"...He also told Gates that he would be justified in imposing a ban because the high level of realism makes it an effective training tool for the Taliban and other forces currently engaged with the U.S. military."

Ahhahahahaha! Oh how I've missed you!

At least he's targetting a game that deserves a ban for once. A ban for being an utter turd designed purely for the casuals and the frat boys.

Well I guess if Duke Nukem Forever is finally coming, anything can happen. And this time, whats happening is fucking stupid.
I guess since Duke Nukem Forever was resurrected, the universe needed something horrible/stupid to happen in order to restore balance. :p

I thought we'd heard the last of this crackpot for a bit longer. The hypocrisy that gets me though is that games have let you play through the eyes of all sorts of people, including Russian soldiers overrunning Berlin. Do they have any notion of the things they got up to?

There are double standards galore here. Why not play as a combatant from the other side? Is our democracy so fragile that it cannot cope with an artistic depiction of the enemy's point of view?

If he managed to get the case in my court (and if I were a judge) I think the appropriate response would be: LOL!

if I were ea I would issue a press release saying that "we have heard your crys and now we will replace the taliban in the multi player with other american troops and instead of recording kills it will record friendly fire incidents" see how that goes over
That would be realistic too! Considering how fucking incompetent the american army is. xD

This is like saying you can learn how to stop special forces squads by playing rainbow 6 vegas 2 or how to conduct guerilla warfare playing mercenaries... its stupid, illogical and is a bunch of political extremist bull shit.

Seriously, if the Taliban starts going into firefights believing their wounds will regenerate if they just don't get shot for a couple seconds, and that they can take a few bullets to the chest before dieing, that would be a good thing for us, for fuck's sake. Gates would be justified in airdropping this game and PC's all over Afghanistan.

Jack Thompson needs to learn that until virtual reality is totally perfected, a game will never be an accurate enough simulation for combat training, nor how to properly operate and maintain a gun. I know how to use a gun (thanks, Boy Scouts!), and it has nothing to do with pressing R1, nor RT, nor the B button. No one whose experience stems only from games would be aware of how to reload a gun and in the case of scoped weapons wouldn't be able to properly calibrate it.

That is one creepy picture.
Doesn't he have any eyebrows?

Too bad for him that they can't do anything legal to stop the release of the game, because that would be illegal.

A game is just a game no matter how real it can be, many people seem to have forgot that.
You're wrong. A book is just a book, but an instruction manual is a book. An instruction manual can tell you how to build a bomb. A game can teach you things, the argument here is whether this one teaches anything that is dangerous.

I am in no position, and neither is Mr Thompson, to make any such conclusions.
pffff really?
Replace any of the bad guys from the other call of duty's or medal of honor or ANY FPS game with a taliban and it becomes a "dangerous instrument"
You're both wrong or extremely blind.

Since you know for the past 20years it's always been real life =\= game

I just love the whole argument "... the high level of realism makes it an effective training tool for the Taliban and other forces currently engaged with the U.S. military."

BRB guys, gonna go play madden for a few months and net a sweet NFL career and get rich. I promise to share the wealth.

It's always funny to see Americans, and especially Jack Thompson, get uptight when you can kill their troops on a video game. Perhaps they should consult Germany on its feelings before releasing another WWII game in which you get to mow down the entire Nazi army. Or does that count as OK because they were the evil ones?

Regarding Thompson though, what can he do now that he hasn't already tried to do and failed at when he actually had legal power?
Yes us dumb yanks are always complaining about our video games. That's why our country banns and censors more video games than any other country.
So where are you from, if you don't mind me asking?
BTW you talk to germany, they bash the nazis more than anyone. Maybe you can defend their poor hurt egos when they man up and tell their side of the story. No they would rather go with the "our people were just too afraid of the big scary guy" excuse.
I mean really, we loved Spartans after the 300 movie but you could easily compare them to nazis if you look at the culture.
I did not say all Americans now did I? I aimed that at the people who have been upset over the ability to play as the Taliban in MoH. I was comparing certain Americans like Jack Thompson being outraged that you can actually take on American troops in a game, where if it were any other country they'd be fine killing them and complain if the country tried to pull the same crap.

If you must know, I'm English, and if a game came out where you could kill the English in such a manner, I'd say the exact same thing about my own country as I did about America. It may not be an unbiased look at the other side, but it's one of the few games that has bothered to take into account the oppositions view point.

If the Taliban actually train from this game then thats actually a good thing. Hopefully they will try their regenerate health tactic first.
