Yeah, but the thing is, I've been playing video-games for 20 years. But since I have boobs people assume I only got into the hobby recently and only play Farmville.
Aren't boobs required to be a "proper gamer"? I think your problem may not be the boobs, but your failure to grow a scraggly beard to go with them.

[small]I mock, but only to hide the shame, for I cannot grow a beard. Woe is me.[/small]

Anybody know the game Jim used at 3:17?
That would be The Last of Us. The multiplayer by the looks of the coloured parts.
There are fake people on both sides, Jim. Lets not pretend that no one anywhere has ever pretended to like something to fit in with a group; gender has nothing to do with it.

That said men are the biggest offenders and I am not even making an alternate-universe parody, I really mean it. The biggest most casual crowd in gaming is, by far, the dude-bro crowd: the crowd you just mentioned fixated with CoD. It's 10x more likely any random girl would know an in depth question about gaming then one of those guys.
That's the thing, "posers" do exist, and in all sections of life. It has absolutely nothing to do with gender, and everything with the desire to either fit in or be cool.

The question though is "Does it really matter?" Sure it is annoying when people fake interest to be accepted, but a part of that is that they just want to be accepted and I don't see anything wrong with that. It's only when people take it too far that it really crosses the line, but to be honest outside of school age, when does that even happen?

I get it!

But you seem a little late to the party on this one, unless some more of that girl gamer stuff has happened lately. Has it? Have I missed something?

I thought that in order to be considered a gamer you just had to... y'know... like playing video games?

For example, do you know of Stephen Colbert?
I love that guy!

He has a whole show where he put on an act of satire based off people who are very "right" politically. I don't really see how a regular viewer could not tell that he isn't serious, but someone in the Bush administration, in 2006 I think, though his persona was real, and they had him come over to speak at one of their conventions.
:) It was a very funny affair.
Tell me about it, facepalms galore and all that >.>

As for Jim's video, while he does make it obvious that he's making fun of the people who complain about fake geeks(specifically female ones), I'm a bit sad to say the people I've seen actually complain about fake geeks aren't as far off from what Jim is acting like as I'd hope.
It may indeed be a strawman, but straw may be a bit too heavy to compare the weight of the argument to.

There is just a very odd, paranoid, and toxic element to the whole group of people who talk about how bad fake geeks are. Even when they have a specific case where what they say about a girl(or I assume at least at one time, a guy) who is "faking" being a geek, I can't really take the whole thing very seriously. I mean, worse case scenario, someone is trying to get attention. And that's bad because...reasons.

Should I not hear from you, may your time be good.
My main problem is that I simply haven't seen anything like what he talks int he video actually happen. Giving the benefit of doubt, this is either a geographical thing and much more prevalent elsewhere, or he's just plain fucking wrong. Still, I'm totally willing to believe it's a geographical thing.

Maybe because Slovenia, or the Balkans specifically still lives in the past. You're still an outcast if you're a gamer around here. No matter what your gender is. No matter what your job is. I mean what the fuck is wrong with you, you should be out there either making mad money or fucking everything that moves (or making mad money so you can throw it around so that everything that moves will want to fuck you). That's still the mentality here.
xD HA! :) It's not just you. Here in the U.S. we still sadly have a LOT of people like that. xD Hell, that one spokesman for the NRA tried to blame video games for all our gun violence.

As for people complaining about fake geek girls? Just take a look at the pages in this video's thread. You'll see at least a few. And if a feel like ya need more, you can always look up the stuff on Youtube(if you don't mind listing to a serious version of what Jim just did).

While I loved this video, and I fully appreciate this problems exists. I have to wonder, who has actually experienced it?

Male or female, where and how did you experience a "Fake girl gamer" insult?

I can't say I have but that said, I rarely engage in talks ingame and I don't otherwise socialise with people I'd consider ignorant
There was a hilarious case where the editor of a gaming website had a guy be a shit to her because she was wearing a Bioshock Infinite t-shirt. When he tried to tell her how she'd obviously never played the game, she responded by telling him how it ended.
ooo. link? please.

bit of a corrections though - she was a gaming editor on a techsite, so not exactly as I described her.

I think I can clear up a misconception you have. Sex sells to everyone fairly equally and women can be manipulated by it as much as men. Duke University put out a study recently that you can find with a quick Google search, but you could also just look at a few trends. Take a quick peek at Amazon's top 100 bestsellers on kindle for today(or any day really.) On a personal note, my grandmother, mother, my friend Tim and I all went to see Troy in theaters just because we heard Brad Pitt's luscious bum would be on screen in all it's glory. (Worth the $40.)

