For people who think The Onion made this up, search CCFC and go to their homepage. These people are really serious...

HERBIE nods his evil, robot head approvingly.

Seriously, people like this haven't changed their tune in thirty years.

All of these 'politically correct' special interest groups need to die (horribly) in a fire. So now you can't even give away superhero toys in the U.S. without someone bitching and whining about it.

*Gasp*

I suppose all of my violent childhood toys spurred me to make that violent statement.

Seriously though...

Does anyone remember when kids toys were just cool, and nobody was peering over our parents' shoulders and saying, "You shouldn't buy that for your child because it will make them kill (insert gender/race/religion here)."

The CCFC are idiots, plain and simple! All they want is attention.
This.
Also here's what I think:
Oh no. They're outlawing stuff children love to talk and think about. Superheroes. They aren't exactly going to become VIOLENT MASS MURDERERS from looking at people clearly doing dangerous shit. It'd be as dumb as adding the Don't Try This at Home thing to the old Power Ranger series.
Not that I agree with these idiots, but they toys do look like they are really trying to promote mental deficiency as a good thing. Honestly, they look terrible.
But uhm why are you complaining? Children and Teens like superheroes (Although teens also like Sex Drugs and Booze) and that kind of crap. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to say stop buying Mario that game is SO violent.

This has to be one of the single stupidest assessment of commercialism I have ever seen. Almost all the little kids (and this is including myself) love batman, or spiderman, or hulk, or iron man, or green lantern, or superman (yeah I included DC, but thats cause they have these kinds of specials too) and some adults want to take away the play things that allow us to have fun while our parents shop? Those BASTARDS. Although I could understand if they were complaining about how crappy and cheap the toys are now... I miss the higher quality "almost could be from the store" feel of the old Mcdonalds toys... and even though the movies are pg-13 parents are taking their kids to see them, because they are AWESOME movies, and give kids some sort of moral compass for their futures... yknow as well as parental influence...

I just realized I hate almost all organizations who are referred to in their acronym name a-la PETA

Wow.. I thought the Government couldn't get any dumber. Guess they showed me. I thought Superheroes were good guys. The CCFC saying that these toys that INCLUDE CAPTAIN AMERICA as bad for children is as dumb as Star Wars Holiday Special..
It's an NGO. Don't blame the government unless you are sure what you're talking about.
A non-governmental organization (NGO) is a legally constituted organization created by natural or legal persons that operates independently from any government. In the cases in which NGOs are funded totally or partially by governments, the NGO maintains its non-governmental status by excluding government representatives from membership in the organization. The term is usually applied only to organizations that pursue some wider social aim that has political aspects, but that are not overtly political organizations such as political parties. Unlike the term "intergovernmental organization", the term "non-governmental organization" has no generally agreed legal definition. In many jurisdictions, these types of organization are called "civil society organizations" or referred to by other names.

I'd put money on that they get money from the Gov.

That doesn't mean that they are speaking for the government. Even conservative radio stations receive money from the government. Please, don't be a bigot and learn the difference between subsidies and sponsorships.

Surely the ploy of using toys to manipulate children to demand their parents bring them to eat fatty, non-nutritional foods is more a cause of outrage than a few plastic toys...but then again I have children's best interests at heart, not an insane puritanical streak.
It seems to me that your post hints at the very same totalitarian streak that motivates this ridiculous organization. The difference being that you think you have a better angle. At no point in the article did I read any religious message from the CCFC. You read that into it, because you detest religion, and imagine that it is at the heart of censorship you supposedly hate. I'd bet you at 10 to 1 odds, that this organization is secular. Their name implies a leftist bent, not a religious one. I'm personally not religious, but I always get a kick out of watching big government leftists wail and gnash their teeth every time they think somebody BESIDES them, is trying to censor people. Perhaps you've forgotten the Parents Music Resource Center, or the Fairness Doctrine, the latter of which even now many of the current fascists on the left would like to resurrect?

I suppose I may have read more into your post than is there, but I think I've managed to get a pretty good bead on where you're coming from your first line.
HA! It was sarcasm. I just found them having issues with particular toys, rather than toys in general. I felt that being exposed to low-level violence was a lesser evil that the food itself and why the toys are packaged this way.

Also I didn't mean puritanical in a religious sense, I merely meant it to describe a view of any facetious argument that is designed to "protect" children from things that would do them no harm. Hence my use of the word "streak", I am perfectly aware that the left has as many (if not more) nannying ideas and "protective measures" like this one. But as I say, it was intended to read as sarcasm. But my use of the word "puritanical" was probably misleading.

And as for the kids? Let 'em eat.

I disagree with most of you I don't think they're going far enough, don't just ban superhero toys ban all toys! Ban TV, DVDs, Movies, Video games, Unhealthy food, History, Friends!!! We must all be great parents and lock our children up in cages and feed them healthy food until they are 18 and can make their own decisions!

Wait but then they can still do bad! Let us be even greater parents and protect our children from life itself by not having children!

While all the bad parents can go around letting their children live, watch tv, let their child eat junk food in moderation, play with toys and teaching their kids actual values! Urgh, they disgust me!

Never heard of these people before, but they need to crawl off in a corner and die.

Exactly what do their own kids do for fun? Push a hoop down a road with a stick? I can only assume that since most toys are commercialized in some way or another, that they're not allowed to have any, and that is going to breed a rather disturbed adult. An adult that never had a childhood because their friend Timmy or Sally had a GIJoe or a Barbie and their parents didn't want their children to be corrupted by the blatant commercialism that made the toys popular.
a hoop down a road with a stick sounds pretty fun!!!!

I will agree that getting these toys are addicting, I remember eating nothing but McDonalds for a week straight as a ten year old just so I could get the entire Inspector Gadget collection.

But seriously, this is just asinine. What about the candy companies, or soda companies or *insert random thing that is bad for our youth* company that uses the super hero fad to promote their product.

"A so-called happy meal at McDonald's features the horrifying spectacle of a man on fire and a menacing figure that explicitly spurs them to violence."

You can pussify the new generation all you want, but don't complain when we see a generation of grown men who love to pick flowers and wouldn't even think of lifting a finger against a creature of nature, or a mugger who is about to rob them and rape their girlfriend... MAN UP AND GET RID OF YOUR VAGINAS! (if you are a woman you can keep it)

Well, I don't think you all realise just how serious this is.

If children begin paying attention to Spider-Man, they may learn to... talk back!

Stupid moral guardians.

Children should be made blind and deaf at birth, then lobotomized so that they can't perceive of something violent in the world.

That way we can all enjoy our vile corrupting influences while children will shut the fuck up and wont turn into murderous thugs.

Everybody wins.

I never liked McDonalds. I would actually like that it disappears. But their excuse to remove them is kinda pointless. I would have a lot more reasons to retire those games...
Why would you like it to disappear? Nobody forces you to eat there right? I assume you live in the US, and if so, you must realize that you live in a free society. Where people are free to make their own choices (this is where it gets dicey) EVEN WHEN YOU DISAGREE WITH THOSE CHOICES.
Sure, but something is freedom and something else is animal cruelty, bad quality of the food and health diseases.
