One of these days I will play this game. One day when I'm less intimidated by it. In the meantime this is one of the best series on the Escapist.

Yeah, series. Somehow 'thread' just doesn't sum up how great this is.

So now I have one soldier, who just died of thirst in his bed. One civilian, running around downstairs gibbering to herself, and one remaining dwarven child, just as cracked as the elder. I think I'm done here.
Done?

We need a drawing of your dwarf leading the army, with Stinthad in the background making an "O NOEZ" face.

And the enemy is the ghost of the ghost of Avuz.

Remind me; who is Avuz again? I'd search through the thread, but there's just so many pages.

(And a quick description of the looks wouldn't go amiss)

He's this little **** with dead parents that went crazy and killed some dwarves. Then his ghost came back and beat someone up or something.

We've basically turned him into an in-thread meme.

I'm stuck into Dwarf Fortress forever. @_@

Hannibal's got nothin' on Avuz. Punching wounded soldiers to death at the age of six, then returning from the grave to rip off people's hands.

Started up a new fortress. I thought I might send out my militia to slaughter some boars, get some practice in.
One of my dwarves tackled a boar into a pond and drowned in it. *Head-desk*

Sounds like Dwarf fortress is full of troll science! Burning half of your body off so you feel less pain due to having only half a body? genius!

An obsidian siren doesn't sound too friendly, how dangerous is it?
We call it !!Science!!.

Agreed! Reveredtour's epic already has so many epic moments for fanart. Someone with artsy skills, get on it!

If this LP is still alive around the end of the year I'll hopefully have learned enough Adobe Illustrator skills to do it myself.

if reveredtour dies of lack of interest, I swear to god, I will drag it up from the depths of hell HFS and keep it alive.
if the fort dies, then ah, well, nevermind.

Chapter 92: From the journal of Stinthad Kekimtobul

__________________________________________________

26th Timber, 1057, Late Autumn

Okay, the situation may be more severe than I original thought. There's a bunch of smoke coming up from the forges, and that horrible screaming has gotten louder. I have come to the conclusion that there are two possibilities; there's a massive fire and one of the dwarves has a very impressive set of lungs OR there's some horrible fire monster down there.

Kraken's notes: Obsidian sirens are one of the few creatures that thrives in the magma sea, an area otherwise devoid of life. Though attacks from them are rare, they can usually be quite deadly due not only to the fighting skills of the siren but also their close proximity to magma. Many encounters with them often result in the victim falling into magma, from which there is no escape. Like all sirens, obsidian sirens have razor sharp nails that can cut through unprotected flesh with ease. Their voices are loud and painful, and can even cause paralysis to occur in those who are subjected to hearing them for too long. They are a dangerous foe, particular to the civilians who spend time down in magma forges.

Being a mono-gendered species, obsidian sirens are an evolutionary dead end. However, they usually do not go extinct due to their isolation from civilized species.

I have decided to send the Immortal Rags down to the forges to slay whatever horrible creature has taken up residence there. And if there is no monster and it's just a big fire, I told them to bring along a bucket of water. That should be enough to stop the inferno.

28th Timber, 1057, Late Autumn

So I probably should have made a public announcement about the situation down in the forges. I was trying to avoid stirring up a panic, but the result of this was that Shimmyshake continued to carry out his duties, ignoring the copious amounts of smoke and horrible screaming. I admire his dedication. I'm sure if more forge masters were as dutiful as he is, we would have as mountain of high quality equipment!

Unfortunately this meant he was the first dwarf to discover that there was indeed a strange creature living in the forges. Surprisingly the creature had a distinctively humanoid appearance. Some might think that this meant the creature was somewhat intelligent and could be negotiated with. Shimmyshake, being a pessimist, immediately assumed the opposite and ran away in terror. Luckily the military was right behind him.

Whether or not the creature could have been talked to is a mystery, for as soon as the soldiers saw it they greeted it with classic dwarven diplomacy.

So not only are there monsters lurking in the magma sea, but it seems like they can somehow enter the fort through the magma forges. This is quite a disturbing revelation, but I'm not sure what I can do about it. I'm just going to ignore it and hope it won't be an issue again!

1st Moonstone, 1057, Early Winter

OH MY GOD I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!!!!

Evidently, we are NOT just some crummy little backwater colony anymore! We're getting a promotion! Or whatever the colony equivalent of promotion is called. Actually come to think of it I'm not entirely sure what this entails. The liaison said we still fall out of the jurisdiction of the Relieved Craft's law since we're in the middle of a wasteland. All that's really changed is someone is going to be given the status of baron.

Is it wrong to recommend myself? I feel like I've earned this. I mean, I have been the incumbent mayor in every single election we've run since the first. Obviously I should be the one to assume a position among the nobles. Plus my dad was a noble! Yeah this makes perfect sense.

5th, Moonstone, 1057, Early Winter

Engarde finished her artifact today. She'd been working on it for quite a long time, so I figured it must be something impressive. And it's...well... I guess it is impressive.

Impressive because she managed to carve all these detailed images onto a single cup.

Couldn't it be images commemorating our victory against the goblins rather than just another series of dead elves?

10th Moonstone, 1057, Early Winter

Well, it's official! Reveredtour has officially become a barony of the Relieved Craft!

And I'm the baroness! That's a fancy title. I like it a lot more than mayor. I'm not sure exactly what this position entails, other than meeting with liaisons and other formal stuff. I already did that stuff anyways.

I'd say my personal possessions are already fitting of a proper noble. Dad had a really fancy tomb though. I'm not sure why it's important for nobles to have high class coffins and entire rooms dedicated to their own body. I guess I should too though.

Part of me has to wonder if we only got this upgrade because I started a small adamantine mining operation. Speaking of which, the crafters have refined that adamantine into workable strands. Not entirely sure what I should do with it yet.

Anyways, my first action as baroness is to take an official royal break. I know the merchants still need to be dealt with but it's not like it will be hard for someone to do that for me. You just trade the crafts for the booze and whatever else we need at the moment. Simple!

16th Moonstone, 1057, Early Winter

Reveredtour could stand to look more appealing. Sure the land is covered with corpses and blood, but we're not exactly trying to counteract the ugliness that causes. In order to do so, I'be order the construction of a pretty tunnel tube log road outside the fort.

I mean whose going to focus on the rotting goblins and elf bones when you could be looking at a nice pink road? Nobody, that's who.

21st Moonstone, 1057, Early Winter

Rather than have my tomb be an underground chamber, I've instead decided to it will be directly below my office on the ocean. The heart of Reveredtour lies not in the many deep roads winding through the caverns but up here on the surface. It's only fitting that my final resting place would be here. There have been concerns about the possibility of undead fish crawling into the fort through it, but that's why we build walls. Besides, the local fish population seems relatively benign. The worst ocean attack I can recall was the zombie bluefish. That was years ago!

25th Moonstone, 1057, Early Winter

There was a time when the local gazelle population was basically nonexistent. They hadn't been seen in the wastes surrounding Reveredtour for a long time. However it seems they have made a rebound, as a large gazelle herd was sighted in the outskirts just a few days ago.

Upon hearing this General Veok gathered his troops to participate in a traditional gazelle hunt.

Now I remember why these things were almost wiped out in the first place. Still, even if they were completely wiped out the species would not be extinct here, thanks to my diverse livestock program. We shall always have plenty of gazelle to slaughter and turn into delicious food.

I sort of agree with Root. I can usually distinguish items and creatures, but sometimes it's hard to tell where your center of attention is. If that makes any sense at all.