Gaming conventions are predominantly attended by heterosexual males. Therefore having a beautiful woman sell something works really well. But the same is true for a gorgeous guy at say, a 50 Shades con.

As for the "touring questions," I find them to be a catch 22. I shouldn't have to prove myself in the first place...but if someone wants to ask me a question, shouldn't it be because they are interested in what I have to say? I find it immensely amusing when a person accuses me of feigning interest in gaming and then tries to prove that by...feigning interest in my opinions about games.

OT: I laughed the whole way through the video. Where do they sell those belt buckles? Going to buy a few for gifts; that way I have an excuse to look down :p

This video is clearly bullshit.

Are you trying to say that Jonathan "Hot Scoops" Holmes has no talent?!

Shame on you, Jim!
The issue with Jonathan Holmes, star of the hit program "Soda Baby" is that he seems to want to bring up video games at the most inappropriate times just to try to show off. It's like, you're listening to a wonderful bout of life advice or some brilliant plan for a film and he just HAS to bring up video games because he runs around playing them in a tight shirt. It's just obnoxious and offends me personally.

Watching this episode made me realise (and instantly be ashamed of) how defensive I am of my position as a "proper" gamer and nerd.

...I think I need to have a long hard think about what I've become.

So, satirize a legitimate concern to delegitimize the people who hold it. Typical propaganda tactic, but you'd have to be a fool not to recognize it for what it is. Don't let this inane misdirection catch you off guard, fellow real gamers. We fight the good fight. Phonies will be called out and ostracized. Deal with it.
Where do I get my Official Nerd stamp/tattoo/passport?
It sure would be easier to be instantly recognisable as one of the True Gamers.

And I notice my male friends are not getting the Nerdish Inquisition, is there some sort of delay for them?
Somebody should be quizzing these guys.
You missed the great pokekid debate? or the 3.0 wars (blood was spilled) or TSR versus White Wolf?

I really don't get the whole "we're all gamers, everyone hold hands and sing" mentality. This isn't a Dr. Seuss book, it seems like we should be allowed to make distinctions between people who clearly have different interests from one another, it's not a bad thing. It just seems like the person who actually enjoys the medium, blogs about it and/or (at least) goes to the escapist to talk about it is a much different person then the individual who only plays Angry Birds on their phone to pass time in waiting rooms, or the guy who only plays the newest CoD because "Fuck yur Amurrrrrica" is going through his head 24/7. It just seems like the term "gamer" should denote some sort of genuine interest in games? It's not like it's hard, or this is an exclusive club or something. It's something everyone is fully capable of doing and being part of, they just choose not to.

The one thing that still puzzles me about the whole Fake Girl Gamer thing is why people are so sure this happens. The rationale seems to be that attractive girls will pretend to enjoy things they don't, just to get male attention.

Because this is the only way for an attractive girl to get attention, obviously.

Maybe it's my lack of understanding regarding the fairer sex, but it seems to me that there are probably easier ways than faking an entire hobby, if all you're after is attention. It's quite egotistical when you think about it, that the people who rage loudest about the supposed phenomena are so sure that women want their attention, sure enough that they believe women are willing to pretend to be what they aren't just to earn their interest.
Gamers are outcasts, or were, they built an enclave

Now Cute Girl comes along, I mean does her her, lipstick absolute pinnacle of trendy cute.
This is Not An OutCast, what the hell is she doing here and why?
Its the same thing as Samus Aran a player avatar getting all this attention because she's a female with a gun while simultaneous we have this thing about gamers misrepresenting strong independent women.

Not only is she not an Outcast but she can leave at any time. Maybe she's just looking good AND nerdy. So you ask just to be safe/sure.

Only this keeps happening And there have been big women in fandom for YEARS. Its insulting and prejudiced.

I could do all that... Or I could... Ya know... Play video games. Something that I enjoy doing.

Personally, I think if you give the performance of a lfetime that he gave in V For Vendetta 2: D For Deep Dicking, you're allowed to talk a tiny little bit about video games, every now and again.

I mean, this poster is beautiful but it doesn't convey even an iota of the sort of performance that they man who would be Freaky Constantina gave.

The trailer only helps a little more
