As many of you probably don't know (seeing hoe this is a gaming site) Lego is ending the highly popular Bionicle toy line. And without a big send off either. After some thinking, I've come to the conclusion that the marketing directors at lego are idiots. Why in hell would they throw out one of their most popular series? It makes no sense. Anyone care to elaborate?

Oh man... I remember Bionicle... I played the Video game (not bad considering I was like what? 10? 9?) and I had those cool lego guys that would roll up in a ball...

Best. Action Figures. Ever.

Hell, I think even today I'd be able to play with them, as they are truly awesome little things.

Maybe it's because they are afraid of money?Possibly they feel they have enough money? I don't know, because they feel like it?

Aw, but I actually liked Bionicles a bit. I remember when I was little I would go to Legoland and go to the Bionicle section to make my own creations. I have seen what the new ones looked liked and I could tell that they had probably run out of new Bionicle ideas. Still that is a shame though.

I liked Bionicle at the start. It was amazing. I had all the Toas, and I followed the stories with the free Lego Comics every month and they had a point and click game online that they updated sometimes. I loved it so much.

But then they kept releasing new things and it just got to be too much. I wish they'd ended it with the killing of Makuta back when it was the originals.

Pfft. Bionicle was pretty shite to be honest.

I mean, it had a pretty cool backstory, but it became pretty clear they were milking it for all it was worth. The models were not fun to make, and weren't very interesting or fun to play with once made.

Real LEGO will always outshine them. It's just so versatile, so fun to make and just... awesome. Easily my favorite childhood toy. I'm almost tempted to get all my Lego out and play with it when I go home this weekend :p

Hey, if they feel that it isn't representing the Lego name well enough I say drop it like it's hot. They are the most amazing plastic brick company in the world after all.

Though that's probably not saying THAT much.

Ehhh, was never impressed by Bionicle. Seemed too KNEX rather than Lego.

It just dawned on my that this desk needs more Lego, my old one had like three minifigs.

I never liked Bionicle. The storyline behind it was ridiculous, and the commercials made me laugh, even when I was 10. I only really ever liked the vehicle/city line of Lego.

Used to like Bionicle, but I sadly grew out of it. I had no complete sets, just a schoolbag full of random pieces which I hardly ever used as directed.

But I did have that completely awesome hawk thingy...

I had mountains of Legos but never had any Bionicles. Honestly, I'm surprised they lasted this long.

Aww, I loved Bionicles. My username on the LEGO forums (which was my first forum too) was BionicleOverlord.

Now I might have to build some mighty Bionicle to commemorate their ending.

Just found this:

"Beginning in summer 2010, The LEGO Group will debut a new, more flexible buildable figure property created by the same people who brought you BIONICLE. At the same time, we are also expanding the category to appeal to a younger audience through an established third-party property, starting in January."

So basically, they've stopped milking Bionicle, and will start a new series of LEGO action figures.

COOL!

I have a big green bag of assembled bionicles right beside me. I loved them, then I realised Warhammer 40k was a much cooler hobby if I wanted to play with toy soldiers :)

I rarely see anything bionicle, even ads. I've never seen a kid with one and in stores I've only ever seen full displays never any taken (I guess they could be replaced but that would harm selling, people dislike disrupting perfectly ordered systems, a few taken out in places would make it uneven and draw attention).
