A game is just a game no matter how real it can be, many people seem to have forgot that.
You're wrong. A book is just a book, but an instruction manual is a book. An instruction manual can tell you how to build a bomb. A game can teach you things, the argument here is whether this one teaches anything that is dangerous.

I am in no position, and neither is Mr Thompson, to make any such conclusions.
Well I doubt that instruction manual is made for entertainment.

How Medal Of Honor even suppose to be realistic?
He should try ARMA 2 or America's Army, a game made by the Usa goverment for training, and it's free for everyone!

You and what army?

Gah, just when I thought things were starting to pick up. The man has no legal standing, he was disbarred for marginally less mad things than this before!
no no, he was disbared for submitting porn to a judge (to epmhasize what is and isn't appropriate) repeatedy, possibly gay porn as well.

Funny, I almost forgot about this guy. The last time I saw him was at SGC, and he was actually quite likable there. Now, apparently, I see he must have been acting.
When were you at star gate command?

It's like he is saying, "Cars are dangerous because some of the people who drive them cause accidents and can kill other people with them. Therefore, we should stop selling cars to everyone!"

What about the Americans who play this game and decide to become soldiers? How about the fact that pointing and shooting a videogame gun is nothing like pointing and shooting an actual REAL gun? Does that ever cross this man's nanobrain? Any Taliban sympathizer who uses this game to train themselves will be cut down like toilet paper if he or she tries to fire a real gun. I can name several reasons why: recoil, which the game controller does not simulate. No auto-aiming with a real gun. Guns are heavier in real life than a controller. Firing game guns makes you as much of a marksman as Mike Tyson's boxing game makes you an actual boxer.

Oh yeah, and then there are all those other things that games don't generally simulate that can throw off one's aim: air currents (for things like sniper rifles), blowback and recoil, taking off the safety on a gun and the even simpler one- handling a controller is nothing like holding an actual gun. Is he claiming that America should ban all gun games because it teaches people how to handle guns? Like Duck Hunt? That's as "realistic" to shooting an actual gun as "Modern Warfare" is. Only the graphics are better.

This is hilarious! This is just as good training for enemy troops as Modern Warfare 2 or any other similar shooter out there. Doesn't mean that they will use time and money to train with computer games when they have the real thing. Someone should piggyback this guy back to the looneybin!

Imagine if terrorists actually did use wargames sa combat training.
Something tells me we'd have the situation under much firmer control.

Indeed, if the real taliban are going to use this as combat training we should be airdropping free copies onto all known taliban locations :p

uhh...Yet again, he's ignoring actual FACTS when he goes on his tirades. Yes, anyone can preorder a copy of M rated games, BUT they still need a PARENT to pick it up! Games likes this being in the hands of those under 17 is not EA's fault or responsibility, but rather the fault of a bad generation of hypocritical parents who get offended when someone in a mall swears around their kid yet buys them games like this!
Sorry for the rant, but this is a personal peeve of mine. I work in retail, and see hypocritical parenting every fucking day.
And Jack Thompson's knack for ignoring actual fact pisses me off too. games don't cause murderous rampages!

"the high level of realism makes it an effective training tool for the Taliban and other forces currently engaged with the U.S. military."

Forget the Taliban, how does he think the US Military gets recruits anymore? This & movies like The Expendables.

This guy AGAIN?!?!?!?!? Is he not violating what the courts told him to do which is leave the gamers, the companies and everyone else ALONE??!?!?!?!?!?

Surprise that no one has assassinated him by now.
Wow...not really helping our cause here. Saying you want him assassinated just makes us look like psychotic kids.
The guy was told not to attempt preventing the sale of GTA 4. He wasn't given a court order to stay away from game companies. I understand why people hate him but he does have the same freedom as the rest of us. Even if he says we don't deserve it, he never has and never will be able to take that right away from us so why are people so pissed about this?

Just saying if more of us didn't get so riled up about this maybe we wouldn't get a reputation as violent angsty brats.
You misinterpret my post. I do not want him dead or anything.....just saying that I am surprised no one has tried to do something or other since he is hated so much.

Please read more carefully next time. ;)
