Qualified producer?
what games did she produce before Assassins creed?
she programmed a lot she didn't produce any.

by a lot I mean 4
She produced Sims Online for EA. That wasn't exactly a low budget, low profile title.

sorry my impression of PRODUCER was someone who overseed all elements of production not just PR.
and you would be mistaken. there are many various production roles within a company and even their placement (Publisher vs Developer) drastically changes their job roles. the position you are thinking of is more of an Executive Producer role.. and the publisher tends to handle the PR (always exceptions).
Thanks for the lesson. Can we go back on topic now?
it's relevant to the topic. the OP seems misinformed about the structure of corporate videogame publishers and he seems to be operating from a position of misinformation. i can assure you that Jade Raymond was note hired for sex appeal in order to push sales on a science fiction assassination game. in an industry as white collared and corporate as videogame publishing Human Resources would have shit fit if anything remotely close to this was occurring (ie, posting a Production staffer as a sex object).

Maybe I am misinformed
But at least I had the guts to post a topic about it trying to figure it out
I could of happily just assumed that for the rest of my life
at least I'm open to the idea that I'm wrong and take all sides of the argument in.
some people on this forum just seem far to eager for a flame war

i apologize if you think i am flaming you. that was not my intention and i didn't mean to infer that you are sexist. i was referring to your perception of the game industry, i should have been more clear in that differentiation rather than being pretentiously cryptic with the "says more about you" comment.

same here. even self perpetuated objectification is bad. i understand that they are attempting to empower themselves by embracing their feminity and unifying around that however i really doubt that guys look to them as role models of empowerment.

personally, i haven't even looked up or googled "frag dolls" since i find the entire notion to be a bit contemptuous towards men. you know, the idea that i am easily marketed to via my boner.

Well there is a simple example she is a qualified producer who attended a interview at Ubisoft. What do interviewers like? Charisma. She was charismatic therefor got the job and her charisma also made her the spokesperson because she had the ability. She is a producer with marketing skills is all. Although i don't think putting a pretty face to a game could hurt sales to the casual gamer demographic.
Yep, that's the line of thought I have. She's a good people person, and she has experience, so yeh, of course she'll be the PR for the producers.

It just so happened that Rule 34 bit her in the arse (figuratively, though I wouldn't be surprised if it were literal)...

Yeah, this thread brings to mind the whole situation w/ that cute read-head chick w/ the boys name, that was so big a few years ago. You know who I mean, the one that was good @ Quake and beat John Romero in a death-match, went on to get down w/ him in ...bed-match...as a live-in GF, and eventually got a lead-design job w/ Ion Storm...(goes and does a Google search)...Stevie Case. Yeah, she was pretty hot, but then I have a penchant for red-heads.

This whole Jade controversy (and I use the term lightly) isn't exactly the same situation as w/ Stevie Case, but I remember people talking about her only getting the recognition, and industry jobs, she got b/c she was a cute female-gamer that was in the right place at the right time.

Eh. As for Jade, yeah her resume is a little thin, but everyone has to have a breakthrough in their career, and hers was Assasin's Creed. Also, she was listed as a Producer, not an Executive or Lead Producer, or some other high-ranking and important job. I really doubt a large company like Ubisoft would try pulling a Milli-Vanilli out in such a highly visible spot and give her the title of Producer if she wasn't really a Producer and was just a mouthpiece, they would have given her the title of Community Manager, or PR-rep or something.

Realistically, "all elements" usually means "cost and schedule."

Well, to get technical, being sexist in such a situation could actually get you quite a lot. If your behavior succeeds in reinforcing a generally sexist social structure, then you get to automatically have more authority than 50% of your peers just by virtue of your gender. This is why "but some of my best friends are women!" arguments don't work, either.

You happen to be posting a question about whether women can make games on what is one of the most gender equal and least chavunistic gaming forums on the internet, what did you expect?

You didn't have the guts to say it, its fairly obvious why she was chosen out of the producers to be the media face, so get the F*** over it.

Women can make games and still look attractive.

Let's put it this way: You wouldn't hire Prince Philip to promote your game. He'd manage to make fourteen different racial insults in the first nine seconds alone, followed up by at least one count of insulting somebody's parents. And that's before he's even taken a breath - or indeed arrived at the destination.

You need someone who:
1) Is comfortable being the focus of media attention (I wouldn't be, I know that much).
2) Isn't going to insult everyone they meet.
3) Knows what to say and how to say it.
4) Isn't hideous.
5) Knows what they're talking about.

Does Jade fit the bill? I'd say she does. There you go then.

Its sad how people have turned this into a sexist rant,
I was just asking about one female and whether she was really participating in creating a game, not how I believe she coudn't because shes a female!

I based my idea around the fact her lack of portfolio of games and seemingly knowledge of the game based on interviews I'd seen. Its not like I'm the only person either
its like you've scan read part of my argument and jumped to some silly conclusion
and blurted the words "Sexist" because maybe thats how you feel.

You people just cant seems to grasp that. You seem far to hung up on all the political angels
to be honest its the sign of lack of intelligence, when you cant really read up on the arguments

I made no even remarks about her attractiveness I don't think shes that good looking anyway
I find it offensive you presume so. now thats Sexist!

presuming I'm so hot blooded male who fancies Jade Raymond when honestly I couldn't give a rats arse.

I give up on you people, I came to this forum for some intelligent conversations, trying to get away from the usual morons of forum posters, "anonymity=dickhead"
but I'm just greeted with Ignorant self righteous dickheads who abuse the internet even more then your average 14 year old X box live user
