L4D: Why is Zoey a better character than Rochelle?

What the hell are you talking about? Zoey had lots of personality. She constantly tried to keep morale up by cracking lame jokes and sarcastic remarks, and she seems to connect with the other characters a lot. But even if she is a bit more shallow than Rochelle, she's still a better character in that Rochelle is completely unlikable. I can't really explain my main issue with her. She has that kind of useless self centered "do things my way even though I know fuck all about anything" quality about her that kind of pisses me off.

Though honestly the whole cast of L4D2 isn't as good as L4D1. Coach is that perfect combination of badass and comic relief that pretty much all the characters in the first game had, so I suppose he's the exception. Nick is cool but that's really his only characteristic so he isn't very fun, Ellis is a dumbass, and Rochelle is annoying.
That's what makes Ellis an awesome character, though. Listen to one of his "I remember this one time..." lines and if you have any sense of humor at all you'll piss yourself. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he's hilarious.

But yeah, I agree with you. L4D's cast is better than L4D2. Coach is exactly like Bill except slightly funnier, Nick is a dick, and Rochelle is, as you said, annoying.

I actually think Rochelle and Coach are ... pretty non-stereotypical, to be honest.

Just watch about a minute of that video...
And? He sounds like an older black man who grew up in a Southern city would, to me. Just because a Southerner - for example - says "y'all" doesn't automatically make them a stereotype; that's what they actually say.

Coach just won me over during the finale of Dark Carnival when he started singing along to the song, personally.

Well I grew up in the South and currently live in the South and I don't say y'all or sound like that at all. I don't sound like Ellis either. To me, it seems like they only know what they've seen on TV because just about everyone in the game has a very thick accent, whether it be Ellis, Coach, or that guy that drives the boat. I personally think Coach is hilarious, but he's a bit too stereotypical... "Y'all be shootin' my ass," and stuff like that. It just struck me as a stereotype, but I could be wrong.

No she doesn't.
See, that's all your post says to me. I've provided 7 good reasons and you've just answered with "No, she doesn't". I'm afraid I can't really argue with flat out denials.
Perhaps I said that because your statements were not accurate? People constantly embellish Zoey with qualities she did not have.
Opinions are rarely accurate. They're rarely wrong though.

I never realy thought Rochelle as abitch, she seemed quite "motherly" when i played. She does treat Ellis like a 12 year old child, and she talks like a mother handing out apple pie when she heals you.

Is it just me?
Thats my thought as well. Zoey seemed like the chick your best friends with and want to go further but she doesn't feel the same. Rochelle, your mother.

well, I grew up in the south, live there too. Where I live, some people do sounds like that, so not that big of a stereotype. Also they in New Orleans, right?, From what I understand accents are fairly strong there.

EDIT: double post, sorry.

I lack a decent reason for prefering Zoey over Rochelle, I just do. But I'm going to attempt to justify it anyway.

For me it's that Rochelle is mute for alot of the game, where her mouth is open she's either screaming to the point where my ears hurt, or being a *****.

Zoey made me chuckle from time to time, and as such I find her to be more endearing.

My reason is weaker than a paper towel.

Because Zoey cracks the occasional joke that isn't terrible, and I've almost never hear Rochelle say a damn thing! Besides, Zoey calls Zombie Bullshit, making her great.

She's black. She's...uh...

Oh, right. She's always either being a ***** or being annoying, while Zoey is much cooler and sometimes says funny things and she's not black.

Why do I hate Rochelle? Here's a couple reasons:

"Son of a bee sting!"

"Axe me a question. I dare you"

P.S. Oh, and she's ugly.

Zoey is EFFING Zoey, the loveable female zombie shooter that takes pleasure in killing the bastards

Rochelle is a black female... who at times complains on how hard things are... like we didn't get enough of that from 14 year olds with mics

PS: Not to mention over-used "black" jokes... "Oh no you di-in't" for one..

Nick makes a better Francis though, just saying (and I effing loved Francis)

Doesn't matter to me, I am always Ellis.
Glad to see we share the same view on that. He's by far the most likeable of the new characters.

As for the topic, I don't know, I just found Zoey to be a more likeable character.

Ellis kicks ass though.

Coach/Louis=Me
Nick/Francis=Ozzy
Ellis/Bill=Deanie
Rochelle/Zoe=Marcus/Woodze

Thats our setup. Every game. No bickering. I dont know any of the characters as their developer-given persona's, I know them as my 4/5 real life L4D mates.

I know when "nick" is getting torn up by a hunter it's because Ozzy wasn't paying attention, I know when a tank spawns and "Rochelle" inevitably gets incapped it's because Mark/Woodze came over all rambo, I know when "Ellis" picks up a hunting rifle were all going to be shouting at Deanie and his bad habit of popping us in the head accidentally and we all know when a grenade launcher shows up, it's got Coach's name on it.

For people to develop such strong emotions towards characters in a game like L4D boggles my mind (mainly talking about this very subject of such hate towards Rochelle/love for Zeo).

I only go for Zoey because she looks more like me than Rochelle and we both love zombie movies. ^--^

Though I'm sure this has been said before, Rochelle has the personality of a banana slug, Zoey actually had a personality and was humorous.
