I fear for anyone nearby if she loses her other arm. Then again an Elven caravan getting bitten to death by an armless dwarf would make a good story.

then the legs.

'get here! I'm gonna bite your kneecaps!'

BTW, if root dies, will she be given an epic tomb? after all she's done for the fort...

Of course, however this leads to another installment of "why people hate nobles".

As you all know, nobles require certain living conditions in order to be satisfied. What you don't know is that nobles get pissy when other dwarves who are not of nobility have living conditions similar to there's or, god forbid, better. This causes them to be upset, the one thing nobles are good at doing. So if you want to honor one of your fallen commanders with some elaborate tomb then you better make damn sure the nobles have even better ones. With Stinthad this isn't really an issue since there are so many things that make her happy she's almost always ecstatic. With a different noble who is not so easily pleased, this can be very annoying.

I know about the pissy nobles. isn't it the same for rooms and private dinner halls etc?
besides, if a noble gets pissy, there are 2 solutions:
an 'unfortunate' accident
trapped in an a room, and allowed to go mad.
both of which I think you will tyry to avoid.

I just use them in the gladiator arena, I have special shows where my deranged prisoners do not fight zombie elephants, they fight nobles. It is quite fun.

Chapter 97: From the journal of Stinthad Kekimtobul

3rd Hematite, 1058, Early Summer

Another thief was spotted trying to enter the fort, but other than that there is no sign of a kobold raid. I've called the soldiers back, as they need not waste more time looking for a nonexistent threat.

We have bigger problems at the moment. Those weird flying things have become a problem, as they have been harassing anyone who enters the abyss. I will send the Silvers of heat down to deal with them. Meanwhile, an elk bird heard has been causing problems higher up in the caverns. The Immortal Rags should be able to deal with that though. The cavern animals have been rather restless lately. I wonder if there's any cause for that or if I'm just imagining things.

11th Hematie, 1058, Early Summer

So...Silent Thunder met with the merchants today. I thought everything would go well. I'd like to say that it did, but the screaming that could be heard coming from the trade depot says otherwise.

Things started off well enough. The elves seemed polite and willing to trade with us. They hadn't brought along much of value. Silent Thunder only picked out a small amount of booze and some berries. A tiny purchase, but at least it would improve our relations with the elves.

That's when things went south.

I heard the elven leader screaming, furious that Silent Thunder had dared to insult them in such a way! I rush down to the depot to see what had went wrong, and one of the elves shoved the offending item right in my face.

A splint. Once again a tiny splint has created a vision between my people and the elves. I can't really blame Silent Thunder for this since I've made the same mistake. Unfortunately the story does not end there. Root heard the commotion from the hospital, and gave orders to General Veok about how she would like the situation to be resolved.

This involved "liberating" the elves of their caravan.

The soldiers hauled off everything. Every last wooden arrow and barrel of gnomeblight was taken from the elves. They refused to listen to me! We didn't even need half the stuff the elves brought along, but because Root commanded it we have stolen an entire caravan!

I...I'm not sure how this is going to end. The elves have been awfully forgiving in the past but this time I fear we may have gone too far. Maybe I'm just overreacting though. Maybe nothing bad will come of this. I mean, they are just elves...what are they going to do about it anyways?

21st Hematite, 1058, Early Summer

Root has been recovering, albeit at a very slow rate. Silent Thunder says that in order to avoid doing further damage to her battered leg she needs to use a crutch. Furthermore, she's concerned that damage to her left arm will impair her fighting abilities to the point where Root shouldn't even bother. Of course Root won't have any of this. She claims she'll be able to fight just as well as any other soldier as soon as she can get back on her feet. I'm not sure I agree, but I know well enough that trying to keep her from doing so will just cause more problems.

27th Hematite, 1058, Early Summer

A gremlin was spotted down in the abyss, tinkering with some of the traps we had set up. Upon being sighted the scheming creature fled, but Rabid is convinced that it will be back. He believes that gremlins are messing with the traps he and the other mechanics have set up and demands I do something about it. I'm not sure what I can do though, and figuring that he was the head mechanic I told him it would be more appropriate for him to solve the problem himself.

3rd Malachite, 1058, Mid-Summer

I believe I've found a use for all those spare weapons lying around the fort. The Blood Bowl is where we shall try and make most of our fight occur in the future. So why not place some weapon traps in it? A distracted goblin is far more likely to set off a trap when they are busy fighting. Besides, this gives us a use for all those giant serrated disks Goden bought a long time ago. Not sure what she intended to do with them, but that plan is long gone.

I'll have the forge masters produce more of them to ensure we get a substantial number of weapon traps.

10th Malachite, 10578, Mid-Summer

Great, another dwarf seems to have been taken over by some strange force. This time it's a farmer. I'm honestly not sure what kind of artifact a farmer would build, Maybe he'll plant and raise to most delicious plump helmet ever? Or maybe it will be some sort of demented abomination?

...or maybe he'll just take control of a mason's shop. Sure, why not.

14th Malachite, 1058, Mid-Summer

Root once again walks! She has made a full recovery! Or, at least she insists that she has made a full recovery. Silent Thunder and Jessica think that she should spend more time resting. Unsurprisingly, Root disagrees and is once again training her troops. I hope those injuries don't come back to hinder her later though.

16th Malachite, 1058, Mid-Summer

Oh boy! More migrants! We're in the perfect position to receive a population boost, so this is a very welcome sight. Even if there aren't any particularly skilled workers among them.

I'm surprised such a small group was able to make the journey across the wastes. Or...maybe the group was once larger, but this is all this is left. A grim thought. Either way, Reveredtour welcomes them. I'm sure they'll find some niche to fill.

24th Malachite, 1058, Mid-Summer

When that farmer first took control of the mason's workshop, I was confused. What artifact could a farmer make out of stone? Well, the answer was surprising but on reflection makes sense.

It's a millstone. An artifact millstone.

Of course it's covered in spikes. I'm not sure what we could possibly do with this. Even if we had a need for a millstone, I doubt that this thing would work properly. It almost seems like a joke.

Nothing of interest has really been happening lately. I'm surprised that the goblins haven't made another move yet. Honestly it's made me a bit paranoid. They could show up at any moment now.

Anyways, I feel the need to point out that the dwarfing list is empty. So if I get another migrant wave, I won't be able to update. So if any of you want to be dwarfed, speak up!

Well, if I'd died, I'd gladly be redwarfed. So I suppose you can list me for "immediate redwarfing if I die", if it helps (as "a signpost" - since that's my XBL gamertag, and I've already used my forum name).

I totally want dwarfed. I've been reading through all of these wondering how I haven't noticed this before. I feel ashamed of myself. D:

Awesome game, if only it was made in 3d! this and LCS have some really good gameplay / replay mechanics! actually when i learned playing Dwarf Fortress, i mean DF, i used the JefMajor Channel cause he made such Funny Let's Play's...

ps: once in adventurer mode, my Hammer and shield character got into a fight against bandits, after a few quests, he had 4 other warriors by his side, sadly, they charged managed to kill all the bandits but 1, and that's how i came in and got Impaled by a master Spearman...

Going into details doesn't make it a very pretty epic sight...
In what i remember: the spear shredded the flesh, then pierced the stomach, cut the nervous system, came out through the skull and then Zorgal McBubbles has been struck down

ps:ps: Use the Phoebus Textures Mod, it's prettier!

Just finished reading the whole thing, love it. Can I be a dorf?

"Spy" or "Blade" works fine as far as names go. Thanks.
This was a while ago, page 44, but my request remains the same. Also, whats the plan for the Deadly Blood Forgotten Beast?
