Normally, I'd say why bother trying to fix what's beyond repair.

But in this case, it's more like trying to fix something by beating it with a sizable stone and submerging it in water.

Luckily, Steam is probably the best spot for your non-casual gamer. All Valve needs to work on is the bloody offline mode that makes it so damn inconvenient to play a game when your Internet goes out.

I think I just became a mac gamer. Shame, I was really looking forward to getting back into PC gaming but this has put me off slightly....

Most of it is innocuous- so they're trying to get women into gaming more, and expand their casual appeal. That's all well and good.

I don't think Microsoft is going to have much affect on PC gaming as a whole- you don't have to use Games for Window Live- or whatever they're calling it.

Actually, the only part of the video you didnt malign is the part I find scary: micro-transactions, ug.

Are you guys deaf? Did you not HEAR how optimistic that background music was? The future for PC gaming is obviously bright

I don't see what's so horrible about it. So we're not the demographic, who cares? There are a thousand things that obviously were never designed for me.
Pretty much my feelings on this. Plus if it works like they show it then I'd try it out just to be able to connect with Xbox friends when they're on the PC.

Lulz at the bandwagonning...

This seems pretty useless, although I lost most of my respect for Xbox avatars when I tried to make one for my younger sister, only to find it was impossible to make a female one without breasts. Thanks alot Microsoft, I guess you really were telling the truth on all those "for the whole family" TV adverts you kept throwing at me. [/sarcasm]

Getting back on topic though, I can't see who this is to appeal to. As has been said before, the more dedicated gamers will already have either a console or an effective PC games platform such as Steam, and those who are very casual will be happy to stick with Facebook and free games sites. In my opinion this is aiming for a demographe that doesn't really exist (at-least not in sufficient numbers).

Hey Look! Microsoft wants to turn the PC into the Xbox! I'll be busy using steam, thank you very much.

tbh, mocrosoft has no real say in the market right now. they're ovbiously targeting the casual crowd, and they probably don't have xboxes (it could have changed with the kinect), the majority of xbox supporters arent the "casual crowd", and pc gaming is really only supported by windows os and steam, not gfwl yet, so to me it looks like they are trying to create their own "wii phenomenon"

(this would be a whole oher stoty is the wii strted to hook up to facebook and farmville, thought)

I thought it was pretty unintentionally funny when they said, 'Buying things makes everything better!' I mean really now.

try playing a legitimate copy of dead rising of bulletstorm, you NEED an account to play them and MS could easly force users on their ouwn version of steam that they selfproclaimed the future of gaming when it onyl showed things that have been done and it seems that MS was able to merge all the bad things a common pc gamer feared into one dark abyss they call future

MS is late for the party and if they want a good share of this while competing with steam or D2D they have to inovate not bring a clone of Xbox tot he pc

I do not harbour any hostile feeling towards homosexual humans, nor do I want to imply that this video has homosexual feelings, but the only thing I feel I can say about this is "that's gay.".

Just waiting for the Elder Scrolls game or Wizards of the Coast RPG where you can port your avatar directly into the game.

brb, cutting myself.
o_O your avatar....makes no sense...how does the hand look like that?
Here. Maybe this will help.

OT though: I'm not the target audience. I don't think any of us are. So no wonder it's getting a lot of flak here. Maybe we should ask some non-gamer groups (because if you think about it, not a lot of that is purely gaming).
