As I recall, the original Ghostbusters were more about being New Yorkers than being men. If the new cast can keep that up, rather than focusing on women's problems, then it might be something I'd watch. Otherwise, maybe I'm not the target demographic, and I'm fine with that. Women need more role models, and maybe some of them will be Ghostbusters now.

EDIT: Oh no. Fuck no. There's going to be a scene where they're looking at the old uniforms, and maybe the fat one will try one on, but they're going to be like "Nope, they're ugly", and go on a shopping montage. Argh it's going to happen, and it will cause so much rage.

True, it might be something to watch, but given how movies are made these days, I doubt it will happen. The fact that they've gone for an entirely female cast suggests that it's going to have a lot of female centric humor. And if that Ghostbuster + Female Symbol logo is official, it's even more obvious that they are pushing the Girl Power angle. I think the better thing to do would be to have it be mixed genders. Have some women and some men, but then you run into the typical movie trope of the lead characters being obligated to hook up, and not just be coworkers or friends. So yeah, all sausage or no sausage cast it must be.

Yes women need role models. But can't we find better role models for them other than actresses in bad movie remakes, that will pander to the female audience for no reason other than to get the female movie dollar? I loved the original Ghostbusters, and hell I loved Ghostbusters 2, but I didn't for one second, consider any of those actors or characters to be role models. And it kind of freaks me out to think that young girls might do that with movie characters in a bad comedy remake today.

No, no, no, no...

This whole concept is stupid. If there is a movie whose reboot I will condemn, my personal version of Bob's Robocop fiasco, is Ghostbusters. I don't like that their response to diversity is a gender bender of the original cast, I don't like that their idea of the opposite of them include McCarthy (I don't like her brand of humor), and I don't like that they even feel like they have to do this.

Could work, but the casting is a bit crappy. There are better actresses that would be stronger in the roles with established comedic careers, much like the original cast. While I have no proof to support this, it would seems somewhat possible that stronger actresses might have avoided the casting call, as the concept of the all female cast was unappealing to them and where they are in their careers.

The fact that they jumped to an all female cast is partly where I start to struggle with the concept. It honestly feels like it going to be forced, and that leads to shitty entertainment. Diversity is a natural part of the human experience, and should come naturally in our entertainment, but like other projects, this looks like it will be forced.

I think several people above me posted that the idea of even doing a reboot is a bad one, and I agree with this completely. Some stories need to be told once and never tried again.

I'm kinda irked about people complaining about it being an all-lady lineup. Why not? All-dude lineups aren't exactly rare.

Yeah it's totally because of SJW like thinking. It's not like having an all white cast with one black person has been a thing that's been done in movies now for decades long before the "SJW" craze even started :/.

Anyway back to the positives I'm pleasently surprised by this list. The only thing I was worried about is if they were going to go with the "babes with guns" route, but this looks like a well rounded cast of people.

Same as there was no reason to change Rue into a black girl in the Hunger Games movie, just cause she was black in the book.

Rue is black in the books and black in the movie...so what exactly was the change here?

(Also, notice how having a black character must only be done for PC reasons, not because they were the best available or something)

This is literally the problem with people crying PC. There is a very real chance that for ONCE they actually reviewed actors of various ethnic groups and sex equally and decided that an actor that wasn't white was best for the role. But of course the assumption is that they did it because "SJW's". No one has any proof that they did it for diversity reasons. They just assume it because we are so used to seeing white actors do practically every major role in major movies 90% of the time that CLEARLY the only reason a non white actor is in a major role is because they are either in a Tyler Perry/Black cinema movie or Hollywood is "pushing" an agenda.

The problem why this is considered gimmicky is that they always referred to this as: the new ghostbusters, and they are girls now. Like that justified the reboot because it was a "fresh" take on it. So, the reason for the choice of a black woman is not because of diversity, it is because Ernie Hudson was in the original.
This is not really diversity, it is just a gender bender.

I still remember going to see the original as a kid, and while I welcome its getting made, the cast kind of has me scratching my head and asking, why not go with a male and female cast, than this all female quartet? It totally smells of trying to make Ghost busters appeal to an audience its not really for.

Its a supernatural action comedy that didn't need to be mired in gender politics. Wouldn't a more mixed cast of male and female allow for a wider legion of viewers to watch and enjoy it? On top of that, fast forward and say this new GB flick does well, won't an animated series follow as well as merchandise, that are pushed at kids? All female merchandise...?

Had they chosen at least two male actors, I'd be more excited for it. Now not so much, but maybe they can prove me wrong. We'll soon see if this quartet can carry the action, as well as they might the comedy.

I kind of agree with you here. I mean, if the story is going to have no connection to 1 or 2 anyway, then why bother making it a Ghostbusters movie? You may as well just grab "sci-fi", "all female", "action-comedy" and go an make your own new movie from scratch, just throw on an "inspired by" at the end. Its not like they're gaining much by attaching it to a fairly old, reasonably worn out IP like this - and they already proved female foursome as a main cast can generally work so they shouldn't be depending on that anyway.

I think it would be one thing if they were doing another Alien/Predator/Resident Evil movie, where the antagonists are iconic and tied directly to those names or even another Dark City, where the setting is central to the plot, but can be used to carry another wholly unrelated story.

Ghostbusters was unique because it had ghosts, engaging likeable characters, and a fairly novel premise. The setting was New York (which will never be interesting again), the premise and antagonists are no longer novel, and the characters won't be in this movie because we are getting new ones. The new ones may be just as good as the old, but you don't need to name your movie Ghostbusters to get good characters.

Ghost Busters is one of those Nerd/Geek culture films/franchises I never got into.

Back to the Future, Doctor Who, Ghost Busters, etc. Just not a fan. I mean, I guess being progressive is good. It's just, cliche is cliche. As others have already pointed out what the cliche's are, it just kinda makes me scratch my head. If having cliches represented by both genders is that important, go for it.
