So basically doing everything in ME2 to save earth as a massive waste of time?

You weren't fighting to save just Earth in ME2, you were fighting for humanity everywhere in the galaxy. A slightly major difference, there.

It was for Mass Effect 3?

OK, don't tease games we know are fucking coming, because there's no point.

Still... YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!

****MASS EFFECT 1 & 2 SPOILERS****

I'm amused how the Reapers' logic goes from "destroy all life in the galaxy with one, fell swoop" to "aww, screw it, let's just do the 'invade earth' thing."

Especially considering their "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em phase" in the middle.

It just seems like they're getting incrementally less competant.

****END SPOILERS****

That said, next year's Christmas can't come quickly enough...
Seems like more of a continuation to me.

**MORE SPOILERS***

In Mass Effect 2 we saw that they used the most powerful race of tat cycle to generate new reapers. In Mass Effect 1, they didn't know who this was, just that our cycle was up. By Mass Effect 2, they realised it was the humans who would be their future, but Shep screws up their plans. This is the reapers just taking the game to us to finish the job. Maybe they realise that humans are too much trouble, and need to get rid of us first before creating the new generation of Reapers.

***END SPOILERS***

I think people aren't giving Bioware enough faith. When I first played Mass Effect, I wasn't impressed, but I was drawn in on my second attempt to play through. These guys know how to craft an entertaining story, we aren't going to be playing Halo 3 with dialogue trees here.

I did have a total nerdgasm over the trailer though. I was like "it won't actually by London, it won't actually be-HOLY BALLS ITS LONDON. MASS EFFECT IN MY HOME TOWN! AWW HELL YEAH!"

I literally wet myself when they announced this. I knew that ME 3 was on its way but I had heard that it wasn't until 2013. Also, the whole destroyed Earth thing? Fuck yeah. It's gonna be one sexy-ass game.

Yes but the Collectors next target was Earth (and even if it wasn't I'm pretty sure Earth is part of "Humanity everywhere in the Galaxy")

Seems to me like Shepard could've just stayed dead the entire second game and not a lot would have changed.

Hopefully this means a mission where you either
1. Recruit an Irish guy
2. Rescue Irish survivors
3. A mission set in IRELAND.

Has no one noticed that the soldier sounds eerily similar to Simon Pegg?
Please, for the love of all that is holy, let Simon Pegg be a recruitable companion!!!

The funny thing about this trailer is that someone with no prior knowledge of the Mass Effect series would watch this and think that it's another grey futuristic shooter about Earth being taken over by aliens. I'm willing to bet that very little of the game will actually be set there, as the implications toward the end of the trailer are that Shepard will be off doing his own thing, possibly rallying an attack force Dragon Age-style or battling Reapers in other parts of the galaxy as well, since I highly doubt the Reapers are only attacking Earth.

But anyway, yeah, I don't think anyone on the face of the planet has ever been more excited for anything than I am for this game.
Do you think Bioware is marketing it as a generic space shooter to attract the generic space shooter fanbase? As long as it doesn't affect the gameplay, whatever.

And as I recall, after Shepard and the Normandy kicked ass at the end of Mass Effect 1, the reapers became convinced that the humans were the superior race in the galaxy. So it's possible that they would go after Earth first.

Totally can't wait for more info.

A few million in the first week?

Doesn't anyone else find that weird? It's a planet extermination, and all they could do in a week is a few million out of several billion?
To me, it sounds like he is talking about London, and not the whole world.

But we as an audience got a lot of Universe development in ME2, and it gives the reapers all the more reason to be pissed at Earth

Looks like Jason Statham, but with the voice of Simon Pegg. Win win.

Looks to be epic, but I really am disapointed this wasn't something more surprising. I mean, c'mon. They hardly need to work up hype for a mass effect game anymore, and when someone drops clues about an announcement, I honestly expect that it's something I wouldn't have expected otherwise.

Ah well. At least they got london attacked for once instead of new york again. Seriously, how many times a year is new york cinematically trashed?

Wait!! Why would we want to recruit anything Irish to fight the reapers?

They can't even afford the weapons, let alone the armour -Ah snap-

I thought it was obvious that this referred only to London, Earth has 30 Billion inhabitants in the ME universe, it would make sense for 9 million people to be killed if it's only London.

Yes, yes, yes!!! I'm so looking forward to this. The only question now is whether it'll be pushed to 2012, as ME2 was pushed to 2010.

Meanwhile, I think I'll keep myself busy with Dragon Age 2.
