Hope its funny.

I'll reserve judgment until I've actually seen an episode.

But I wish you the best of luck.
I love people judging from a few clips. Id rather reserve judgement until I've seen an actually episode than end up shooting myself in the foot.
Essentially what this ninja said.

You know I really don't see the similarities between this and VGCats.
I'm with the Kraken of the Internets.

What? They're dogs.. VGcats are cats... they both contain the word "GAMES" in their titles... look out!!

anyway, yeah, not many similarities other than that.... you know, unless this show decides to start updating once per year.

I just meant the whole Game Dogs - Video Game Cats...

Though your right this doesn't seam to be the same 'making jokes from games' stuff.

I probably shouldn't do this, since it seems that the furry fans are the only ones with positive things to say about this trailer, but Game Dogs is not about people who dress up like animals.

If I've just decimated our potential audience for this show, then I'll just have to live with that. Because it's just not - just really, totally not - about furries.

They're dogs. Who make games. They are not furries. Seriously.

Wow. That was painfully unfunny and uninteresting. If they wanted to get people on their side for this, they could have at least made a trailer that shows something that might make people genuinely want to watch it.

From the trailer, I can gather that they're dogs... and they're just as boring as my actual coworkers are, if not more so. I could probably just go to work and probably hear the exact same dialogue (although without the added 'bonus' of the inevitable furry 34 that is sure to come).

This is true, however they are dogs that talk (somewhat) like humans, so they are anthropomorphised, which, while not furry in the strict sense, is definitely edging towards that territory, both visually and ideologically. "Furries" is definitely the first thing I thought of when I saw the ad. Arguably, that says more about me and my level of "internet cultural education" than it does about the cartoon itself, however I don't think I'm alone here, and that most people who visit this board are young and therefore quite net-culture savvy, so they would probably think "furries" too. Mind you, if someone wants to do that stuff it's none of my business really, I'm not vehemently against furries or anything, I just tend to notice "furry signifiers", because it's something that occasionally populates internet culture.

It's also my belief that The Escapist might be experiencing a slight backlash against this new content because of the way it's being advertised at the moment. Being forced to see an ad flash up every time you click a link or update a page on the site is naturally going to cause resentment in anyone who likes to play with this site for more than a few minutes at a time. I understand that advertising is very important, and you do want people to know that the new content is there and view it, however the wrong type of advertising can be known to cause a backlash against the product in question, and I feel that the near-subliminal ads that come up currently are definitely tip-toeing across that line. This might be one reason why you're getting so many negative comments.

I don't know if I'll like this show, the video preview certainly isn't impressive just because the humour in it doesn't grab me, but I'll give it a go when it comes out anyway. It might surprise me so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt until an episode airs, because previews can be deceptive.

VGCats rip-off much? I didn't even need to see the trailer to know that THIS was a pathetic idea. Come on Jon, stick to AL. :(

Jon Etheridge, I have some faith in your work, so I'll watch the first couple.
But the trailer? Not promising in the least.

I don't get why everyone's so pissed off at the fact that the show's starring dogs. Humans, dogs, pineapples... I don't care what it is as long as it's good.

OT:

This.

Even if I won't like the show (which I doubt) I'm gonna continue watching to hear his voice :p Nothing's sexier than a voice with high recognition value.

Did You folks at the escapist have a pool to see if this sort of reaction was coming? heh.
Actually, yes. Not a pool - but we certainly aren't stupid. And we all have pretty good memories. The Escapist has been around for awhile now. It's gone through significant changes since the beginning.

Once upon a time our site revolved entirely around the Weekly Issue. It was highly designed, took many hours to produce and publish and our small but loyal audience loved it. Then, because we felt we had reached a plateau, we evolved the site to include other forms of content. Our user-base went native and we couldn't have - at the time - predicted the overwhelming negative feedback we got. Nevertheless our user base increased tremendously.

After awhile we evolved the site again - this time to include more robust forums, many more kinds of content and even video! Again, the negative feedback was overwhelming among our established users. Despite this we went on to sign ZP, win a couple of Webby Awards and, again, our community expanded dramatically.

I'm not sure if you see the pattern here, but trust that we are well aware of it. Do we always make the right decisions? Of course not. No person, collective or company does all the time. But are we aware that our new ideas cause unjustified surges of anger and rage amongst our established users almost every time we implement them? Yes. Painfully so.

Unfortunately on the web, in general, the most vocal part of the community is the part that is angry or upset. So - did we expect a long thread of people telling us to fuck off, that we are stupid, that we have no skills or talent. Perhaps a bunch of furries pausing from unbridled yiffing in the office only to paste more garbage onto the site you've come to feel to strongly about? Yes. We always expect it. But we always hope for a bit more from you too.

-J (Again. My views are my own. So lynch only me.)

I'm sorry, I have an automatic disliking of a setup to anything in which the phrase "Hilarity Ensues" can be added onto without breaking the flow. Sorry.

I believe that you've highlighted a big, important problem here.

It's a damn shame that so many users are naturally resistant to any change at all, and thus whine whenever there's new content. It means that if that content genuinely IS crap, then the reaction is the same as if the content is a really genuinely good idea. What this means is that you guys might have a hard time telling the difference between complaints with actual validity and badly-thought-out whining. You just expect negative feedback for everything, so when you inevitably get it you just go "oh, here comes our usual serve of negative feedback for something new - ignore". It's the old "cry wolf" syndrome. When the (anthropomorphised) wolf finally does knock on the door, no-one believes the cries for help...

I do hope the new series is good. I have little hope to be truthful, but I pledge to keep an open mind. Given that it always takes these things a while to hit their stride, I'll give it four episodes before I judge.

*made an account just to comment...be grateful*

The trailer really didn't look that promising, but I'm still willing to give this show a shot. I remember feeling the same way for "Unskippable" and "Apocalypse Lane", but now if I miss the most recent episodes of either, shit hits the fan. I look forward to seeing where you guys are going to take this.

And as for the whole "Furry" thing, do you people know how hard drawing a human face? Real pain in the arse.

Again, I really don't see the resemblance between this and VGCats. This seems a lot more like Code Monkeys.

Only with dogs.
