Heres the thing: Games aren't for children. the only argument people seem to have for banning games is "The children will get hurt" If you're that concerned, don't let your kids play, don't ruin it for the rest of us!

Just to answer everyone who asked: YES the knights templar are still around and have been for hundreds of years! The reason why you haven't heard of them is because their a secret society and don't constantly try to take over the world. They have ties to (but are not the same as) the freemasons (another harmless secret order).

These guys do not represent the order as a whole, and I don't really know why they've bothered bringing this up; it's nothing like what they usually discuss.

If anyone has any questions relating to (modern day) templars or freemasons, I think I might be able to help.

its not the same templars as the ones that were disbanded... the masons have an off shoot organization that is strictly for christians called the templars... there are probably a few dozen organizations that have taken the name since...

the real templars were disbanded by the Pope.

Irony Corner: Germany, really? Because if High School history serves me right their big problems start when they ban and burn things, you know books, paintings... and their problem has traditionally been with well behaved disciplined children marching around and taking orders... no? Let's ask the neighbors?

Knights Templar popping up isn't really that surprising, they're just a group of regular people. Like the Freemasons.

What? I can see what you are talking about with the violence, but covering up the time of national-socialism and Hitler? Believe me, for about the last 50 years, Germany has done exactly the opposite.

OT: So it's a religious organisation trying to ban games with "negative content"? Nothing new here. The only difference is, that our religious anti gaming advocates have slightly longer and much more fancy names.

All joking aside, there isn't much to this. This templar group (actually just a local chapter of an international organisation calling themselves Knights Templar) submitted the concept for a law through their local representative in the Bundestag to the committee that deals with everything related to the internet and digital media. Doesn't mean we'll be much closer to banning violent games than ever before, not that this should be of much comfort to the German gamers.

Your comment makes me facedesk. Please tell me that's an attempt at irony.

OT: ... Awesome. Just what we needed.
Let's hope our elected officials use common sense and treat this like the mad scribblings of tinfoil-hat-wearing luddites that it is.

I seriously Monocle'd when I read the title. I thought it was just a joke. A cult whom only refers to themselves as the Templars, speaking out against violent video games.

Now I see why Altair hated them with such a passion. I'm going to actually go through the game and kill them all for once...

actually after ww2 you could find nazis in virtually every public institution in Germany, Politics, Police, justice system even the intelligence agencies tasked with catching nazis had nazis in them(which may or may not have something to do with the facts that they didn't do a very good job.)
Germany and countries who occupied it at the time had a choice: either prosecute everyone who did something wrong or let the country rebuild. And because the US used Germany as a poster boy for just how well capitalism works they decided that rebuilding was more important.

so now to get a hidden blade and last years Halloween costume...

Here's a question for these 'Templars'.
Why not use the name Teutonic? It's pretty much the same thing, except GERMAN.

I get the feeling they didn't think it through enough. Hopefully that'll make them fail more quickly.
Isn't that kinda like Bethesda changing its name to "Bioware" because both are video-game companies that makes RPGs?
