I'll make a wager that you'll think that, regardless of how the actual game turns out.
Well, interpretations of the game are subjective.

But for me, things went radically downhill in ME2. Based on what I've seen, and the other content BioWare has put out, I'm predicting it'll be bad.

However, we'll see.

I bet I'm right, though.

Mass Effect 3 is going to have multiplayer? Bioshock and Dead Space had multiplayer squeezed into their games and it didn't work out. Why should this be any different?
Because the mulitplayer aspects in both BioShock 2 and Dead Space 2 were truly just tacked on for the hell of it.

Mass Effect 3's multiplayer is actually part of the story. It's what's going on while Shepard is out shooting aliens and endorsing his favorite shops. It's every bit as canonical to the main story as the singleplayer, though it's completely optional.

It's merely there to help anyone willing to use it. The best ending can still be achieved completely within singleplayer.

That's why it should be different. And when the game comes out, we'll see how it goes.

At the end I nearly had a heart attack of joy when the release date came up correctly i.e Day/Month/Year.

Regarding "How did we go from a one man army to online multiplayer?" The story behind ME 3 is that the Reaper invasion has officially begun. The galaxy is officially in all-out war. No more hiding behind denial of the Reaper threat, you're fighting for your life.
I was really more talking about the fundamental shift in gameplay. Would you make an epic, 60-hour single-player RPG out of Team Fortress?
I think the multiplayer looks as if it will work really well here. The difference between this multiplayer version and many others, is that this one actually complements the main game, and in a good way!

Being a PS3 only owner and with a PC not strong enough to handle neither Gears nor Halo, I have never had any experience with hordes. Well, it looked promising enough for me, I will give it a try when I get enough out of the single player.

About EDI, eh, everything that has to be said has been said. I don't care how they decide to make her look, I will get used to it. As long as they didn't change the voice, I'm cool. Besides, Joker will definately have something to say about the change and I cannot wait to hear it.

Hopefully by then I'll be able to figure out why Shepard's omni-blade makes that metallic "shink" sound when he turns it on.
Cause he's Commander Shepard!
(I'd have mine set to play Miracle of Sound's Commander Shepard)

*yawns at trailer* Typical EA/Bioware advertisement, and does nothing to make me excited for the game. The story/characters of Mass Effect is what drew me in, and as they don't seem to like discussing that (despite it only being around a month away now) means the games really not on my mind much at the moment.

Bioshock's is as well. It's Atlas' army versus Ryan's (which happened in the Bioshock story). Dead Space 2 is security forces versus necromorphs (which again, is something that happened).

Just because the links are shown doesn't make it more or less canon. It's still "generic soldier versus generic enemy", it's not like the characters you play as have any direct impact or characterisation in the main game. If I fail a mission in my multiplayer game, it's not going to be mentioned in my single player one.

Because it's completely against the characters that the previous games have set up? Because it undermines what has happened before in the story? Because it gives in to horny fanboys and their wet dreams instead of having the backbone to continue with a platonic, adult relationship? Because it's ridiculous and stupid? Take your pick.

Then again, judging by the leaked script and what has been confirmed to be true, Mass Effect 3 is shaping up to be such a colossal trainwreck that it might, just might be intriguing to play through - only to see how horribly misguided the efforts of Bioware/EA are.
In the long run, if things like this are enough turn you away from what I believe will be Game of the Year, then do everyone a favor, leave and don't come back. No one will miss any of you.

So, let's get this straight: you're so blinded by your decision to buy the game that any other opinions (especially opinions formed from reading up on FACTS), are easily dismissed by attempting to reduce valid concerns (massive plot and character changes, EA forced game modes and total tonal shift compared to previous installments) into a wave of the hand scoff, as if they were people complaining about Shepard having blue armor instead of red?

Does that not strike you as being a bit off?
Plot changes? Character changes? Do you have the game or something? I've read the leaked script with all it's so-called horrors and I can honestly say you're overreacting.

Also the tonal shift is silly to state... Why? Mainly because you're basing this on MARKETING. Even then, ME3 WILL be tonally different since it's really not the same "space-faring epic" but an all-out war. It's not a tonal difference that is unreasonable.

Last, the game modes are not forced upon on us at all. You can play the way you want. Simple as that. The action mode simply auto-dialogues BETWEEN both Paragon and Renegades dialogue. It's hardly a win button where only the best options will succeed.

News flash: dynamic story line and characters. Characters change with time and story develops. Your bias stench can be recognised a mile away.
It's doesn't "undermine" anything, just expands and develops.
but anyway don't like it don't play it. Bioware will not even notice.
"FACTS" haha show me proof that leaked script was final OR was every possible outcome of decisions. you can't because it's vague and incomplete.
PS i have read every spoiler leaked too. you are not special.

Oooooooh, how original, Special Forces huh? Very lame. If you don't mind me saying so; COD.

I still don't understand people who want to play as [insert species], it's not like you can bloody role-play in multiplayer. It's just a re-texture.

Uh people, you do know that this thread is supposed to be about the multiplayer, not leaked plot points right? Also you're being a little premature, you can't really rip these things apart just yet, for all you know they're absolutely brilliant in context, just do me a favor and wait until the game is actually out and play through it before you tear these things apart. Also, I'M TRYING TO AVOID SPOILERS! PLEASE STOP POSTING THEM ON EVERYTHING MASS EFFECT RELATED! IT'S GETTING IRRITATING! If you really want to talk about them is it too hard to bring it to gaming discussion on a thread made just for that?

OT: Multiplayer looks awesome, I really don't get the naysayers who think the second you step outside of your safe zone the game degrades in quality. I love how Bioware is expanding the game personally.
