As long as ME3's plot don't suck as much as ME2's did. I'm cool.
I thought the plot was excellent; of course, I consider all of the character's individual stories to be part of the main plot.
I agree, the ME2 had some remarkable character depth.

So, in other words, it's Ewok time.
OhFuckGodNoooooooo!

There was plenty of humor in the second game, it was just subtler. Grunt cracked me up, and Mordin...well, he insinuated my Shep had a gay crush on him, and the next time I talk to him, he's singing HMS Pinafore show tunes. I guess salarians are trolls in ME, cause he sure as shit trolled me. And there's always:

"This is all Joker's fault, what a tool. Now I have to spend all day computing Pi because he plugged in the Overmind."

And of course, punching that same reporter, in the same eye, is always a classic.

I thought that some of the 'down-time' parts of Mass Effect 2 were already a little light and funny for the mood. That and some of the quips that the characters would make still seemed to lighten the mood every now and then- I guess Im confused how the game isnt already like that?

Thought it had a good balance of both.
At the same time, given how the 2nd game left off- I don't really see how the plot of Mass Effect 3 COULD be a bit lighter. Mass Effect 1 was all about introductions to the universe, and learning more about how the galaxy was run and what went on under the surface- then ME2 was all about going into the darker side of the galaxy to recruit characters for something so suicidal that you would only expect to survive with the dark underbelly of the world at your side.

ME3 seems, to me, like it would be more about gathering an armada from all across the galaxy. Bringing some common ground to the light and dark side of the galaxy to marshal a force to challenge the Reapers.

But, we shall see whats in store for us

I don't know, there were a lot of conversations in ME2 that absolutely killed me. Laughter wise of course. I think as long as it keeps a similar atmosphere and serves to wrap the plot up, I'll still love Mass Effect 3.

hmm... ME2 = 100% improvement on ME1... Here's a thought, Don't change a damn thing, you did good, now keep doing good.
Heres a thought Bioware, dont listen to views like this.

Plenty of us thought ME2 was a dumbed down Gears of War clone that sucked ass, and need to see even more "drastic improvements" to win us back.

Of course, with the rumour of multiplayer floating around, I guess "listening to the fans" has gone out of fashion now that supposedly doing so has led you to pandering to the shooter fanbase above all else.

Pity the rumour is the sales arent looking like it was such a smashing "shooter success". Its nowhere near Gears of War.

If I see anything even mildly resembling a Gungan in ME3 it's dead to me. Bioware wants to give us comic relief? Give us a sociopathic Volus for the team!

So long the story remains amazing and the climax is one of ze MOST epic I have ever witnessed in my life.

I want to see how Shepard and Tali go along in ME3 and EARTH. Show the goddamned planet already, you must have some concept art of it!
Wasn't the beginning of the first game a scene of Shepard looking out through a window overlooking Earth? Or maybe it's just another lush blue and green sphere.

Here's a thought Bioware, don't make the combat crap just because some people feel all insecure if there aren't enough comforting big numbers attached to everything. Never mind the fact that the combat from Mass Effect 2 was far superior to that in the original. Never mind that the simplification actually increased the amount of input you had in combat, thus meaning your tactical decisions actually had more meaning. Never mind that the shoot outs in ME2 felt a lot more real and fun since enemies actually reacted properly to combat.

No, ignore all that, because some people can't understand that gameplay can be good without having to tack big numbers onto everything. Oh, it's been all 'dumbed down', oh, I feel all faint at the prospect of actually having to fight proplerly rather than hiding behind a big wall of numbers. People like you wouldn't know fun if it ran up and kicked you in the balls.

Whilst Mass Effect is rather serious when you get down to it, I think the funny moments stand out more than the serious ones (Such as Elcor Hamlet on the Citadel, or at least I think it was Hamlet) and the cast has Seth Green! Seth. Green. His performances as Joker are spot on, and he's perfect to help lighten the mood.

Mass Effect 3 is expected to be released sometime in 2011.
2011? Sounds too soon. *tries to not get hopes up*
That's what I thought but they were working on it while putting the finishing touches on ME2. Who cares, I'll be tripping over myself to get it come 2011!

I usually think that you can never really go wrong with humour in a game. In Mass Effect it may seem a bit out of place, though.

Ah, well. I trust Bioware enough to assume they won't overdo it.

I hope they at least have a bit of darkness. Part of my favorite sections in ME 2 was at the end where I was incredibly stressed out over if I would actually make it or not.

[sub]Good riddance with Miranda though[/sub]
What do ya mean good riddance with Miranda?

OT: As long as the PC version is released with the 360 I'm happy.
She died during the suicide mission.
Not for me. If you do everything right nobody dies. The only person who died on me was Mordin.

Didn't get enough Renegade points to have her become loyal again after her argument with Jack.

I didn't want to be all good or all bad. I wanted to be a mix. Therefore I did not focus everything on renegade, which it turns out, bit me in the ass.

Still, I don't mind her dying. She was a *****.

Actually i was more paragon than renegade but still got the chance to bang her and she did survive.

Well you banged her, so of course she survives.

I banged Jack, meaning that I had to side with her during her argument with Miranda. Miranda was pissed, and I needed full renegade to make her happy again.

I think I actually enjoyed the darker aspects of 2, like many of the other comments here. It helped make the storyline more involved, and the constant reminder that anyone could (and in my hilariously inept first try often did) die added a lot of tension to the entire game. While I could see some humor being nice I really hope they don't go overboard.
Seconded. I don't get it--how exactly do you make a story about millions of enormous sentient death machines attempting to commit galactic omnicide "light"? If anything, it should be darker than the second game.
You know you're screwed when sentient, artificially created 50,000 year old cockroaches come to reap the galaxy of all life.

It will be curious to see just how they finish up the storyline. I hope it gives closure to everything that was brought about in ME1 and 2.

The funny thing from my perspective is, ME2 didn't really seem all that dark.
I agree. I saw it more of a light game with dark moments rather than the other way around. Sure you have Moradin wrapped up in the ethical implications of him being privy to genocide, but at most other times he's giving you advice about sex, or lamenting the implications of how a virus got onto the ship that is only transferred as an STD from those wolf/dog things.

I guess it can get pretty dark at the end if you screw up and start having to watch your friends die, especially Kelly in what has to be the most wrenching footage in the game, but assuming you make the right decisions and you get to end the game with a big old family group hug, it's actually rather cheery.
