It gets bad enough by the third game that the entire plot of the big case that links everything together for the first three games happens solely because no-one respects or trusts him, despite everything he's done.
(Incidentally, that actually turned me off the series, there was no sense of victory in that third game, it was just a bitter grind because they made Phoenix such a buttmonkey to everyone, and even people who should by that time have trusted him implicitly completely didn't do so.)

You usually find him on remote islands, completely cut off from the rest of the world. All he does is stare out at one specific object. He does this all day, everyday. He's so involved in looking at that one object with his telescope that he won't even notice people walk up right next to him. He only exists to point out objects to the player.
Oh, and anyone in the Carmine family in Gears of War. I mean come on, their last name is a shade of red. They might as well have "shoot me" signs stuck on their backs.
