Hello friends,

Both of these are third person shooters and are trilogies. which one you found better of 2?

for me its easily Max Payne. Original Game is masterpiece and still best third person shooter, 2 was good although inferior while 3 was excellent game with best shooting mechanics in series.

mass effect for me is mediocre series. it mix third person shooter with RPG but the result is it become neither good shooter nor good RPG.

so my friends lets vote and discuss which trilogy series we prefer.

What an entirely stupid comparison.

Mass Effect is an rpg with 3rd person shooter elements. Mass Effect is an interesting game because of story, characters, and writing, not because of the combat.

Max Payne is all about the shooting and combat.

It's like asking what's the better game, Skyrim or Devil May Cry because they both have swords.

Also, I refuse to believe that B-Cell has the attention span to play through one Mass Effect game much less a trilogy. Hell, those games have strong female characters, which is a big no no for our friend here.

Would you care to provide us with an example of what you'd consider a 'good RPG'?

OT - I'll go with Mass Effect purely on the basis of the memes it generated.

As a huge Max Payne fan and known hater of Mass Effect I must state, the series aren't really comparable at all and Max Payne 3 is trash, it's so bad that even though I don't like Mass Effect I would choose the Mass Effect trilogy over it because the Max Payne games are better off as a pair of 2 excellent games rather than being associated with that garbage!

So come at me all Max Payne 3 fans with your terrible taste for poorly written garbage, get your Rockstar garbage out of my face and tell Dan Houser his script belongs in the trash bin ya losers!

Mas Payne isn't a trilogy, though. There is no third game. Some nobody company called Rockstar released a bootlegged "sequel" to the duology, but that in no way makes it official.

Max payne 3 is fantastic game. especially its combat is so satisfying.
Its Rockstars best game but sadly rockstar will only milked GTA5 and Red deads.

Also Max payne 3 was big step up to second game.

Well Rockstar is trash and the only good game they ever made was Lemmings!

But anyway, while mechanically the game is more satisfying than the first and second game the game is overall inferior for several reasons, chief among all to me is the story but I get the feeling you're more of a gameplay kind of guy so let's leave that point at Dan Houser can't write and is a dum dum poo poo head that didn't understand Max's character, his arc or the tone of the story, in fact he seems completely unaware that MP 1 & 2 were satires but whatever.

Another issue that makes Max Payne 3 inferior it's the level design, it's far too set-piece driven and as such horribly infuriating, where previous games were all about dropping you in the middle of an action scene and allowing you to figure out how to solve them with a high variety of weapons and had this almost puzzle-like design, which allowed for so many solutions for the same encounters, Max Payne 3 suffers because it wants you to do things a certain way, this is most obvious in the fact that you can now carry only 2 weapons (3 if you're dual wielding) greatly reducing the amount of tools at your disposal and bottlenecking the solutions, but the most infuriatingly terrible part of it are the forced sections where you go into a mandatory slow-mo moment where you have to shoot the bad guys or restart the semi-interactive cut-scene, this breaks the flow of the game completely and takes me out of the whole action sequence.

But anyway for now I'll leave it at that as I could write a whole very poorly written essay (Because I'm a terrible writer) about how much Max Payne 3 sucks, I know this because I believe I've written 3 of them, they are shameful though so I'm not digging them up, if they resurface I might have to commit seppuku to restore my family honour!

It wouldn't be a B-Cell thread if it made sense.

As people said before, these games cannot be directly compared because they serve two drastically different genre's. It's like saying which is the better film, Saving Private Ryan, or Dude Where's My Car?. The two things are unfair to compare them.

A better comparison would be Max Payne versus Doom. Or something along those lines because then at least the bang bangs all service the same gameplay purpose.

Mass Effect is unbelievably better than Max Payne. Mass Effect Andromeda is better than Max Payne and Andromeda sucked.

One was an interesting shooter that was cinematic before that term became loaded.

But Mass Effect come on now that is probably one of the greatest most realized sci fi universe ever created that adapted as it went on. Mass Effect ending was doo doo butter but the rest of the game was greatness incarnate and honestly the ending doesn't even hurt me that much. Hell I am later finding out all these paths and directions that game could go years later.

Replayed a little bit of Mass Effect 1 and holy lord that time where you either had good rpg mechanics but the gameplay was jank to shit still gets to me. But that jank can become greatness like just running over Geth in the Mako just makes me chuckle a certain way.

I am glad 3 was able to find that sweet spot after 1 and 2 just went either way on the spectrum.

Like not shitposting at all, I totally get what you mean I can ignore terrible mechanics (Which ME1 definitely has) for a well written story, it's a shame that Mass Effect really didn't resonate with me because I really can put those things aside like with New Vegas which is pure jank, though mechanically more enjoyable than Mass Effect.

Does the story get better after the first game?
Because I really didn't care for that one, there are some really good characters with some instances of really good dialogue, but IDK I just didn't like most of it.

Yeah not really comparing those 2, that's just silly.

I will say, that Max Payne 3, was a REALLY good video game adaptation of Man on Fire, the film. But it wasn't a Max Payne game, not in the spirit of the setting. But yeah, if you ever saw Man on Fire with Denzel Washington and thought, damn, I'd like to play a game that looks like this movie, with the dialogue showing up on screen in blurry and fractured images, distorted resolution to imply a near constant state of drunkeness, and a dude in South America, charged with protecting a rich dudes daughter from organized crime....then Max Payne 3 is the game for you.

Only played Max Payne 1 and the resource mining from Mass Effect 2 was my favorite part of the entire franchise (not being facetious; I really enjoyed it with the iconic ME map music; quite relaxing,) so as the self-appointed expert on this very important, culturally-defining, completely nonsensical comparison, I vote for Dark Souls. Wait, what were we talking about again?

they both are third person shooters first and foremost and part of trilogies. they are comparible.
