I knew it! They ARE real! Now to see if Abstergo exists! *Looks around for job applications*

OT: Stupid people trying to ban something for stupid reasons. The only reason they even made the news is becuase they have a silly name.

You know, when I read the title I thought they wanted Assassin's Creed banhammered because it portrayed them in a negative light. :L Although they probably realised that would be even worse if they got that banned. :p

Here's a question for these 'Templars'.
Why not use the name Teutonic? It's pretty much the same thing, except GERMAN.

I get the feeling they didn't think it through enough. Hopefully that'll make them fail more quickly.

Sure Knights Templar, we'll ban violent video games because they apparently cause so much damage to the development of children that play them.
Speaking of development damage, do you wanna tell me about the Crusades? I'm sure you have a compelling argument as to why killing all those people was a good idea.

Oop. Time to dust off this old argument again.
*ahem*
Oh yes, let's band the bad games instead of having parents do their jobs of parenting their kids.
This argument is older than time itself.

...Well then. I'm not entirely sure how to take this sort of thing. It seems funny for one of the most powerful and secretive religious military orders in Medieval Europe to resurface in 2011 I know it's not the actual order, just a group using the name as a group of people whining about violent video games, which is kind of funny considering the whole Crusades business. It's sort of like if the Knights of the Round Table (I know they're probably fictional) resurfaced and started telling people not to buy canned tuna that isn't labeled dolphin-safe.

HehehhehehHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAAAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHHA!
OH GOD, THE LAUGHING, IT HURTS!

Hoo... ok... done for a moment. So, I guess Assassin's Creed hit a little to close to the truth, huh? Guess they don't like us figuring out the truth?

Ok, gonna go laugh some more. HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

...But...First off THE KNIGHTS TEMPLAR are still around!? Are they under the guise of abstergo industries? Secondly aren't knights notorious for being violent chappys, I seem to remember them being one of the reasons the crusaders states collapsed, because they were so battle hungry. And finally...THE KNIGHTS TEMPLAR, I'll just be over there looking for santa.
The Grand Priories are to the templars is what SCEA is to Sony: A hollow proxy based solely in another country for law dickery. The fact that most of them sill exist just proves the Pope right about disbanding them for being loophole abusing moneygrubbers.

What exactly qualifies as a 'positive game' ? Chess? Why don`t they try to ban TV or books, since 80% of the media has adult themes.

Why...? That's about 90% of games gone, and most of the god ones with it!!! Poor, poor Germans.

The organisation in question is not linked to, nor does it claim any descent from the original order founded back during the crusades. It was formed in 1805.

The real Knights Templar were disbanded in France, but were never suppressed in other countries. Instead, they were absorbed into other orders, such as the Hospitaller Order of St John, due to the loss of papal support.

Huh. Well, the more you know. If you can suggest a more accurate translation I'd be happy to use it, but for the moment I'll just cut it out :)
Well, "Knights Templar" works just fine and so is the rest of the article.
But that Bundestag thing was just really weird for me.
Kind of like reading that the Blackbeard Pirates House of Commons has just demanded a more aggresive stance against illegal immigrants.

These aren't the real Templars.

They are a private organisation, german law calls them Verein. Which basically means "Group of people" They Are NOT in any way a knight order. Not more than your local larp circle.

Resulting from this, this News has absolutely no more content than "Group of germans bitches about video games"

Hint: Don't use google translation for News.

Edit: Here is a more accuarte translation of what happened:

The Verein put the paper to the hands of the parlamentian (Bundestagsabgeordneter) that is resoponsible for the part of Germany they live in. That guy basically said:
"Okay, we will work it over and see if we can get support for your notion. I put it on my "to do pile". We will respond to it in 2012"

The fact that they still exist confounds me...Can't the pope like disband them again. I personally don't know much about templars other than what I've learnt in college and we were focused on crusades, so I'm wondering why they were disbanded in the first place, TO WIKIPEDIA!
