Man Forgot Loaded Handgun in His Carry-On, TSA Forgot To Notice

A man made it through security, onto a plane, and to his destination with a loaded handgun in his carry-on.

The holiday season is one of the busiest travel times of the year, but this isn't an oversight that can reasonably be chalked up to busyness. Farid Seif, a businessman from Houston, Texas, always carries a loaded .40 caliber gun. He was flying out of Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, and forgot the gun was in his carry-on bag. He was able to board the plane without realizing the oversight, though, because nowhere in the security checkpoints and screenings did anyone notice his loaded gun.

Seif realized he had the weapon upon arriving at his destination, and promptly reported it. He was pretty shocked, particularly because there was nothing else in his carry-on; as he told his local ABC news outlet, "There's nothing else in there. How can you miss it? You cannot miss it."

The United States Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has been in the news lately for various controversial screening techniques, such as full-body scanners and pat-downs. A representative for the Houston Airport System refused to comment on this incident.

All I want is for everyone to get to keep their shoes on in the airport, but I'd certainly settle for no loaded handguns.

I read with a straight face until "Particularly because THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE IN IT", then I exploded in laughter.

Ha.

And on your final point. Here in the UK we can go through with our shoes on etc. I was flying back from ireland, didnt even have to take my jacket off, they didnt scan my laptop or confiscate my liquids that were over 100ml, we just stood around chatting. I love irish security.

I find it worrying enough that people can wander around with loaded handguns, let alone take them on planes. Every part of this story is silly.
Yeah, but unlike you, if I end up in an alley for some reason I'm not getting mugged.

OT: This is why I don't support these restricting laws. TSA can't even do jack shit with them anyway.
Yes you are, whos to say the thief doenst have a gun? So yes, you be mugged!

May I ask how in the world the UK doesn't have a rebellion on it's hands? Honestly, taking away our guns is enough to make 80% of everyone I know(including me) rebel against the government. Heck, some here in america even think that the president who illegalizes guns is the antichrist and must be overthrown in the name of god.(you have never seen a violently enraged mormon, and trust me, it aint pretty)

Seriously, with everything I've seen, it's unbelievable that no revolution is taking place. I think the new anti-porn bill will push things over the edge(imagine that in a history book).
Oh since the 1780's when we lost our American colonies we've become masters at crushing revolution. We do it better than anyone, managing to keep effectively the same establishment since the 1650's. Defence of the realm; more important than the people, the ideals, god, anything.

And banning guns has been critical to that and explicit in their aims. You need guns for a revolution and the earliest weapons prohibitions were explicit in that aim and also utterly classist, the loyal upper class could have anything they liked, the unruly plebs were deprived. The privileged got their way.

The point is this didn't happen over night, it has ALWAYS been this way.

"Let's see here: toothbrush, shaving cream, loaded handgun...wait a minute! Sir, what are you doing with shaving cream in your carry on? Don't you know how volatile the chemicals in this can are at high altitudes? Please walk with my associate here for a full-body scan and pat down."

Edit: "Oh, and don't forget your handgun, sir. Have a nice day."
Reminds me of South Park. "Toilet paper, toilet paper, toilet paper- now you kids be careful with this chewing gum, don't be sticking it under desks or anything!"

"Okay!"

"Let's see... toilet paper, toilet paper..."

OT: Frankly, I'd like it if people with state-issued carry permits could take their guns anywhere, instead of people making us get protection from the police who aren't required to give it.
I almost busted out laughing at work from this. Thanks, I needed it =D
No problem. And if you haven't seen that episode, they TP a house.

If everyone on the plane had a loaded weapon no terrorist attacks could ever take place successfully.

"ALLAH AKB---*BLAM*"
The issue with that is when people have a .40 cal and over penetrating into the shell of the plane, or the kid sitting behind the terrorist
Hmmm...complete death of everyone on board or just a risk that requires an oxygen mask.

Hmmmmm.....

You know, despite what some people seem to believe, you can only sue for actual damages in the US. Since you wouldn't have been damaged by the gun having been there since it wasn't used, you would have nothing to sue for.

You know I remember a time where all you had to do was just walk right on through the metal detectors and everything would be fine, bags could be checked for free and you could walk into a airport with your 2 liter bottle of homemade ice tea with a razor for those long flights.

America is one of the easiest places to get guns legally in the developed world. It has also one of the highest murder rates in the developed world. There is a connection there.

goddammit. Is the TSA completely incompetent, or were they only searching the brown people?

isnt the TSA already getting massive flack for using full body X-rays on women?
I remember some story about a dude who got caught whacking off behind one of the X-rays in the airport when a teenage girl volley ball team went through it.

Raises the question - When does being protected by security become unreasonable and intrusive?

Well it's because they are too busy taking all the 5 year olds out of line to strip search them in the secure, unsupervised area.
don't forget oogling the naked body scans of young women
Hence my fat suit smuggling plan.
