This is just crazy. People tend to fly off the handle when presented with anything that might be a danger to children. Overreactions cause so many problems these days, and stories like this show that they are not slowing down.

Just goes to show that superhero comics are already dead since these characters are being associated with movies.

The premise "targetting children with advertisements is bad" is a good one.

It's just too bad they choose to get their message out in such a moronic way. Like how PETA is run by the fur industry to make animal rights activists look like nutters. ;)

Also, I find superheroes bland and tedious.

Shit movies, non-the-less.

(Note that they're shit movies I enjoyed. Except Wolverine:Origins)

You know, my 4 year old cousin could tell you anything you ever wanted to know about Spider-Man and has toys of pretty much any villain to ever be in Spider-Man.

People need to calm down about this sort of stuff...

....

....I don't think they're giving children enough credit. When I was a little boy I played with action figures and you don't see me going into fits of rage. I think I turned out pretty good actually...

Obviously this is the dumbest thing since sliced houses. But it does remind me of my own reaction to seeing this in the toy aisle.
[/spoiler]
Not that I was outraged or anything, just... thoroughly discombobulated. Spidey and Cap I can see, but Frank Castle for the under-5 crowd?

"It's clobberin time!" Apparently, the CCFC thinks this will send pre-schoolers into a violent rage..."

I have lost faith in humanity....

Understandable, I mean look at the green monster... he conveys a completely wrong image of muscled men! And he's dressed indecently too!
And Captain America is glorifying the US. Where is Captain Canada? Where are Captain Sweden and Captain France?

Never heard of these people before, but they need to crawl off in a corner and die.

Exactly what do their own kids do for fun? Push a hoop down a road with a stick?
No no, they might try to take that stick and push something other then a hoop. Then what? Kids will be poking and pushing other kids in violent outbursts.

Kids are to sit there staring at leaves until dinner, leaves are fun right? Then after dinner they get an hour of TV, consisting only of the leaf channel, before bed.

OT: If there's anything I like about these people... I can't find it. People like this just hate culture; give them a nation of their own and they'll pain it white, square buildings with rounded corners, and kids who spend all day in a pre-school (probably with a church thrown in there somewhere).

By the way, Spongebob squarepants works at a fast food place and loves it so much he'd do it for zero pay. Clearly, kids are being conditioned to want to work in fast food for next to nothing and wear suspenders. Hey, if they're allowed to make ridiculous claims why can't I?

Also, kids who watch him can never drive because he can't; clearly this makes perfect sense right?

I love Sarcasm, it get's the point across and makes it fun at the same time.

And if it's fun there must be a group protesting it, somewhere.

The CCFC seems to think that the toys will get children addicted to "violent PG-13" movies. I'm not joking.

The CCFC is referring to the Thing's action figure, which says: "It's clobberin time!" Apparently, the CCFC thinks this will send pre-schoolers into a violent rage. And a "horrifying spectacle of a man on fire?" Seriously?

The Happy Meal promotion also features a Spider-Man figure that terrifyingly sticks to walls with suction cups, the Silver Surfer unimaginably standing on a surfboard, and Captain America throwing his shield to disgustingly protect innocent people. How awful can McDonald's get?

"If clobberin' time is McDonald's idea of family fun, it's time to steer clear of the Golden Arches," the CCFC says. What dimensional portal did these people just emerge from? Hasn't McDonald's been giving away action figures for decades? Can't the organization understand that the toys are just fun for kids to play with?

Though I don't agree with activists and politicians that campaign against videogame violence, I can almost understand where they're coming from. These action figures are so innocent, I feel like the CCFC has got to be joking. This would be like Jack Thompson saying that Carnival Games [http://www.amazon.com/Carnival-Games-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B000QD7BBM/ref=pd_ts_vg_34?ie=UTF8&s=videogames] was going to cause World War III. I'm trying to see a valid point in here somewhere, but I don't.
Wow, Tom, you really laid down the law on those guys. I'm trying not to be sarcastic, by the way.

I realise that the CCFC don't have an argument as informed as we, the Escapists, do - but let's be a little bit more pro-active now, shall we?

I've read so many articles - that all raise valid points - in the defence of video games, but very rarely have I ever found articles that show how close anybody is to stopping these kind of ill-informed attacks on video games.

If there's one issue with The Escapist's journalism, it's that there's not a lot of middle-ground. It's very often someone's opinion, then the opinion of the writer of the news-piece. Where's the middle-ground?

I realise how news-based businesses work, but I've always considered The Escapist to be comprised of quite respectable people.

I hope you don't disregard this comment.

Even if there is no user-related-discussion to be gained from this, there is constructive criticism in it.

Maybe it's relevant to the times or merely relative to one solitary gamer, but it's not out of anger or depression. I've just been thinking for a while what it is that annoys me about The Escapist's journalism, of late, and I think I've found it.

More viewpoints! More quotes! I love The Escapist's opinion - it nearly always brings a valid point to the discussion - but there must be more! There's never just white and black - or good and bad - there are shades of grey. I'd love to know more.
