and those 5 hours are 5 epic hours and more intense than 50 hours of boring RPG games.
beside Mass effect is third person shooter with dialogue system. Mass effect 2 doesnot even have inventory.

they are more of gears of war clones.

Now you're just making stuff up. There's really nothing intense about Max Payne. I play those games to relax.

Also, it's pretty obvious that Mass Effect is another one of those series that you never really played, so it would be really awesome if you'd stop talking out of your ass and focus only on games that you did play. You're not doing very well with those either, but it would still be an improvement over this shitshow.

I don't even have to look at the OP to know I'm looking at a B-Cell thread, because nobody else on this forum would conceive of the idea to do a like for like comparison between two series with such radically different visions as Max Payne and Mass Effect. One, a series of action oriented third person shooters which places combat first and foremost, and the other a series of RPGs which uses third person shooting as the almost-token gameplay sections between the story sections where the creator's interests clearly lay. Mass Effect 3's gameplay is far better than the other two in the series, but I still like Mass Effect 2 more because the story is more involving,
Funny thing is I'll take ME3 combat over MP3 combat any day; I played a ton of ME3 multiplayer.

You don't know what RPGs are then. You don't need experience, levels, stats, inventories for a game to be an RPG. Marcus Fenix (can't even spell Phoenix right...) is a static character whereas Commander Shepard is molded through player decisions.

I like how we are mostly picking ME as the better series, despite the complaints of ME3 ending, many of which I learnt on this very forum.

It's because the last 5% of ME3 is trash.

Basically the entirety of Max Payne 3 is trash.

Looking back the response was extra as hell and absolutely embarassing like great crime against humanity happened. No one came out looking good in that scenario. And since then I noticed it repeats all the damn time. No one is free of sin we are all just wallowing in the muck.

There seems to be a lot of hate for MP3. I didn't actually mind it, though it did seem entirely unnecessary and might as well not have been a Max Payne game really. Like the main character could've been Captain Price for all I cared. Or a standalone game about some ex-cop/soldier. I kinda remember the overall plot being really dumb but was happy to just shoot people.

For me it's because I actually only played Max Payne 1 & 2 because I was hyped for the 3rd one, and played them all back to back, personally I was blown away by 1 & 2 but man did I have to force myself to play 3, it lost all of the charm the previous games had, and it feels like really smug like despite the fact that it's trash it thinks it's profound, while the previous games are perfectly aware they're kinda schlocky, trashy and clichéd but despite that have a lot of heart and while not super deep they do have enough depth so that you can feel there's something beneath the surface, like you can feel the passion from the developers radiating throughout the games, besides to me it's absolutely amazing how an amateur writer like Sam Lake with pretty much no experience at the time was able to do a much better job than 3 professional writers, like I've been throwing all the shade to Dan Houser since he was the lead but it actually has 3 credited writers, all of them professionals, but where this amateur with close to no experience to whom English isn't even his first language was able to write these simultaneously dark, gritty, funny, insightful and playful stories and scripts by himself, and between 3 professionals all they can do is copy the style of a movie and make something as bland as cardboard, don't get me wrong the originals steal a lot from movies they like, primarily Hard Boiled and like every Noire movie ever but they certainly can't be described as bland.

So yeah, for me it's that, I actually got into Max Payne because of the 3rd game but playing them back to back only illustrated what a huge disappointment it was, which BTW Sam Lake did end up becoming a professional and I don't want to sound like too much of a kiss ass since not everything he writes is gold, with like Quantum Break being a prime example but he's definitely one of better video-game writers around with Alan Wake having a pretty solid story and script and Control being absolutely fantastic.

Also, I just like shitposting.

I played mass effect 2 for hour before i quit it. didnot liked wall cover based combat. its a wallcover shooter with RPG elements and having health regen. while max payne even 3 use painkiller system.

Health doesn’t regenerate in Mass Effect 2 completely. Usually only the active bar regenerates to full. Shielda/Barrier/Armour I think replenish in full. You can upgrade the Unity power and shields to replenish health/better revive squadmates and speed up shields/barrier regen.

Mass Effect 2 was the more action orientated of the first two games - it was actually a point of contention that talents had been severely streamlined and weapon mods removed in place of flat upgrades. But even so if you only played for an hour, that’s barely getting off Lazerus base, not even your first recruit is gotten within the first hour of gameplay. You cheated yourself my lad, in a big way.

I remember a thread on Reddit that had a guy complaining that Need for Speed Heat sucked and it was a "shit game." His total play time? 10 minutes. From what I remember, that's only enough time to get through the scripted intro where you get your end game super car taken from you, watch some cutscenes, make your avatar, and choose your starting car. I think the dude just got pissy that it didn't spoon feed him a beast of a car from the get-go.

I can understand picking up a game the first time and not really jiving with it right away. But an hour, or even 10 minutes, is simply a piss poor amount of time to give a game that isn't more complex than, say... a basic platformer like Mario. ESPECIALLY a Sci-Fi RPG as big as Mass Effect

That's like playing 2 hours of Max Payne 3 and complaining it's 90% cutscenes. In reality the game is only 70% cutscenes.

There are two Max Payne games.

Max Payne 3 is a Max Payne game in name only.

Mass Effect 3 has a stupid ending and a stupid villian, but the game itself it pretty solid. Also, it has the Citadel DLC, which more then makes up for the ending being stupid.

Q.E.D. Mass Effect wins by default.

I would say Max Payne 1 & 2 are more iconic for me -- they were, for their time, good games, and I don't think there was much out there at the time that was similar.

I enjoyed ME as well, though not enough to get upset about the ending. Am I right in recalling that the combat in ME is just ludicrously easy?

They still are. At least Max Payne 2, which is a timeless classic.

But they're not Mass Effect kind of good. Mass Effect is an incredible trilogy, ending notwithstanding.

And hell, if you play on PC there’s the Happy Ending Mod which fixes those two problems.

But the games are different on every level: Mass Effect is an epic sci-fi rpg, Max Payne - the second especially - are linear, noir influenced (with a little John Woo for flavour) two-fisted pulp fiction.

That's the thing... This thread's purpose isn't meant to compare two franchises against each other. It's meant to be a thread of "I love this one series and hate the other, so the other is shit and I disagree with everyone who says anything otherwise." They aren't even remotely comparable. The actual purpose of the thread is thinly veiled at best

I'm ashamed to admit, I was fuckin' livid. I felt like EA/Bioware wasted my time with the entire trilogy. But over time I got over it and I learned how to appreciate it for what it is despite that one flaw that seemed so fatal at the time. I was so out of my mind I was really rooting for the Indoctrination Theory, despite being fully aware that there's no way that Bioware could think of something like that.
