The reason I would have a 3DS is the reason I already have a DSi: portable gaming. I realize the 3DS can push more polygons than the DSi, but then, my computer has far more graphical power than the 3DS. The 3D effect is all well and good, for what it's worth, but it alone isn't enough for me to make it my new portable gaming device.

I'm still waiting to hear about its capabilities as a movie-playing device, honestly. Something that can play movies in 3D, has enough memory and CPU power to run a web browser that doesn't stutter and hobble like a one-legged man on quaaludes, and has top-tier games I can't get anywhere else? Something than can actually replace some of the functionality of my laptop, and provide some features it can't? That would be worth forking out the money for. The 3DS as it stands has great promise, but seems kind of unfinished.

I dont want a 3DS it isnt backward compatible with GB games its battery is crap it has no games (practically anyway) and packs an expensive gimick (3D) that I will never use.
This. You remove the useless gimmick and it's nothing more than an overpriced incremental release that actually offers less than the DS Lite, what with region locking, crap battery life, and a lineup that makes the N-gage look like a PS2. The DSi was the same way. Add in a useless camera gimmick and virtual store a la PSP-Go.

What would it take to get me to buy a 3DS? Take away the 3D part and all the crap that comes with it - the extra cost, the extra weight, the extra battery drain etc.
Oh, hey, look! There's already a version that does that, it's called the DSi. I'll just buy that then.

It doesn't have an Advanced Wars title.

Seriously, that's all I really care about the DS for. Well, that and Pokemon titles.

They reserve their right to brick your console if you don't do what they tell you to.

When I got a Gameboy Advance, Nintendo released the Gameboy Advance SP. When I got a DS, they released the DS Light. When I eventually buy the 3DS, I will buy the MOTHERFUCKING RIGHT VERSION THIS TIME.

Definitely going with the lack of backwards compatibility, the 3d being one of those horrid eye-melting experiences that spawn headaches, and the fact that I bought my 360 for cheaper than this dinky little handheld costs.

Throw out the fact that the biggest named releases for this sucker are all either games from a genre I couldn't care less about (I'm looking at you, Street Fighter), or rereleases of games I beat the FIRST time they were out...what's the point?

I'll happily stick with my GBA and Fire Emblem/Castlevania CotM/Pokemon/etc and save my money for something else.

Well all these complaints sound like any given launch. Lack of games, high price, people are content with existing consoles. Not exactly surprising.

At the very least, the 3DS had more launch titles than the DS had, and all the other problems will be fixed with time and new models, so things are going as expected for me. I bought a 3DS full well knowing that, I'm perfectly satisfied.

My personal reason upon why I haven't got a 3DS amounts to 2 points - price, and lack of games.

Though Ocarina of Time has been a very big potential attraction towards the console for me... if many others feel as I do about that game, then I'm willing to bet that OoT will shift a LOT of hardware as well :p

I can identify with some of those reasons - particularly:

Too expensive
Crappy launch titles
DSLite is still good enough for the moment!

Those are the reasons I haven't bought one yet (although I do love the turquoise colour!)

I'll get a 3DS when they put out a 3DS exclusive Pokemon game. That's really all I use my DS for. And at least my old DS Lite lets me still play Emerald and Leaf Green.
Unless I am mistaken pokemon black and white make use of the 3d. Grey is just around the corner no doubt.
99.999999% sure you're mistaken.

But yeah, when Grey comes out, and it will surely be released with 3D compatibility, I will purchase a 3DS.

There aren't any games on the system I want, plus I'm never in a situation where a handheld would be needed.

I think the biggest problem is that they have display models in stores, allowing people to experience the sheer headache-inducing eyeball-dizzying properties of the 3D effect without having to drop the money. I'd actually considered getting one, but completely and permanently ruled it out after trying it - it's absolutely no exaggeration to say that I got a headache from playing that jetpack thing in a store for five minutes. I know you can turn it off, that made it just about playable, but at that point it's not really any different from the original DS so... yeah.

A number of reasons:

1) Lack of any games I care about playing
2) I already own an iPhone and a PSP and a DS Lite. Of the three I generally choose to bring my iPhone with me when on the go. At home I've got plenty to play on my PS3, 360 and PC.
3) The price is too high for an impulse buy.
4) The problem with 3D has never been glasses for me. It has been that 3D has yet to demonstrate its value and that eyestrain is a fact of life with such a system.
5) Poor battery life.

I haven't bought a 3DS because it costs a bomb and there isn't a pokemon game out for it.

I was thinking of buying a 3DS today. Didn't get it, bought a PS3 instead(altough i got a xbox360) with Demons Souls and Heavy Rain. Costed me nearly the same as a 3DS with Street Fighter.
The reasons are kinda the same as in the article, no must-have games(I'm a rpg fan and i finished ocarina of time long time ago, don't wanna do it again), most good games come out in the fall of 2011 or in 2012 and by that time there will be a new version od 3DS that has a longer battery life. I borrowed a 3DS from my buddy, battery lasted 2h with 3d and sound on....
I'm quite sure I did the right choice.
