned, all the media organizations and companies wouldn't circle the wagons? The "religious right" may have millions on top of millions, but the media industries have billions. And on top of that, Joe Average gets jumpy when he hears "Oh, didn't you hear, the Government won't let you do that." Freedom to do what you want is such a ingrained part of the US psyche that anyone who tries to get in the way of that won't be painted with a particularly positive brush.

The funny thing is is that the Taliban are playable in MULTI-PLAYER, not single player.
The guy is a real dumb shit.

He's either completely insane, or a completely insane genius.
Yes, this game trains the Taliban. They will gain the ability to verbally massacre our soldiers by imitating the swearing of 12-year-olds.
