I know many: some of them are just like straight girls, but the ones who are different tend to:

-like piercings and tattoos
-have short hair, mohawk or constantly redying/cutting it
-enjoy violence and horror films
-enjoy drinking
-swear more often than straight girls

I'm bi myself, and other than the hair thing (I keep it long for headbanging), I fit all of these as well (which is why I get along so well with lesbians).

I think the typical Lesbian Stereotype is very short hair (1/2 - 1 inch), lots of tattoos, somewhat muscly, deep voice, and acts like guys.
Fixed... At least, that's the one I've heard of.

I thought the sterotype is that they happen to walk infront of cameras alot.
BUUZING!

Nah, I never actually heard of any stereotypes outside of the butch/lipstick variety.

As far as stereotypes go I tend to think that if we're talking about people, whether they fall into groups or not, come in many different colours and varieties and categorizing them isn't worth the time. This applies to blacks, whites, browns, other browns, lighter browns, nerds, jocks, kids, teens, adults, dolts, gay, straight, and all the other groups I can't be arsed to type out regardless of how much fun it would be. Basically, we're all people, why are we talking about each other like we're different species?

That spoiler made me laugh the louder then I had all this week. After watching that South Park episode, every time a see a biker ride by I mutter "Fag."
OT. I think there are two lesbian steriotypes: first the ugly/manly one, and second, the hot-pornstar sterotype. I really doubt that either of these steriotypes exist, except in exceptional cases (super redundant there, I know. Still, the world is wide and I don't want to say that something is totally impossible.)

Opps, I forgot to quote. The first part was a response to Hubilub's original post with the South Park biker spoiler.

So the gay stereotype is well known (i guess), but how about a stereotype for lesbians?
I live in the same house as 2, and i don't really notice much difference from straight women.
This is not meant offensively in any way
Which stereotype?

lipstick lesbian: pretty, pink, girly and almost indistinguishable from straight girls

butch: more manly than girly, but still essentially womanly if perhaps a take more aggressive than generally considered "normal" for women

dyke: "hard core" lesbian (not sure if that one will hit the censor filter)

bulldyke: (NOT BEING USED IN AN INSULTING WAY NONE OF THESE ARE) extremely manly, the polar opposite to a lipstick lesbian.

There's alot more than that . . . quite honestly there's as many stereotypes on lesbians as there are gay guys, straight women, straight men, boys, girls, old people, young ones, nerds, jocks, anyone . . . there's probably at least 30 stereotypes that could describe me at any time depending on what a person sees when they meet me at first. Stereotypes are simply that, stereotypes, they're not by ANY stretch meant to be the end all. They're not even fully correct in any situation as no stereotype describes all of a person all of the time

I thought the general stereotype was that there is a feminine and a masculine woman in each relationship.

Not that this should be necessary given the context but: I am aware that this is frequently not the case. Hence why I said it was the stereotype.
It's interesting to know why this stereotype is inaccurate though; too often, heterosexual people assume that non-heterosexuals still inhabit the heteronormative gender binary of masculine and feminine.

It's also why heterosexuals think there has to be a "masculine" gay man and a "feminine" gay man in a relationship.

I'm not sure if it's a stereotype because from what I have seen, it's true.
A lot of lesbians (in my area, anyway) are fat. Obese, really, and are just man-haters.

The Bi-sexuals, however, are incredibly attractive.

It's a shame anecdotal experience doesn't count for valid data.

Which one of us is right?

I think there is the general stereotype that people have of lesbians, which is probably a holdover from the days of fear mongering about how we are evil and were coming to take away your women. Another stereotype (at least on t.v) is that all we want is to have babies. Lots and lots of babies.
I can somewhat understand the "take away the women" part, but I really see no logic in the baby thing. Especially the way you put it... Who comes up with these things =p

I thought it was that lesbians tend to be tomboy-ish; you know, girls who are comfortable in trackpants, drink beer, punch you in the arm and are generally great mates. Maybe this is just my stereotype... This is an issue for me, because I find that very attractive... :(

Oh if only I were a lady... *stares off into the distance*
I second that notion. Tomboyish girls are awesome.
I third that notion. While I still love girly (although not too girly) girls, tomboyish girls have a certain charm to them.
Agreed.

Which is odd, because I like my girls manly, and my men girly.
Except if they start calling things fabulous and holding parades.

Terrible.

No need to be so butthurt about it. I'm just giving my viewpoints on the encounters I've had with the lesbian culture. If you don't like it, why don't you cry about it?

What part of my post makes you think I'm butthurt or crying about it?

There is no need to needlessly escalate just because you perceive I'm attacking you (I'm not).

I know a bunch of lesbians:

Butch lesbians - small in height, piercings, tattoos, deep voice, short (usually) spiky hair, manly interests.

lipstick lesbians - really girly, think "pornstars", flirty, etc.

i-can't-believe-it's-not-lesbian - pretty much every lesbian who doesn't fit in with the above two. the one where, if your female friend was to turn around and tell you she was a lesbian, you'd never have guessed. Usually a combination of the above two, though.

I was told that if I was a lesbian, I'd be the third kind. I've got "manly" interests (gaming, airsoft, going to gigs and being right down in the moshpits, whatever), but I rarely look particularly manly. People in school were convinced I was a lesbian for ages, mainly because I was friends with more guys than girls and because guys used to talk to me and say how "amazing" it was that i was into games.

My sincerest apologies then. I've been having a bad week- you know how things go. It was uncalled for to take it out on you. Once again, my apologies.

I'm a girl who likes girls and I have tattoos and piercings

But I also have long hair and I enjoy wearing heels and dresses

but then some days I wear hoodies and jeans

OH GOD WHY CAN'T I JUST DECIDE WHETHER I WANT TO BE A STEREOTYPE OR NOT?

Nah mate, I jest, I jest. That stereotype is bullshit. Lesbians can totally be femme just as gay men can totally be butch. It's all cool! Just fuck who you want and don't bother thinking about how that should make you act.

Outside of porn, the only lesbians I know are really ugly and generally fat. Then again, it is high school, and a lot of the "cute" guys are really shallow so it's possible they turned out of "necessity" I guess. That's just at a glance though, and only counts the openly lesbian and the "LOOK AT US! WE'RE LESBIANS!" that make out in the center of the courtyard.

I guess I must be the only one with a different view of the "Lesbian Stereotype".

One of my closest friends is BiSexual, but she prefers women to men, and she is unbelieveably attractive and friendly, with a generally positive attitude to everything. She doesn't engage in the typical manly activties (Sure, she wants to come to Airsoft with me eventually, but that's beside the point), and she hasn't got short hair.

Another woman I know is a Lesbian, she's a little older than me, but also attractive and, in fact, quite girly.

That is how I have experianced Homosexual/Bisexual Women.
You complete and utter git.

You know women (regardless of orientation) who want to try airsoft.

Fuckin A!!

I am rather jealous of you right now.
Is now a bad time to say that my Girlfriend goes to Airsoft, too? D-=

I'm just going to throw this one out there.

Given that you are talking out High School, where I would imagine that staying under the radar and being part of the crowd is pretty important to a lot of people, is it possible that the people are are "out" are people who already don't fit in with the crowd and don't give a shite if people have something else to throw at them? Which means the truth of who is or is not gay at that stage in life is rather hard to gauge?
