I wouldn't mind a mercanary or criminal as a protagonist, I liked Shepard but playing with the choice of exactly how involved you want to get with the criminal world would lead to some interesting situations. Hey mabey the protagonist cna even be another species. Batarian perhaps. On a side note I am playing Mass Effect 3 at the moment (I am cheap so I waited till it was around 20$ like I do for most games.), so far pretty good though fingers crossed for the ending to not suck as much as everyone says it does. Then again I liked Dragon Age 2 so mabey this will be another case of liking something almost everyone else hates.

Eh, honestly I'd prefer Bioware to either make a proper KOTOR sequel (which obviously isn't gonna happen with TOR in existence) or something brand new at this point. Much as I enjoy Mass Effect, they'll never surpass how great the first game was, and it just feels... complete, with the ending of ME3 (extended cut, that is). I really don't know where they could go from there, honestly. But, y'know, I'll keep an open mind for now, could be good.

You know what will happen.

We will play as Eagle, a commoner who managed to escape from earth during the Reaper invasion. With the help of Aria T'loak, he manages to help his family escape to Omega, losing his sister/brother/cousin/puppy in the process depending on what class he/she is.

Then starts his rise to glory on Omega, where he earns respect for his actions in the promenade, Aria's club, and the basement. Then, an anti biotic group and a pro biotic group start a civil war, and he gets thrown into the middle of it, even if he isn't a biotic.

Will feature cameos by Neil Patrick Harris, and John Barrowman.

Not content with having to press a button to make something awesome happen, the game will feature a streamlined approach to gameplay in order to fix bugs from Mass Effect 3. Once you put the disk in the machine, you won't need to press anything else to make awesome stuff happen. The game will do it for you!
To be fair, since Dragon Age: 2 never happened, this is an interesting, fun original scenario.
What could possibly go wrong?

I hope they don't pull a half life: opposing forces/blue shift. While there would be cool stories to tell, I don't really want to play in a backdrop I just played in. Especially when the world they created has so much more to offer.

Although this is probably all hopeless dreaming on my part, what I really really want is for the new protaganist to come from a "dragon age: origins" style introduction.

Choose a gender, race/species and background for your character before tossing them into the wider world after the intro to their story, with the mass effect universe's diversity I think it would be amazing!

... that and I really want to play a turian!

Still it will be interesting to see what happens next with the series, sequel, prequel or otherwise

Hmm. I'm interested by this. I'll have to keep an eye out on info and I hope Bioware doesn't mess this up. And people should stop being so upset over the ending. It's done. Move on.

80% of the people who said they were going to boycott 3, since that's the rough number of people who bought it anyway.

The real question is: how can Bioware make a game without using one of their key tropes?

I hate to seem bias on any gaming related subject, but this sounds simply as another EA milking Bioware, just like with Dragon Age 2.

It would definitely be awesome if they set the game in a seedier background. You could start off as a two bit enforcer for whatever cartel is around then work your way up to head your own organisation. That way you can still have the TPS sections with the option add in some sort of economy/trading ala privateer.

I would love it if they reintroduced some form of vehicular combat even if its on rails. It would make sense that in that kind of setting that you have to protect convoys and shipments.

As for carrying on from the ending I think it would be pretty simple. With a bit of hand waving the reapers could be dismissed back to dark space for the control/synth options, whereas they would be dead in in the destroy continuum. The overall threat this time could be either a biotic uprising or perhaps some sort of anti biotic plague being unleashed upon the galaxy by those who have reverse engineered reaper tech. Either way there is no reason to mention the reapers or shep and the thing you would need extra to carry on from the synth ending would be a texture overlay for the glowy effect.

That way your not really facing a threat as massive as the reapers but it would still be substantial especially for a small outfit of outlaws/mercs. The story line would be smaller but would also allow for a tighter feel instead of the galaxy wide space opera that ME evolved into under Shep.

Well, for me, a proper sequel (and I mean sequel) could be Mass Effect's saving grace. The entire reason why I hated the ending of the first trilogy was because...

with the distruction of the mass relays, all intergalactic travel stopped, effectively destroying the entire Mass Effect universe.

there were other aspects of the ending that were really dumb, but for me, that was the crux of it. I haven't even looked at the "Extended ending" or w/e they called that free DLC pack because I know it did not fix this crucial issue, which, again, was the crux of my problems.

A proper sequel could fix this by reestablishing intergalactic travel somehow, allowing me to once again enjoy the game's universe.

But we'll see.
The EC clarified that, the relays werent destroyed they were damaged and eventually rebuilt, that was specifically mentioned in the control and destroy endings so it makes sense it would have applied in the synth ending too.

There was something much more personal about travelling the galaxy in pursuit of one turian as oppose to traveling around the galaxy after one very large, very flamboyant threat.

Granted the climax of 1 was huge scale I stand by my point.

I will as will many others. The third game was great, children need to stop complaining about the damned ending.
I say we keep complaining until their ears bleed. Otherwise they'll never learn.

HOWEVER, I will grant that refusing to purchase the next entry in a series due to a single negative in the face of many positives as is the case with ME3, a great game, would be rather silly and childish.

I'll probably wind up buying ME4.

I actually really like the sound of this; if they're going to continue with a series even after it's finished (some might say 'Milking It'...) then surely the best way to do so would be to essentially leave everything but the world behind? Keep the universe, lore and backstory whilst moving on to a completely different style of story and character. Think about it, you could play one of the different races, you could do so much, especially with a universe so rich and diverse as the Mass Effect world. I think this could be a step in the right direction. Or they could end up just creating a sub-par game trying to cash in on Mass Effect's success by slapping the world and label on it. I really hope it doesn't go that way though.

Please, give me something that was barely touched upon in the original trilogy.

Like playing as a conflicted Batarian Enforcer under the Batarian Hegemony's dictatorship on Khar'shan. Or as an Asari through her trails to become a Justicar.

Personally Id have kept the decisions thing going into the sequel by having the new protagonist the child of one the people shepherd inevitably slept around with or if not applicable gone the other way

It would have been interesting if the endings people chose were sent in after completion, added up and turned into the basis of the next game

If it ain't going to be Shepard, I wonder how they'll go about this... Hopefully you get the chance to be a Krogan... Or finally some sort of Krogan romance... DON'T JUDGE ME!

Not likely to buy a ME4. The interesting thing about the early Mass Effect games was the promise of our choices affecting the story. However in ME3 most of the interesting choices of the earlier games were reduced to a number. If the next games will be different i can still buy them after enough people have played them to judge if anything changed.

While each ending in 3 is pretty much the same, there are some HUGE differences between them.
What a great sentence. And what a great summary of the controversy over the ending.

I think this is a good sign. The main trilogy of Mass Effect is done with, there's no reason for some contrived excuse to drag it out. The Mass Effect universe, on the other hand, is still ripe for exploration, why not explore a different angle?

P.S: Don't call it "Mass Effect 4", it shouldn't be direct sequel.
