So he took in less calories and lost weight? How unexpected. *eye roll here*

Yeah of course you can lose weight eating just junk. You just won't get a lot to eat each day because of how many calories are in stuff like Twinkies and Dew.

So he ate pretty much pure sugar and fat and took extra protein and vitamins?
Yes, but he kept the total calories below 1800, so it all works out. It's really not a new idea, any biochemist will tell you that it doesn't matter what you ingest, your body will work with it no matter what it is, but the amount in terms of biologically significant energy (or calories).

Will this guy's low-calorie diet make you lose weight? Yeah, in all likelihood.

If you're going to do a low-calorie diet, is it better to eat real foods like meat and veggies? Absolutely.

Please kids, don't try this one at home. =(

I hate eating. I've got myself down to one meal a day and a small snack just before bed. It horrifies people.
Sure does for me. It's very unhealthy to not eat breakfast.
Good guess on one of the ones I don't eat. But tell me, why is it unhealthy? The main reasons bandied about are:

1) Without it you can't get your recommended servings of X Y and Z.
- Okay, sure. Problem is that applies for ANY meal, so I've been dying slowly since I stopped eating lunch at... ten?

2) It's good for growing bodies.
- I'm not growing and haven't been for over a decade. And I have no kids to serve as an example for.

3) Less prone to snacking on sugary foods for a fix.
- Simple solution to that. I don't snack! Several large glasses of water a day and maybe a breath mint or two.

4) You gain weight when you skip breakfast.
- Related to #3. On two meals my BMI was tipping over into the "overweight" section of the chart. Now I'm normal, for the first time in YEARS.

So maybe it would be a death sentence for someone else. But me, it seems to be working OK for.

I guess this explains my blood pressure.
My doctor said to "Keep doing whatever your doing, because its working".
And apparently eating junk food works sometimes.

It doesn't start the digestive system properly after the fast of the night (hence the name break-fast) and can lead to ulcers.
But obviously such a concern could be alleviated if you conditioned yourself to such a digestive pattern over time, with which you're now accustomed to if you survive comfortably.

The problem isn't just that people are unwilling to lessen their caloric intake. We here in the English speaking world, at least in the United States, Eat a lot of food with addictive stuff like sugar, sodium and simple carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates and Sodium are why no one can eat just one potato chip.

All he proved was that eating less = lost weight, which isn't that impressive. If I ate 100 full roast dinners, compared to 1 chocolate bar, guess whether or not I put on weight.

Provided this is based on a sufficient body of tests, your doctor is one of the few in the world who apparently hasn't been brainwashed into believing the one-size-fits-all model most of them have been dragooned into believing over the last 40 years.

Part of the guy's problem was that he was consuming 2600 calories a day. That's 600 more than an active adult needs, and I have a feeling he wasn't all that active. If he's been eating like that for years, he'd have lots of extra weight on him, and thus once he scaled back, he started to lose weight.

You can eat whatever you want and lose weight, and for most people, the need to lose weight over the short term far outweighs any issues with nutrition, as they're doing more damage to their bodies carting around all that extra weight.

There's this perception, based on provided nutritional values, that we've got to eat all this food or we'll starve to death overnight or something, and that just feeds (ha) the perception that we've got to eat three big meals a day. Couple that with the marketing muscle of packaged food and casual dining establishments, and there's no surprise that Westerners end up consuming such huge amounts of calories.

Someone could do a study about getting fat on a vegetarian diet, it's all about the calories.

In before a whole slew of people finish reading this with the misconception that this guy stuffed his face with junk food and magically lost weight.

This might be the schadenfreude speaking, but I picture some obese person cramming fistfulls of twinkies, chips and moutain dew until his heart explodes, wondering why in the hell isn't he getting any thinner like Haub .

I think this is one of the most stupid things I've read lately. This is awful. This man is a professor of nutrition?

Body fat doesn't necessarily equal unhealthy; clogged arteries most assuredly do. I don't see how anyone could think that this man is right in suggesting that you can just eat junk food and be as healthy as someone who's eating healthy and nutritious meals. Besides, he was taking vitamins and drinking PROTEIN SHAKES. HELLO? PROTEIN = FAT LOSS. He effin' cheated!

Facts deduced from this "experiment":
Protein + Vitamins + Low Calorie Diet = Weight Loss

This is nothing new. Seriously, this guy just wants a moment in the spotlight for his supposed "discovery"...
