Damn right shame too, means no-one will buy the next gen of consoles.
Never underestimate the power of marketing. People will jump at the opportunity to shower M$ and Sony with money when the next-gen hits the market. Even though next-gen will continue to decrease consumer rights.

Unless there's another global economic collapse creeping around. Then no one will buy anything. PC included.

I just don't understand why people have to fight over such trivialities. It's not just console vs PC, it's Xbox 360 vs PS3. It's iPhone vs Samsung Galaxy etc. And in PC world it's Intel vs AMD and AMD vs Nvidia. It doesn't make any sense. Just get whatever you prefer/can afford and relax. You don't owe your loyalty to a fuckin' corporation. What kind of fucked up mindset is that?

I've said this on the site before, but I'd honestly have no problem going back and playing Morrowind on Xbox if I had no other choice. Overhaul is fucking amazing, but Morrowind doesn't need it to be good imo XD

Story time!

The year, 199x, my family had just gotten their first gaming pc. oh how happy we were.
Yes, we were clueless about the specs and hardware, but everything was great. My brother and I played a lot of Demo's off those 100+ Demo disks that were sold. And sometimes, when we had the money, we bought a full game!
A full game!
The hours I spend on GTA II, Warcraft 2, Duke Nukem 3D and whatnot. Usually doing the first levels over and over, because we had no idea how to actually play.

But I digress.
Being total techno noobs, we assumed this wonder would last forever.
Then IT happened. The Dreaded IT.
Games progressed, our PC did not. in fact, I think it was save to say it was full of bugs by this time.
New games, bought with what could easily be our souls, didn't work.
That big green box of Turok, it just wouldn't run.
The sound was there, the title screen showed up. But the picture didn't change.
And that Morrowind game, why did it crash when we left the boat.
The disappointment, the fear of coming home with a game that "didn't work" was deep and scarring.

Until I learned of my friends' Nintendo 64.
It always works, you say.
Just put the game in and turn it on, you say?
No installation?

And from that moment on, I preferred the consoles.
Now, these days I am savvy enough to know what goes wrong, and how to fix a "broken" game.
I have both an impressive library of console and pc games.
But in the end, I usually end up buying the console version of a new game.

Yeah, I could run Borderlands 2 on the pc.
Yeah it's cheaper on the pc.
But I got the Xbox version. Because I know it works.
....and my friends got that version.

I don't care about my PC graphics, I just like the ability to put in mods and tweak the game as I see fit.

Also, a lot of indie titles are on the PCs.

I also like the crazy Steam sales.
This, I'm a PC gamer who's PC is actually a bit worse than a console.

My reasons for choosing PC

1. Mouse and keyboard.
2. Everything I need's in one place.
3. Larger gaming library, indie titles, emulation.
4. Mods, tweaking, all that fun stuff.
5. Graphics

You know what I think the problem is OP? You're part of a shining minority in the console crowd that most gamers fail to acknowledge. Most of your console brethren deserve the ire you feel is directed at you. You know, the ones that are racists, or have more money than sense, because learning to use a PC is too much work or something in 2012.

I have a friend who sounds just like you. He works 50 hour weeks generally, and so that leaves him with little time to fool around with those occasional problems PCs do have. He wants his console to just work, as do you, and that is all he needs. There's nothing wrong with people who feel that way about consoles, so there is nothing wrong with you.

I'm a hard-core PC fanatic by the way.
'Console Bretheren'?

Please, for the love of God will you people stop acting like this is some kind of good vs evil war bullshit.

And to all the 'true' PC gamers posting on this thread,
I'm sorry if someone cant afford to build from scratch a top of the range gaming tower with Nvidia Quadro graphics card, Cooler Master stainless steel gaming case, 3rd gen processor, wireless mouse and keyboard, 8GB of memory, 1TB hard drive and built-in surround sound, so they have to settle for an outdated machine that has about 1/10 the power of a PC, but I guess that makes them a cancer on the industry, oh well.

And yes, there is something wrong with you if you constantly *****, and whine, and moan about what flavour of platform, PC or console that someone prefers, and act like your being repressed, only to completely prove their point.
If they're having fun with whatever platform they own, who really cares?

And I play PC gamees about 80-90% of the time.

Both sides are as bad as each other, no one is better. It's all up to personal preference and what games you want, why can't we all just get along?

Seriously, all the problems in the world and yet people still bicker about this, I've never understood it. I recently got into PC gaming, but I am also still a console gamer. Each side has advantages and disadvantages, different games and sometimes different ways of entertaining.

It's all entertainment in the end, so as long as you enjoy what you play, what system it is on does not matter.

If anyone calls you "stupid" or "not a true gamer" or a "bad person" or any other damn thing because of your platform of choice then they've obviously got their head stuck so far up their own ass it's a wonder they don't choke on it. Pay them no mind.

Is PC gaming better?
Yes.
Is it because of graphics? No.
Are you not a true gamer if you don't play on pc? No.
PC is better because you don't have to go out and get a game, you can just buy it off steam.
Speaking of steam, you can get awesome deals on it, like Elder Scrolls 3-5+all dlc for only 50 bucks.

