I'm sensing multi-use applications for this. If you can regrow skin, regrowing organ tissue can't be that far off.
Would be this were true, but they aren't "regrowing" skin, they're spurring it to regrow itself. Skin naturally is constantly replacing itself, so grows at a FANTASTIC rate. Organs . . . don't. And organs have to grow in a *certain structure*, a lump of undifferentiated heart tissue is not a heart. It is getting that *structure* that is the difficult part.

However, as someone who used to work in a tissue bank that harvested skin from cadavers for the purpose of helping people with skin problems (including burns) heal, this is just the coolest thing ever. I mean it. This is really, really awesome.

Hats off to you, Dr. Gerlach. Hats way, way off.

You'll be seeing alot more of this type of thing in the near future.

This is the same type of stem-cell magic they're using for breast reconstruction, and they've been speaking of organ regeneration and even nerve and bone regeneration for a while now.

It's pretty damn awesome.

You never know! Although spray-painting your heart may be a little more difficult since you still have to *get* there.

OT: Oh, Jorg C. Gerlach, I would give you a fist pound so hard that it would tear the flesh from my bones. Which you can then replace in a matter of days, you and your sexy brain.

after watching the video, are stem cells really blue like that? i don't have much sound as i'm at work, but they look cool, i want some.

and also, you'd think that if you were going to be on National Geographic you'd comb your damn hair.

This is great. And there is another implication here, the burns can now be healed with less visible scarring which is freaking awesome.

On the stem cell part, I don`t think this is a debate here, the cells are harvested from the same person meaning the process is similar to the old skin reconstruction techniques. I see no moral dilemma here.

Give this man a Nobel prize and a cookie from the internets !

I would consider this awesome, but it needs to be loaded with you own prepared stemcells.
Of course, I always run around with a batch or two of those.
