The "nothing you do matters" argument from wannabe nihilist assholes who spend their whole time admiring fictional characters like the Rick Sanchez, Joker, Johan Liebert, Junko Enoshima (spoilers for Danganronpa), and the near entire cast of Black Lagoon. Acting like "geniuses", because a bunch of unsympathetic, raging sociopaths are spitting the "truth"! No matter how much you praise those fucks or suck their dicks, all of them would not give you the time of day, if they were real. Most of them would use you dumb asses until you are no longer needed and kill you. Drinking their Kool-Aid does not make you some profound genius or the smartest person with the highest IQ in the world.

Lastly? "Destroyed"

"So and So DESTROYED these Right-wing idiots" "Watch how This One Dude DESTROYS SJW cucks!"

Literally almost every mention of some interaction between different thoughts and ideals are always set up as these battles... It was once a time where people could have different ideas and just talk them, not try to break down everything someone believes. It creates this need to be a champion that destroys the others. I might not agree with current Republican ideals, but I don't want Republicans to be DESTROYED. I get some of their mind sets. I understand wanting to have more autonomy over their lives, more of their own money in their pocket, and a whole host of other ideals.

I feel like more compromises need to be had between us, and not seeking epic struggles of mutual destruction over stupid and trivial things.
Personally, I'm more annoyed that "destroyed" means "disagreed with in public". The destroyed person then goes on doing whatever it was they were doing, because they are not destroyed in any way whatsoever. I'm pretty sure Piers Morgan got TOTALLY DESTROYED by Little Mix, Ariana Grande and Ariana Grande's mother (who name eludes me at the moment) over the same issue on more or less the same day. Traditionally, you only get destroyed once.

That said, I get why people would want to see Piers Morgan destroyed (for reals), but it's not happening just cause someone famous calls him out for being a terrible person.

I like how DESTROYED seems to mean that the target doesn’t get to rebutt the discussion points... because that’s how real life works

"Merry Christmas." I was once very neutral on "Merry Christmas," but ever since people decided to get their entitled panties in a twist over the use of the more inclusive "Happy Holidays" and so insist on throwing around "Merry Christmas" in some imagined insurrectionist's act of martyrdom, I almost see it the same as "MAGA." Don't be a dick; Christmas, if the most pervasive, is not the ONLY holiday celebrated this time of year; "Happy Holidays" is a perfectly acceptable, generic, and KIND greeting for people you don't know or those you don't know what, if anything, they celebrate.

Yeah, I've had a lot of people do this, they've pretty much weaponized the phrase. I've had clients start to leave my office and be like "Ok thank you for your help, merry christmas" and they pause, waiting to see how I respond. And since I'm an atheist, I just say "have a nice day." And some of these clients will then go "I said MERYY CHRISTMAS!" to me again, like I'm fucking obligated to respond in kind, or I've done something wrong. Like I've shown my hand as a dirty commie or whatever. Fuck those people.

On that note, you reminded me of one.
When I tell people I'm an atheist, the ones that don't freak out thinking I've declared that I rape and eat babies, almost always look at me with pity and say something like "You know you need geeeezus in your heart." Yeah, no I don't, YOU might need the comfort of an invisible sky daddy that promises you rewards for your good behavior to get through the day. I'm fine as it is with reality thank you. Keep your condescending, self righteous shit to yourself.

I just don't like the phrase happy holidays since it sounds so generic and lifeless. Everyone is allowed to tell me and others about their holiday greetings. Happy Hanukkha, Happy Kwanzaa, Merry Christmas, etc. Even atheists like saying Merry Christmas.

Whenever the media claims that someone "blasted" or "blasts" something or someone. It sounds stupid and journalists should honestly have a better vocabulary.

On top of which, it's the 'being on holiday' bit that's fun. Christmas day, in and of itself, is a bit shit. The three weeks I usually take off work, OTOH, are great.

Personal Truth. Sorry buddy, there's no such thing. There is reality, and whatever fiction you've concocted in your head that apparently conflicts with reality, but you like it more because it makes you feel good. Sorry, that's just delusion, not truth.

"Please read and sign this (47 pages!?) document, worthless consumer, lest we lock you out of playing the product you payed for"

Followed by

"Please read and sign this extra (46 pages?!) document, dumbass consumer, we ain't done here just yet"

(Some paraphrasing had to be done, as I can't check the exact wording right now)

Especially on remakes of 20 year old games. It's more efficient to assume it's just them saying how much control they're clawing over your purchase while being as far from any legal liability as they can weasel their lousy arses away from. Thanks, and fuck off please. I don't get this crap with movies or books.

The old site would have loved Rick Sanchez so much.

Liking something "ironically"

No, you don't. You like it genuinely, but you too much of an insecure chickenshit to owe up to it.

Movie Bob actually had a rant similar to this back in 2010. One a few times where he had a legitimate point.

People who constantly use phrases like trashy fun, or guilty pleasure too much are really that insecure about what they like and don't want to admit it. Or just trying to impress people who don't like the hobbies they do. That was my problem with a lot of "professional" gaming critics who reviewed Devil May Cry 5. This guy pointed out a lot of their hypocrisies and bullshit.

EDIT: While we are at it, people using the "it's satire" excuse. Just because it's satire does not make it automatically good nor immune to critcism. This has always been a problem with the Internet, but when Jeremy from Cinema Sins started using it, all of sudden, every talentless hack and "profound" critic started taking this excuse and running with it. Movie Bob himself was guilty of this when defending Family Guy over South Park, calling the latter bad satire without anything to back it up. When it reality, Family Guy suffered more from this than South Park. SP main problem being that things got so formulaic, and there is nothing left they can really exaggerate anymore. With reality the way it's been right now, there is not much Matt and Trey can add.

Ouch, yes. Remember back when Duke Nukem Forever came out (and people stopped caring about it shortly afterwards), and people were apparently defending it as a parody? Not actually a parody of anything, just a parody, shut up.

These days people going on about how they represent ''the people'' make my skin crawl.

Its often used by bad actors who not only say they represent the people but that nobody else does and that they are the only ones with any legitimacy. It hinges on the assumption that every citizen who should matter already agrees with them and that everyone who doesn't agree is practically a traitor who should be dealt with.

And it are always the most extreme groups that claim the loudest that they are the people. ''Wir sind das Volk'' said Pegida in an era where Merkel easily won her elections. Trump is the champion of the people said his cult despite Trump always being deeply unpopular. Even the lunatics who don't believe in covid shout how they are acting on behalf of ''the people''.
