Smarties can look a lot like Ecstacy. Not that I know from experience or anything.

A game about smuggling drugs is smuggling drugs? Awesome!
Hahah. I'm sorry but reading this just made me laugh about this situation. That is really funny that something like this. Buy a game for the prize just like a box of cereal!
The prize? fuck that I buy it for the box.

Why are people allowing their 12 year olds to buy GTA4?
Why are stores selling GTA4 to 12 year olds?
Why are the police destroying evidence? I don't know about the UK, but in the US drugs do not get destroyed until after the case is solved or dismissed due to lack of evidence. The pills should've been tested, then stored in a drug safe, while the store was looking up the info on who traded in the game. Then the police should've used the drugs to indite the guilty party.
This all stinks of BS to me. There's way too many things going on in this story that are simply not right (the sale and allowing the kids to play it) and that are simply illegal (destroying evidence).
I think the police officers that destroyed the evidence should be arrested for destroying evidence, thus protecting the criminal.

So knowing Mitsubishi marked pills are E is common knowledge?

I wouldn't think most adults would say "These must be Ecstasy!!"

Dude got caught in a compromising position as far as his stash and came up with a crazy story.
Wait, if it was his stash why would he call the game store and the police to tell them he found drugs in the game box?
Because there's probably more to the story, like someone found his stash somewhere else and he made up some junk about 'uh, I found it in the GTA 4 box'
Oh I see

We should start a poll: Did the drugs actually come in the game or did this dude put them there?

aren't there laws that keep kids under 18 from playing M rated games??
The ESRB says 17... ;-;

Anyway, that would be hard to regulate...
Still, I think the ESRB should be made into law.
That, and we need an ESRB awareness week.

Exactly! Nevermind the fact that there are drug references in the game. I swear, the day that I see parents take responsibility will be the day that hell freezes over!

How long did his son have the game before he found the pills? I know he's only 12 but it's possible they were his.

Also he's 12, the guy's an idiot. Don't let him play GTA games and then complain you've found drugs in his room. I'm not saying the GTAIV makes people drug addicts but he's certainly accelerating his formative years.
I assume it was before he even gave it to his son... although who knows?
The father said he let his son play.
"What made me feel the most distraught was the fact we let our 12-year-old son play the game. Worst case scenario is he could have swallowed those pills," he said.
It's sad that he assumes his son is mature enough to play an adult rated game but in his mind he has the intelligence of a baby/toddler with a oral fixation having to put everything in it's mouth.

It's doesn't say how long they'd had the game. I'd like to have all the story, I'm supposing - it's possible they weren't in the game when bought.
I wouldn't be surprised, after all, how many of us have actually seen drugs like Ecstasy or Cocaine? I'm sure at 12 years old, most of us have only heard about the "horrors of illegal drugs", none of us actually see what they are.

Thornhill has nonetheless called for stricter policies regarding used game sales. "What made me feel the most distraught was the fact we let our 12-year-old son play the game. Worst case scenario is he could have swallowed those pills," he said. "He plays racing games as well, which have Mitsubishi cars in them, so he could have just thought they were something fun - like sweets."
There are so many connections and statements there that make no sense at all. They feel distraught that they let a 12-year-old play GTA, but not because it was violent. They're distraught because he could have accidentally taken ecstasy. Plus, how on earth do you connect playing "racing games, which have Mitsubishi cars in them" to thinking that he could eat candy? Do racing games make people more apt to eat suspicious candy or something?