Who cares if you game on a console or PC? I game on both, mainly because Steam is easy to use and I have older games on it that still work, and I have a PS3 for a bunch of other games, because I feel that they play better on a controller (And I can't get my PS3 or my old 360 controller to work with my PC.)

Also a lot of people who claim to be PC Gamers end up making me feel sick with the amount of money they spend on PC parts. One of my friends recently upgraded from:

Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT
4 gig RAM
3.6gig Dual Core processor

Which now you could get for like $400 and play 90% of games from this gen with no problem, just not on ultra high settings.

to

2x Nvidia Geforce 540
16 gig RAM
3.2 gig Quad Core processor

Which cost him a total of $3000 (He had to get a new motherboard too). I could see the processor upgrade, but two graphics cards and 12 gigs more ram is overkill.

Does anyone feel the same? (likely its a majority of PC gamers on this site)
The vast majority of people(including those on this site) use both PC and Consoles. The PC exclusive players tend to be a very vocal minority though.

VeneratedWulfen93 said:
Does anyone completely and utterly disagree with me?
Yes, both for the reason that the vast majority isn't PC exclusive players and for the reason that it makes way more sense to use PCs. They are more efficient in every way, and the more people who use them the more efficient they will become. And because the PC is basically run on an open format they will become better in every way. Consoles however are run on a very specific set of guidelines for what they are supposed to be doing, and thus if we favor them over PCs they will only become more powerful in very restricted and limited ways.

It likely will never happen that people will switch to PCs though. Companies get more money with consoles both from their customers(the more competition in one sector the lower the prices become more people are making hardware/games for that typeset) and from developers(you have to buy a license to develop for something like xbox or PS3, whereas PC is free to develop for.) So as long as people keep buying it there is an economic incentive for those companies that control the consoles to keep people using them at the expense of the consumer and of developers.

My home PC is downstairs and I'd have to build one myself...which isn't gonna happen because I play 40k and that is ridiculously expensive.
Pretty much everyone is going to own a PC anyways. Piggybacking on that initial cost to simply get some better hardware actually makes it the cheaper option than owning a run of the mill PC and a console. Also if you only play warhammer with friends(which is what I do) you might try just cutting up pieces of paper into squares(or circles) and labeling them. That's what I do because I'm super ghetto and didn't want to buy the overpriced models.

VeneratedWulfen93 said:
Is that the plan? Beat down console gamers until they can't take it and buy PC?
Yes and no. My plan is more to inform people of the reasons why PCs are the superior option economically and functionally.

Fixed that for you. Seriously, the vast majority of people who own a console are...

Wait for it........

People who own a console.

And that's it. The only common theme is that we all own a console, not that we're racist, or homophobic, or stupid, or anything else.

Jeez, I wonder WHY they bash you so very hard about having a seriously inferior, overpriced, inconvenient, technologically obsolete and locked down system.

And just so that you're aware, if you're not already:
Consoles are the cause for all the bad things in the industry. Not for the industry mind you, but in the industry. What we game-playing folk want.

TL;DR: Fuck consoles.
Gotta love it when someone comes along and proves the OP's point.

It's so very delicious.

OT: As with every following, there are extremists, so to say. Just ignore them.
Indeed, indeed. But they could at least get some class and not be ass hats about it eh.

You're taking this way too personal. Just because people criticize your gaming platform of choice, doesn't mean that they're judging you personally.

This is unfair generalization of PC gamers. I am one myself, and yes there is quite a problem with others who insist that consoles are absolute shite, but you can't just up and tell us all that we are frothing at the mouth because some people opt to use consoles. Heck, I only play games like Skyrim on my Ps3 due to the intuitive control layout as opposed to the clunky PC controls. Again, don't just insult us all, it is only a part of the PC gamers that make up the angry elitist group.

I pay 200-300 bucks for my consoles. No superior PC has been able to match that price without going through some insane amounts of auction dice rolling and very limited time sales.
1) Do you own a PC? What did that cost? Whats the cost differential because you're going to own a PC either way, only I will only have a PC and you will buy both a PC and a console.

2) You said "consoles" Do you own multiple consoles? A PC is able to effectively emulate multiple consoles and thus has no need for multiple systems. Add in that cost as well.

3) Because as I mentioned before developing for consoles requires buying a license to do so, development costs are increased. Which is a buck they pass on to you by raising game prices. Your only respite from this is selling games back/buying used. Which is a practice that is being ended with locks on next-gen consoles.

4) Steam sales allow you to get games for extremely cheap a few months after release.

5) How often do you buy a new consoles my PCs generally cost about 750-850$ to create a full new PC which will last me about 5 years before it can't handle new games on good settings. With my last computer I did have to buy a new Mobo for 11$ on ebay.

6) I don't actually bother with this, but I know people who do. You can buy a PC GPU with an unlimited warranty. Wait like 7 or 8 months then break it purposefully with overclocking. Return it to the manufacturer and they will upgrade it with a similarly powerful GPU. However they usually round up as it were and give you a slightly better one. You can keep doing this ad-infinitum if you're a jerk and want to basically steal from the manufacturers.
